Choose whatever type of shed or storage house is right for you. Pick from fancy ones or more utilitarian designs.
For contrast: My 28x30 shop was 16.5K (2014 money) for the shell, with two 10' wide garage doors. Work was done by a local contractor who specializes in garages and outbuildings. Price included the concrete work, plus a 24x12 pad in front of the doors. Think the electrical was about $2500 (subbed out). Finished the inside myself, don't remember exactly how much that cost because it was spread out over several months. Maybe a grand or $1200 for insulation, drywall and paint.
We started our 24X30 pre-COVID, but the price of lumber tripled after. What started out at $25000.00 ended up at $28000.00 unfinished. That's including an 18ft garage door and wired. Hopefully insulation and finished in the next couple years.
I built a tent garage on pallets with a floor on top of the pallets, then I bolted the tent garage to the pallets. I put a tarp under the floor to keep moisture away from the plywood and away from my under car.
Congrat you did it by yourself , diy project are fun.... however you said its rather used as a workshop for your car, then a metal workbench is a must. (welding and other things) Also drywall is going to mold in this environment..... bad choice in a personal working shop.... I'm building a 24x34 garage by myslef, two garage doors on the 34' wall is giving me a lot of space for two trucks , for workbench and other things.... one door have a lift.... Anyway, you did it by yourself and it was your first one,, so still did a good job......
Thats a nice size. I plan to put up the largest and highest that our local zoning allows. Scissor trusses will allow me to get the min 12ft height for the car lift without going up too high with exterior elevation. I think 2 doors make better sense than a single huge 16ft door. Im sure my only regret will be that I didnt build it 20 years ago. Imo, a nice garage is more important that a nice house🙂
Thanks for posting this, we are moving and also will need to build a better garage. I did not realize that Menards had these kits. I'll check into them for sure.
Good video. That’s the exact size I’m looking to have built too. And yes, when I do I’ll also wait for 11% off at Menards as well. Nice to have a good visual of that size.
Ima commercial electrician. That was like a $200 lighting package...and your panel looks like your just using 3 20amp breakers, I would have ran a 240v plug for a compressor, and at least 3 for plugs. One for lighting, and one for the opener.
I've been wanting to build a 2 car garage myself. I live in Az. not cold here, just the opposite so insulation is still needed with A/C. I was wondering about help. Fortunately, I've got a couple of co-worker from my job. Hard to imagine no instructions, diagrams or plans only materials. Good video, very informative. Thanks !
Nice garage pal..good job! Hind sight is always 20-20..I made the same mistake when I built my last one. Wall hight I mean, so I feel your pain! 🙄 As you said..next time! Good luck with it!!😁✌
When you heat a garage in the winter without ceiling insulation you are creating a rain cloud in your attic. It won't be long before you start to see damage to the drywall. Be a shame to screw up a nice new garage that way.
Paul Fontes … If the attic is vented there should be no moisture issue for the moment. I also saw no signs of a heating system, which I suspect may be in the future, along with adding insulation. Would be a dumb move to add heat without insulation, which should be easy with an open attic. Hopefully he thought ahead and installed some 6 mill poly behind the ceiling sheetrock.
Great job, I wish that you would have shown progress overtime video. I too have a garage of similar size that I built myself. I hope to see your next built.
Concrete here would be $7000 minimum for that size. This is in PNW. Steel building kit is $10,000 for that size concrete plans are about $1500 here + permits. So to say this was only $13,000 makes me wonder what he didn’t get
Was is 48” deep or deeper up North from Omaha? Then 8” X 16” footings or more? Just curious as I found it strange to see block used instead of poured concrete in forms. South, poured concrete was used, no blocks. Is their a concrete block Mafia? Interesting pre-Wu-Flu pricing.
You can hang it either way look at the drywall associations pamphlet at Menards. Nothing wrong with doing vertical most drywallers do it perpendicular but I think that's just out of habit. I did my living room vertical due to the walls being 8' 6" ish tall so I cut 10 footers down & went vertical to avoid two large horizontal seams
I did an addition to my garage. 18x40. Framing materials were 8k. Concrete 4k. Roofing materials 2k. Siding 2k. Wiring and lights 2k. No effing way your garage was complete at 7k
lemans 350 the building inspector didn’t require plans because it was a menards kit and he knew it was engineered correctly. He did do multiple inspections to make sure it was done right.
Built a 24x36 three car 2 story in 2004 for under $20k all in. Wife’s car, kid’s car, X3 maverick & the rest of our stuff have it full. Considering a 24x30 x10 - tube frame vs pole barn vs framed this coming fall. I don’t have a problem with doing anything, except sheet rock work, not hanging or finishing, I’ll pay someone else.
Nice job man! I"m inspired to build a detached garage of my own in the spring. Did you do your own concrete pour and finish work as well? Looks really clean.
Nice shop although the dimensions are probably less than ideal in that it would be nice to have it deep enough that you could fit two cars front-to-back. Every time I think about how big of a shop I need for all the things I want to be able to do it keeps on getting bigger and bigger.....😂
Bro how did you do the floor? Could you show how you did that? I am curious - would like to buy kit for CT, I know they don't service the area but still planning to get this for CT. Thanks
Looking to build soon as well. Trying to get estimates on the concrete though. Looks like your concrete turned out nice. Thanks for the pricing estimates.
Nice! Good job DIY. I got lucky when i bought my house it had a 32x40 shop but it’s not insulated, (yet). Is this a pole barn or wall studs? . Like your car. I have a 2013 2SS/RS
That’s a good size! I’m building a 30x40 in a few months at my new place. This video was wall studs I couldn’t do pole barn in the neighborhood. Next one will be pole barn though
Don’t let this distract you from the fact that Hector is going to be running three Honda civics with spoon engines, and on top of that, he just went into Harry’s and bought three t66 turbos with nos, and a motec exhaust system!
He said 7000 for just the shell of the garage including the door. But it was 13000 with the concrete and drywall and lights.
Thank you hero
Thanks for the summary.
You did gods work
Pre covid pricing....lol
he said 13000 doesnt include lights and electrical. He did it all himself because he is an electrician by trade

