My brother was a neurologist in Colorado Springs, Colorado. I say was because he abruptly died 2 weeks ago. There were 900 people at his funeral. Someone please explain why - O-why - we had to mask preschoolers in my program? Yes, we are federally funded and we were "required" under performance standards to do this. And then magic happens and the emergency health orders are going to expire May 11. My go-to has always been Cochrane library - and lack of RCTs so very disturbing. These kids are going to pay the price for a very long time. Mental health disorders through the roof, fear of attachment, increases in fighting and violent behaviors. Crushes the soul.
While covid is still around (and likely always will be), I'm wondering if we should do a "retrospective" on the things we learned about the medical community, science, communication, and various public responses to the pandemic. The early strains of COVID were bad but still only 2% mortality rate of confirmed infected. While this is very high and scary - it is very small in comparison to Spanish Flu, Small Pox and just about every major past pandemic in history (i.e. Black Death). I look at this as a "test run" for humanity. In my opinion, mostly failed. If this were a true global medical emergency (i.e. small pox vs The Aztecs) - humanity would be royally screwed. We might have a handful of hyper-paranoid picking up the pieces, but who knows, they might be too paranoid to ever come out of hiding. If we are going to have a decent chance of standing up against a serious pandemic, we need to learn lessons from this one.
@@sandramae1772 My aunt worked in the hospital in Alabama and this wasn’t the case, so perhaps not everywhere. I’m generally skeptical about anything remotely conspiracy in nature. I’d like to see a study not on if masks work or don’t work but IF mask wearing helps reduces inoculation. Did someone who had a mask on while sucking in Covid air turn out better than no mask? Would a smaller ( 10 percent, 20, 50 percent) reduction in inhalation of Covid allow the body to gear up for a defense and have less severe outcome or faster recovery? FYI I hate the masks.
It’s sooooo refreshing to hear someone that isn’t conservative say this. It’s scary how indoctrinated some curricula is today. We should be having conversations, but putting those often one sided/one viewpoint curriculum out there can be dangerous. I’m glad that your daughter seems to have a teacher willing to teach things as a conversation topic rather than indoctrination “white men bad”, but there are plenty of teachers that are doing nothing but indoctrination.

As someone who does not work in the medical field, I appreciate your insight. I've attended doctor's appt since and struggled with thinking how do I know if the information they are giving me is evidence based or not? Are there user friendly, reliable sources for those of us without a medical education?
I work in EBM, and the best source for laypersons is probably The Cochrane Library. Their "Systematic Reviews" are the gold standard of EBM, and each includes a summary for laypeople. Many medical societies are also fairly trustworthy, especially the American College of Cardiology, but some are less evidence-based. The FDA and CDC have been extremely disappointing these last few years. Depending on your appetite for science, there are TH-cam channels like "Sketchy EBM" that offer brief, simplified principles that you can use to critically appraise research claims yourself.

Respect is earned. Thus far she has not earned it, from me anyway, until she starts telling the scientific truth about things like masks and natural immunity instead of lying about them. And I say this as an educated biology major and medical laboratory scientist whose overall respect and admiration of the CDC has taken a nosedive over the past few years.

Worth noting, maybe a revised analysis of the report on the next episode? Alt middle baby! The original Plain Language Summary for this review stated that 'We are uncertain whether wearing masks or N95/P2 respirators helps to slow the spread of respiratory viruses based on the studies we assessed.' This wording was open to misinterpretation, for which we apologize. While scientific evidence is never immune to misinterpretation, we take responsibility for not making the wording clearer from the outset. We are engaging with the review authors with the aim of updating the Plain Language Summary and abstract to make clear that the review looked at whether interventions to promote mask wearing help to slow the spread of respiratory viruses.
VP probably isn’t contagious. He’s been coughing like that and sucking on lozenges for at least a month or so now. Interestingly this is pretty common amongst the vaxxed. Not sure if they’ve noticed it themselves, but the constant cough lasts for months and months. I feel sorry for them.

The difference between ivermectin and mask is that NO ONE was trying to FORCE anyone to take ivermectin. Ivermectin is cheap and safe. @@wadetisthammer3612 I only tuned in to ZDogg because a lot of people during the vax pressure campaign were using his videos to persuade family and friends to take an unnecessary and unproven vax for something that was not a serious threat to most people's health. People bought into his "alt-middle" logic and vaccinated their kids and now some people regret it. Zdogg never actually went against the establishment on anything during the heat of the covid pandemic, he just pretended to understand the other side and then lead you back in to what Fauci and friends wanted you to do. A couple of tips if you want to make some improvements. Pull the camera back and don't sit side by side. It is just weird. Sit at an angle facing each other like a normal conversation and put your mikes on the side you are facing towards. You'll thank me - really!

