Make Barrel Racing EASY! Try this one drill to test your Horses

How I think of approaching a turn is I think of shoulder up, drive forward, shoulder up, drive ahead. I do this a lot off the pattern, I really really like being able to do things off the pattern that completely 100% can transition onto the barrel. So I do a lot of straight lines and turns like this, I'll lift the shoulder up, drive ahead.
This Drill is a great way to teach your horse to shape for the turn and actually PREPARE for it. Make their job easier so they have their hip collected underneath themselves so when its time to turn they are in proper form.
Other alternatives are to do figure 8 through 2 barrels or away from any barrel.

Yes! It’s a simple concept, still hard to implement at first but it is really straight forward how it transfers to the barrel pattern
