  • The Kiwi bird is very unique in the sense it cannot fly and has whiskers unlike normal birds, making scientists question its initial origin.

"10 years ago, researchers from the department of conservation developed a rescue strategy that might actually work. They took an old warehouse, filled it with dirt and plants (and loads of worms and other food insects) and a few water sources with proper lighting set to simulate day and night; then put a bunch of Kiwi into it before closing the door so that they could live in a non-hostile environment were all of their needs were met, allowing them to multiply and be cycled back out into the wild to bolster their numbers..." is how this should have went.

@@jessewru6425 That would be keeping them in captivity, similar to domestic farm animals. Not only would it deprive the environment of the purpose they serve, spreading seeds, eating bugs, and feeding predators, it would quickly result in a population of kiwis who have lost the natural ability to survive in the wild. Their immune systems, their instincts, and even crucial evolutionary adaptations will be hindered, and that's IF the species even accepts captivity at all. Many times such conservation efforts have been made for other species, only to result in the animals dying of stress bc their exact environmental needs were not being met.
It's a VERY tricky and delicate thing to interfere at all with wild animals. These kiwis are actually pretty easy, since they hatch fully capable of independence. For most birds, conservationists have to go to great lengths to avoid "contaminating" them both literally and figuratively, by masking their scents and using hand puppets made to look like adult birds to feed and interact with them until they're able to be released.
And for kiwis in particular, I've heard they're remarkably territorial and generally solitary, which means that their enclosure would either have to be massive, or have rooms for each one, meaning the enclosures would need to be opened to allow for breeding, but having been isolated up until then, they could easily just get into nasty, dangerous fights. And without any way for natural selection to ensure the most successful genes get passed down, hereditary defects and illnesses would become a significant issue quite quickly. It's just not a sustainable model, I'm afraid.

God knows everything and he has a plan for everyone so humans causing extinction might be part of the whole plan. FYI I’m not saying we should let them and other animals go extinct I’m just trying to look at the situation from every side and curious to see what others think about it whether good or bad.