Still looking for something concrete to discuss about masking with my wife. Am I missing something other than the argument was "you're going to get COVID no matter what so what's the point of masking?". What about the uncertainty of long term effects of COVID and the vaccine? You're telling me treatment isn't going to get better? The truth is that masks do work at preventing or mitigating the spread of many illnesses. Its why surgeons and medical personnel have always had to wear them in the OR. I somehow doubt that these people would be okay with their medical provider inadvertantly spraying any kind of inoculum on them when in the compromised position of a patient. It's a basic and proven health measure that relies on concientiousness and empathy for others, which apparently are uncommon qualities. Wearing a mask sometimes around people with weakened immunity or worrisome risk factors, especially if you have a cough or a splutter, is ultimately a common courtesy. Like washing your hands after you blow your nose before touching a doorknob. It's not asking much.
The lighting is complimentary for Z Dogg , but Vinay should have a backlight (motivated by the studio light already in the shot) to seperate him from the background. You both are quick to remind everyone you were always and remain politically left, but neither of you can deny reality has moved you towards the opinions of the conservative right, who typically hold that reality conforms to a natural order, and so does morality. You get to accuse the villains of wrongdoing because you assume moral absolutes do exist, can be known and should be adhered to.
Zdogg helping his daughter is only helping 5% of all public schoolers. Thinking that this is all he needs to do is where so many are missing the big picture. In fifteen years, Zdogg’s daughter will be facing the 95% who were taught otherwise and she too will watch epic failure simply because her classmates didn’t get the critical thinking education that she received. Until these smart guys see that the underlying problem resides in the public school system, the next health crisis will be many times worse. Zdogg declared he is a public school product and therefore he supports public school. Isn’t this the thinking that had him promoting the vaccine? Fundamentally his thinking is unchanged.

I have to take my mask down to talk to hard of hearing patients anyway. They’d rather be able to communicate and don’t really care about getting covid.
Good for you Dr Prasad for going after Eric Topol. The man does not have the humility to see his intellectual limitations, mistakes or biases.
My brother was a neurologist in Colorado Springs, Colorado. I say was because he abruptly died 2 weeks ago. There were 900 people at his funeral. A lot of folks were patients in wheelchairs and walkers. They told me they loved him. I asked why? They said because he listened to me and we talked for 10 minutes about the Rockies games and my family before he got into the business of the appointment. Interesting…

Don’t forget language and social delays. Emotional processing and facial (reading facial expressions) is essential to learn at that age.
It wasn't 2% death rate for those that got infected if the went the early treatment protocol route. That was less than .01%
@@sandramae1772 My aunt worked in the hospital in Alabama and this wasn’t the case, so perhaps not everywhere. I’m generally skeptical about anything remotely conspiracy in nature. It is possible that many were marked as COVID if they had it when they died regardless if that was the actual cause of death.
@@kenp7580 Depended on the country, quality of care, age and other factors. Before vaccines and early variations, it was slightly above 2% - but significantly higher in high risk groups like elderly and those with chronic conditions. Later variants tended to be more infectious but less severe - by the time I got it, it was like a bad cold, granted - I had three shots, so I’m sure that helped too.
Sadly, not enough to be of any use for the next pandemic.
About your daughter’s ethics class: thank goodness you are there to question her and provide an alternate explanation to the ‘indoctrination’ scenario. Makes me sad that many kids don’t have parents who engage in this conversation or even care.

Monica Gandhi thought they lowered inoculation- I'd like to see a study as well.
The n95s most certainly lower the inoculum but I don't know If that changes severity of disease
what about re-inoculation of exhaled viral particulate

Excellent episode. Will we ever actually hold accountable the people who were making the horrible, misguided decisions that so damaged our trust in public health? I have yet to hear any apologies for how we demonized good people with rational, dissenting views and questions. Who will stand up for the millions of children forced out of their education? Alt Middle was always the way to go, but our leaders don't seem to learn.
The fact that these two attack both sides of the political aisle (mask wearing and ivermectin) makes me more confident in their judgment.
ZDogg's "alt middle" perspective is BS. He only appeals to people that want to feel like they are getting some kind of smart alternative perspective.
@@MikeSmith-vy4wp
What was BS about it? For example, I checked the Cochrane study; it does exist and the deficiency of RCT support was reported in it.
The difference between ivermectin and mask is that NO ONE was trying to FORCE anyone to take ivermectin. Ivermectin is cheap and safe.
People did, however, try to PREVENT people from taking Ivermectin. That insanity would be akin to trying to force others to NOT wear a mask.
These two disappoint me with their lack of logic.
@@wadetisthammer3612 I only tuned in to ZDogg because a lot of people during the vax pressure campaign were using his videos to persuade family and friends to take an unnecessary and unproven vax for something that was not a serious threat to most people's health. ZDogg pretended like he was seeing both sides of the spectrum but 100% of the time was condescending to people not wanting to take the vax and heavily inferred that people not wanting the vax were dumb. People bought into his "alt-middle" logic and vaccinated their kids and now some people regret it. Zdogg never actually went against the establishment on anything during the heat of the covid pandemic, he just pretended to understand the other side and then lead you back in to what Fauci and friends wanted you to do.
VP is a different case. He doesn't seem to have or want to use common sense, he needs a rock solid RCT from a respected publication before can be enlightened to the most obvious medical bs. His head is deep in the sand, but I think he is a bit more honest.

