    Bunker shots demystified , thank you for the clear instruction with a student. Cannot wait to go to the practice sand trap. Bunker shots have been my thorn for awhile, just hit-and-pray for me.

    Glad to see Matty is actually a human! This is spot on. Get a couple go to shots from the bunker and the fear of them vanishes. Much rather be in a bunker most of the time than in the rough around the green if I'm going to miss. Easier to control spin etc. Perfect and simple advice.

    Thanks guys! Matt asked some great questions and Tyler was very clear on what Matt needed to do and explained it beautifully. You could see that having Matt stand farther away from the ball really flattened his swing, but Matt kept "creeping" closer to it by the end of the video!

    When I learned how to keep my weight on the front foot more and not collect as much sand, I noticed that I started hitting my bunker shots way too far cause I had always just slammed the club into the sand at full speed way behind the ball in order to get it out. Now I feel like I can just clip it with less power and control the distance way more. I learned that technique watching Rory McIlroy hit bunker shots and it's cool to see Tyler McGhie teaching Matt almost the exact same technique that I've been using.

    Playing ... cool can’t wait to see the footage. 😂 All work and no play makes Matty a dull boy #TXGtheshining. When I get the opportunity to play on courses with bunkers I am thrilled to play a shot out of them the biggest challenge I have is to say reading the bunker’s sand conditions and making the appropriate adjustments. 👍

    Love how Tyler talks about controlling how much sand gets between the clubface and the ball. I will definitely be more aware of this in improving my bunker play. 👍🏻👍🏻

    Seve's technique for getting out of bunkers is still the best, "hands really low and weight on the front foot throughout the swing". It gets you to hit the sand shallow and gets the ball out every time.

    Tyler - viewing chipping/pitching technique back to back highlights in my mind; chipping - keep shaft lean on by turning through; pitching - keep loft on by shallowing backswing, little to no turn? Very different techniques with elements that are not mixable? Like shaft lean with no turn through or pitching with loft with big turn through.

    I hardly take sand when I bunker out most of the time so I thought I might be doing things wrong. Sounds like it’s better to take less sand for controlled shots and for spin situations!

    "I like a lot of that, I am just going to tweak a couple of things", when my coach says that to me what he actually means is "Oh God this guy doesn't have a clue and the good bits are pure accidents" (sad but true)
    Seems like Tyler learned "coach speak" from the same place as my coach

      In life, often it’s a fine line between greatness and mediocrity. In golf it’s an even finer line so these coaches may not be wrong. 😃😃

    Very useful, I was really struggling today. Our bunkers alternate between fluffy and rock hard, so I never know how to play. The hard ones cause the club just to bounce off the surface, leading to the dreaded skull. Any suggestions for harder bunkers? You said that there wasn't much sand in this bunker but I didn't see any of this problem with Matt's shots.

    The first time I’ve seen Matt uncomfortable over a shot! Although his practice take away was still shallower than his actual swing, coach didn’t pick up on that so now I don’t know if I need to be shallow or steep?

    Our bunkers are dirt. They say good sand blows out. How do I do this?

  • @MikeDoba
    @MikeDoba 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think of myself as a good bunker player, my technique is similar, open my 58deg. Open stance, some weight forward, using more arms less body getting the club under the ball.. Its quite simple imo
    However this yr I found so many courses West of Toronto had such poor bunkers. Next to no sand and extremely compact, so much that my technique would bounce off the sand instead of going in the same and resulting in skulls.
    I wasnt impressed with many courses and the consistency of their bunkers to say the least

    My bunker thought: "My ball is sitting on white stuff. Once this swing concludes, ball... please do not still be on white stuff or in blue stuff... anything beyond that is perfectly acceptable."

    There's a much easier way to get out of the bunker get a 60 ° with 14 ° of bounce you will never leave it in a bunker again

    I am coming to you from the United States this winter I will be getting my passport is there anything else that I need or should be doing before coming to you and getting fit. I love playing a slight fade with the driver and the irons , I just feel like I can illuminate half the course I do play a 48 inch driver for me I just find the center the face easier and my irons play at least 1 to 2 inches long my swing speed with the driver is about 95 mph Titleist 917 12 open to 10.5 with lead tape on toe. senior alt 198 Frequency but swing weight E0 feel heavy in the head. I just bought a ping G 10*draw opened up all the way extended shaft 48 swing weight still very low the shat must have a high balance point. love the swing weight feel but still hooks too much they don’t make standard ping G 12* if they did I would opened up to 10 might be a winner. I hit a lot of fairways and greens my short game is strong my putting weak my friends tell me I cut across my putts. Our golf courses here are in very bad condition hardly any, to no grass on the fairways so your ball fines low points a sharp leading edge seems to be best to dig it out. My problem is when I do go to a better playing golf course like Notre Dame Warren course to try to qualify for the senior open my swing speed was 105 game was much stronger but sharp leading edge I believe hurt me on a better course. My handicap on the 6600 yard course is 2.1thank you Tell Williams ps I broke my wrist missed most of 2019 season so my swing speed is down now

    • @glennwiebe5128
      @glennwiebe5128 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. It's the same thing he was doing with his chip shots. Tyler was wanting him to do the same swing in the sand. This swing eliminates a lot of the variables and complexity. Most of the bunkers I've played out of have been firm like the one that Matt is playing out of. A couple of rounds ago I played on a course that had a lot of very fine fluffy sand in their bunkers. The lip on the bunker I was in was about 4' high so I needed some speed and an open face to get the ball up. I'm used to thumping the bounce into the sand and the ball just pops out every time. However, the fluffy sand didn't bounce the club up and I went right under the ball, moving it about 6". Not being a round of consequence, I dropped a second ball and played it as if it was deep rough and lipped it out. Deceleration is one of our worst enemies!
