Wow.... reading today about Mr. Gunther Schuller's life and his contributions, from New England Conservatory. Did you know Mr Schuller implemented the first degree-granting Jazz program in a purely Classical conservatory, in 1969 ? He formalizes NEC’s commitment to jazz in 1969 !

The only thing out of Schuller's huge catalogue that gets played, an interesting attempt to write somewhat lightweight 12-tone music.
I think you're missing the point. Stop hearing music in terms of "isms."