Thanks for your video effort. Thanks for the 12 foot suggestion. the lift would be great.
$22,500
He said $13,000 for everything but electricity right? And it was $1,000 for electricity. Where did u get 22,500 from. Im confused
@@feroz3854 Taxes & fees

Fluffy $7,000 for concrete floor
You should go with 2x6 studs, 10 foot high ceiling, 8 foot high doors,

I built a tent garage on pallets with a floor on top of the pallets, then I bolted the tent garage to the pallets. I put a tarp under the floor to keep moisture away from the plywood and away from my under car.
So you drive your car on pallets and they don’t break ? What did you reinforce them with ?
I'm looking into those steel commercial kits like 40' by 30" for $10,000 before site prep and foundation down here in Florida.
The red beam style or the square tubing style?
@@blownbudgetdaily6422 That would be square tubing style.

In wisconsin also looking for a 24x30 'ish. Gotta love menards, hah? Hope you are enjoying your new home.

$13,000 for that? Wow that's awesome I'll go for it.
I’m in the Milwaukee area as well and this was very helpful
15’ high is a good height
That’s a crazy good price. I think I need that In concrete work alone
I only had a couple hundred in labor for a few buddies to finish the concrete, but I helped aswell. So kept it cheap

That’s pretty good for 13K. I’ve been debating if it’s worth building a two car garage to store for the winters.
Thinking of doing something similar myself. Thank you for the video. Very helpful.
No problem, thanks!
Blown Budget Daily where u from in Wisconsin?
We been wanting to build a garage for awhile now
Was any of the garage permitted an or inspected?
Yes all of it
Doing the ceiling insulation makes a massive difference. Insulating the walls does almost dick :(

Laughter attracts joy, releases negativity, and leads to miraculous cures.
Did menards drop off all of the materials at your build location? Or did you have to arrange for all of that with a 3rd party?
Yes it was about 150$ for a delivery through menards
How thick is that concrete slap? If its 5" thick plus 4" gravel you got a hell of deal. Here is Chicago IL. Surrounding area, that's a $30k garage!!!
Slab. A concrete slap would smart.
24 deep, 33 wide for mine. 10 foot high

The guy that buys your house and walks into the garage for the first time is going to face palm.....9 foot celilings! Really??
And not insulating roof!
Hey im in wisconsin too…did you get a city permit to build it or did you just did it?
Man....it would be 12 k just for the concrete here in BC Canada.
You can find free shed designs online that tell you all the supplies you would need. Idk why you would pay $3000 just for someone to ship you wood.
Fr. I think 7k would be about right doing it yourself
Here in 2022
I've now decided 20ft isn't wide enough... really just want room for one rig but still...
80% of your heat will be lost thru the ceiling, so if you blow some insulation up there - you’ll be toasty
I hear my garage with a wood stove !! Only when I am in there I use it
What’s the name of the company? The echo kind of muffled it. Nice job though
