Thanks Madison for reacting to this movie. As a old guy born in 1946...I relate to most of it. I still have the old Daisy Red Rider B.B. gun I had as a kid as well as my old 1949 Cushman motor Scooter I bought when I was 14 in 1961! I'm 76 and 1/2 now!

    Teacher: "Has anyone seen Flick?"
    Narrator: "Flick? Flick who?"
This little bit gets me every time because of how Peter Billingsley plays it. It's amazing how people either love this movie or dislike it. There doesn't seem to be a middle "meh, it's all right, I guess." Me, I absolutely LOVE it. Because of this movie, I have a Chinese meal at a nice restaurant every December.

I realize this was a re-upload, but I'm so glad to see you finally watched this. To me, this is an absolutely perfect movie. I can't think of one thing I'd change. The casting, the music, the costumes, the dialog...all perfect. I have honestly watched this at least fifty times. I'm happy that you enjoyed it so much. I think I would have been devastated if you didn't love it. I remember one reactor I respect a lot thought it was "just okay" and I had to hide under my sink like Randy.

Here’s something you’ll get a kick out of:
When they went to the Chinese restaurant, the actress who played mom didn’t know they were going to bring a whole duck out, neck and head on and all.
Nor that the waiter was going to chop it off.
It was a trick the entire cast and production crew played on her. If you watch that scene again, you can see how she’s freaking out and goes totally out of character. That’s not acting. It was her honest reaction to seeing it for the first time.

My mother's favorite Christmas film, mostly because she was 10 when this film takes place (1939; you can tell because of the Wizard of Oz characters in the parade and other references). She also had the Little Orphan Annie decoder ring and would listen every week. The one message she could remember actually had to do with the plot of the program, so it wasn't always a commercial.

"Santa Claus: The Movie" (1985) with Dudley Moore and John Lithgow, along with "A Christmas Story", is one of the Christmas movies we grew up on. It's a fantastic movie that tells a wonderful story about an elf who thinks he knows better.
Also great for the Christmas season:
    - "Mickey's Christmas Carol" (1983), another take on ol' Ebenezer Scrooge portrayed by Donald Duck, with Mickey as "Bob Cratchit".
    - "Die Hard" (1988), a story of how a family comes together during a difficult situation to realize the importance of family during the holidays.
    - "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" (1989), about a father whose only wish is to bring his family together by way of a swimming pool...And 25,000 strung lights.
