Snap On is losing the competition. Little by little their going to be out of the market. If they want to stay in the business they have to compete in pricing.
I have been a Tech for 20 plus years and i have always lived by the rule. Buy the cheapest ok quality tool you can get. If you use it enough to wear it out or break it then buy the best quality tool you can afford to replace it. No need to send thousands on tools you use once every 6months or 2 years.
I’ve had Snap On tools for for 36 + years, and never had to grind one to make it fit. I don’t use my Snap On puller every day, but when I need it, I need it. Never had much luck with brand x.
I agree they’re getting out of hand with some things and tools that were great have been discontinued so if you have to warranty you’re screwed especially when a new design is worse.
A 17mm hex key cut to length and a 17mm socket shortened on the "poor man's lathe" (bench grinder) and you have a stubby plug socket. I usually engrave "Snap-Off" on my home made tools.
I came to this realization about 9 years ago. Now I do have alot of snap on, mac, matco and cornwell. But, I now have alot of tekton, capri, gear wrench, astro, and vim
True. Its a shame we have to get older to get wiser. I’ve never seen a snap on sale like Sears used to have. My number one favorite tool the graphing meter was way ahead of its time. Totally unsupported now. I’ve fixed it several times. Next failure and it’s done ☹️
You missed the point and top tier quality when they all break and I live my Snapon pliers, torque digital wrench and ratchets but fact of the matter is that Koken is much higher on the HRC steel than Snapon and a lot less and even they will break eventually with a warranty 🤔. I know some don’t like to hear it but when it’s hard for some when they become a tool snob and thus why I have a wide range variety.
Hey! Long time! Bought the AGA Tools magnetic fill plug set for around 100 bucks like five years ago, now they’re 169. Worth every penny! They have a thumb wheel and they’re magnetic. Super low profile, you can use a 13mm zero offset wrench that it magnetizes to. For 17mm, I cut off a long Snap On 17mm Allen socket decades ago, couldn’t imagine how much that one socket costs now! lol
I'd rather pay $200 for a quality Made in USA tool over the $40 chinesium POS. And I'm not even an auto tech, I'm an IT guy. I just work on cars (friends and family) on the weekends.
At one point in time you had to go to the tool trucks for the specialty tools, but not anymore. If harbor freight doesn't have it then the auto parts store or the internet will. For a lot less money
In terms of stubby quality low profile socketry, I'm Koken Z series all day. If I want innovational one offs and/or stubby bits (any type), I'm thinkin VIM👍
Love your videos but this one I don't agree with. I don't see snapon as a company dying no way. 200$ is nothing now days when oil changes are a 100$ minimum
It’s not the point even though you’re right but point is that why spend on something you will hardly have in your hand like a ratchet, pliers, hammer etc
Thanks for the rant it makes perfect sense why pay more for on tool when you could use that money to purchase several tools that you use on the daily 200 dollars for a once apon a time tool is crazy and when it comes to snap on tools alot of their specialty tools isn't even made by them for example lisle tool company makes stuff for them right there in Clarinda Iowa 14 miles from where i live thanks for sharing you thoughts hopefully it saves people money
The wobble plus extensions they have, not an innovation they came out.Copied the Koken design,Koken was first for the wobble plus extension bars and had a patent on this design
I don’t have that many snap on things they are just way overpriced absolutely great quality but not within my budget to be paying for a set of wrenches for half a year
Just because someone copies something doesn't mean they are not innovating, and it is always cheaper to copy a good idea. Is Snap on over priced, oh hell yes it is. All you need to do is ask is am I doing a job enough that the cost/reduction in frustration is worth it, till someone copies it.
Snap on tools like there pliers are reasonably priced... still more money but not crazy more... I don't get why they can't price their wrenches or sockets the same instead of their smoking Crack prices....
Had a buddy social media buy and show off a huge monster Snap On box. Worth more than most peoples truck. And within 3 months of that he was divorced. Not a smart buy.
Worst not the $200 socket set if it is good quality and made in the USA It piss me off when Snap on 14.4v battery tool ,Ratchets are made in USA but impact screwdrivers are made in China and sell same price . Greedy management
So the moral if the story is Snap On comes out with the idea, then wait for a chinese based company to copy cat their idea and make a crappier cheaper version of it. Then say snap on isn't innovative... I get that their prices are getting out of hand but need to give credit where credit is due. I mean harbor freight wouldn't have anything to sell unless snap on made something for them to copy 🤷
Snap on is very innovative I have seen a few new plier designs over the past few years but there sockets are getting overwhelming expensive and replacing with German stahlwille or HAZET
Snap-on has been screwing their franchisee's for several decades. They started screwing their customers about a decade ago. I'm looking forward to the day they realize they've been screwing themselves the entire time. Snap-on hasn't seen any of my money for a very long time. Premium tools at a premium price is understandable. Cheaply made tools at a premium price is a rip-off.
Snap on is definitely more sales oriented than service. Had a twin beam torque wrench that would read 20 % low and keept snapping studs. Snappy said injeed a tech angle and not have to tq wrench warrantied.
No one innovates anymore, most tools now are created by the tech team at the vehicles creation, then patented and licensed to the tool companies to produce. Snap-on is a rip off anyway. Too expensive and virtually no warranty anymore. Harbor Freight has a better warranty.
Haven’t had a driver in my area for 3 yrs. Can’t sell overpriced tools to underpaid people.
Havent been able to afford 5-600 dollar wrench sets for a very long time. Sorry tool trucks.
VIM has those sockets and has had them for a long time.
VIM are good tools!👍
The vim impact50 set is my go to. I truthfully thought vim was the one to come out with them first.