Prior authorizations get denied all the time for very necessary treatments.
I suggest that the problem to bad policies that incentivize the wrong behaviors is to abandon those policies, not adding on more policies. Get rid of barriers to entry and limits to profitability in medical insurance and let the market solve it’s own problems
Masking also certainly didn't help the landfills and the waterways, now clogged with unnecessary masks.

The VA retrospective study was pretty good for Paxlovid and reduced risk of long covid. Not a huge socioeconomic difference across the VA population.
Retrospective study very low evidence. Watch the snesible medicine episode I think they mention the va study...... Also as an army man and member of my american legion post pretty involved "this is antidotal " majority of people who use the va are or va rated for some reason.. i would think vets who are rated by va would be more likely to get "long covid" due to higher rates of mental health diagnosises.
Again this is just my experience in My american legion post.
@@patrickmurray2340 it was a study of just VA patients. The video didn’t talk about it. The study retrospectively looked at veterans who got Paxlovid vs veterans who did not. They are a highly vaccines population as well.
The more risk factors for severe disease the more likely Paxlovid caused a reduction in long covid (which better helps imply causation).
@@TheReligiousLeft the question is what disease pathway does long covid follow..... A couple of tips if you want to make some improvements. Pull the camera back and don't sit side by side. It is just weird. Sit at an angle facing each other like a normal conversation and put your mikes on the side you are facing towards. You'll thank me - really!
And coughing directly in your face. Seriously?? I'm a retired nurse tho, not a doc, maybe you know something I don't about germ theory.
@@sallyfellows8281 LOL...I don't think it makes any difference since they twisted in their chairs for a lot of the time and were turning toward each other half the time anyway. It was just awkward visually. Perhaps he should have just worn a mask to keep the sputum contained? As far as germs, if they are airborne it wouldn't make any difference considering the time they were together. If the germs are transmitted by fomites they probably touched the same things in the same area such as the microphones. So seriously not sure what you think the difference would be.
If all masks do is possibly delay getting covid for a few months- I'm happy to take it. I'm caring for my father who's in his late 80's and on chemo. If it buys me more time with him, even a week- it's more than worth it to me. So far neither of us has had Covid, I'll do what I can to keep it that way.
Same here, I am in my 60's with comorbidities, have not had covid, and would like to delay it as much as possible because of what it may do to me. Sometimes, it appears as if the attitude these days is, "Oh well, if you get covid and it turns out poorly for you, too bad, but for the rest of us, life goes on!" I know quite a few people in my world that would NOT think that way if covid took me out, lol!
@@wafflesmomforlife9215 I get that people want to get on with their lives- believe me, I would like that too. My Dad is more important to me than that tho- and people like you and him are being discounted or even ridiculed for wearing masks and trying to stay as healthy as possible. Whether masks work a little or a lot or just delay a bad outcome like VP was saying in the clip I'm happy to do what to me is a very small effort. I don't ask anyone else to wear one but the comments and looks I get make me feel bad about the lack of compassion in the world. These doctors making jokes about it doesn't really help. Still looking for something concrete to discuss about masking with my wife. Am I missing something other than the argument was "you're going to get COVID no matter what so what's the point of masking?". I don't think that's common sense, what about us that have toddlers or newborns that aren't vaccinated? Let's just give it to them now since they're going to get COVID in their life? What about the uncertainty of long term effects of COVID and the vaccine? You're telling me treatment isn't going to get better? I get masking isn't ideal but if it reduces the chance of submission and helps to prolong not getting COVID, it still makes a lot of sense to me. For the record I don't want to mask nor make everyone do it, but it makes sense that it reduces the chances of getting it. Also, did not vote for Biden.
Yes. Toddlers aren’t at risk with Covid. The best thing you can do for them is expose them to Covid now. They will have few to no symptoms.
@@AnaLucia-wy2ii not according to CDC where there was 400 hospitalizations last week for 0-5 age group. That factors parents like me who take precautions so it could be higher.
OMG there have been 78 studies proving the masks don't stop a viris.

I have learned much from these discussions among curious educated professionals trying to make sense of what is going on in the world.