Had to grind down a snap on 33mm impact socket. A tekton one fit perfectly with a lifetime warranty. $80 socket vs $11 socket wasn’t a hard decision
Last time I checked the 1/4 drive master socket set was a grand.
Snap on tools are expensive. I buy them because they get the job done. Other tools some times don’t
I agree they’re getting out of hand with some things and tools that were great have been discontinued so if you have to warranty you’re screwed especially when a new design is worse.

They don't need to innovate? As long as they make top tier QUALITY tools myself and the guys that care about quality will continue to buy?
Have you seen the project farm and don't tests on their tools. They're not even mids. They're low tier. The metal isn't special. It's worse.
You missed the point and top tier quality when they all break and I live my Snapon pliers, torque digital wrench and ratchets but fact of the matter is that Koken is much higher on the HRC steel than Snapon and a lot less and even they will break eventually with a warranty 🤔. @@PonkyKongExactly my point 👍🏾 Thank you
@eliezerramosjr1017 only tools I've ever broken are Snap On. Only large wrench I've ever seen widen at the open end.
@@PonkyKongI have, and you're insanely wrong. US made tools almost always destroy the chinesium competition, even in his tests

Been mechanic 25 years using mac Maco and snap-on crazy prices i agree 100 percent

3/8 ratchets is just insane imo

I love Snap-On but I totally agree with this
I think their lighting department is innovative. Certainly the best, & most reliable project, & articulating lights I've used.
They have the best power tools in the game. Until someone has the brain to put a rocker trigger on a impact there isn’t a comparison.
8mm Allen key and a hammer for the zf transmission
It just makes you feel, how much is it worth to you. They have it you want it, but we're gonna stick it to you.
no tools trucks come to my work. we all know why
Plenty of competition nowadays sometimes better quality.
Love your videos but this one I don't agree with. I don't see snapon as a company dying no way. 200$ is nothing now days when oil changes are a 100$ minimum

You're not saying oil changes are profitable for shops, are you?
How much of that $100 goes to the technician?

He said $200 10x in this video!
I bought my stubby hex bits from Sunex. Impact rated and a lot cheaper than $200.
The wobble plus extensions they have, not an innovation they came out.Copied the Koken design,Koken was first for the wobble plus extension bars and had a patent on this design

Snapons pricing is out of control. The quality of great but not worth the markup

Snap on is a follower anymore... never thought id see the day!
for the hex try these: Mayhew Tools 16005 its both 3/8 drive and hex on the outside so you can use a wrench if you need it to be super low profile.
Yes! I have these. Fantastic!
I think a lot more was involved than just a toolbox.
@markm0000 it was the being stupid part. That's what got him.
Worst not the $200 socket set if it is good quality and made in the USA
It piss me off when Snap on 14.4v battery tool ,Ratchets are made in USA but impact screwdrivers are made in China and sell same price .

Ain’t gotta buy Snap-On. Go buy the Sunex hex 3/8. The nano sockets aren’t crazy expensive from Astro.
So the moral if the story is Snap On comes out with the idea, then wait for a chinese based company to copy cat their idea and make a crappier cheaper version of it.

Really have you seen the snap on catalogue.. whats there too invent. Your example is your own fault too
