And those sets were quite amazing! I saw the movie, but had only watched 1 or 2 episodes of Ninjago - just not my thing, but those sets were amazing, and the movie was entertaining [I'm a sucker for anything Jackie Chan is in]. They were fun, creative builds, and priced awesomely. And they inspired the every-2-years Ninjago City modular sets which are epic, even for someone like me who doesn't get all the easter eggs. But Star Wars has a *huge* following. As such, they know from research and history, that people will pay a higher price for Star Wars stuff. So that clearly is why they make these so high. And even if this is a meta set, and proves to not be as a popular as something from the movies/TV shows [canon], then when it goes on sale in retailers, it will be lowered down to the price we all would feel comfortable paying for to begin with. :)
Obi-Wan’s Starfighter has 3 figures and 282 pieces for $30, while Jedi Bob’s Starfighter has 2 figures + buildable Gonk and 305 pieces for $40. There’s no way 23 pieces is worth $10. This set is way overpriced.
There's also the fact that Obi-Wan's starfighter comes with Taun We, who uses a new bespoke head mold which likely isn't going to be reused again, and production molds are significantly more expensive than just about anything. Add on one of the 'minifigures' in this being brickbuilt, and the value does seem overall less than Kenobi's ship.
I’ve wanted this set for so long, ever since 1987 in “Star War: A New Jedi Returns to Strike Back”, when Jedi Bob tells Vader that he is his father, and sends him to his room before bed time. I cried, I cheered, I clapped. All for Jedi Bob. And now somehow Bob returned 🥹
The color blocking, details like the diverters, and the overall finish are all really good! It’s a shame the figure selection (and the price of the set) are relying on Jedi Bob as a crutch and throwing the value off a bit

I built this kit myself and man did I enjoy it a lot. I have been out of Lego since the early 2000s so maybe I am just impressed easily but man I had a blast with this set.
I hated those huge holes in the cockpit too, and found that replacing that modified 2x2 plate with a 2x4 tile covers the holes fully & the figures still don't move around when the canopy is closed :D
As per usual the standard prices up here in Finland are atrocious, we're expected to pay *52,95€* for this, and discounts on star wars sets are near nonexistent, thankfully there's a store chain that charges actually good prices (although this one goes for something only moderately better that the expected price in wider Europe at 37,99€)
Mon Clon-amari? Aaahaha - I didn't even realise that he ought to be a clone since "Jedi Bob" originated with the EpII movie. I don't know why they don't patch up the underside - it would be so easy to do.
I appreciate that it filled the gaps between the wings and fuselage, along with how it purposely looks like an older set, but 40 dollars for around the same amount of stuff as Obi-wan's starfighter, and that set still is on shelves, makes me want to buy it on sale.

I have the Azure Angel from 10-11 years ago, whenever that came out, and it’s one of my favorite sets. So I’m very tempted to get this just cause it looks like a long lost sister to that one.
Love the set. great fun. I did mess with the top tiling to get rid of the white rectangle breaking up the red on the top at the front there. And very much on the 'overpriced' wagon.

I definitely like this set, but it does feel weird seeing a hyperspace fighter without an astromech. I could see myself picking this up, but I wouldn’t pay more than $30. I do love that gonk, though.
I'll be very interested to know how well this set sells given its price along with the set being based around such a niche character that general buyers wont be familiar with at all, even with the special coming out later this year.
Not gonna lie I’m a bit impressed with Lego’s commitment to the meme wave. Takes guts to invest so heavily in something so seemingly absurd. I also can’t help but suspect they put the gonk droid in there because of your channel Jang! They may never come out and say it but I love it!
I'm pretty sure walmart has this for $30. Which is right on price per part value for a 300 piece set. I'm a little tired of jedi Starfighters. But this is a refreshing one. I'm guessing the dark grey is also a throwback to the vintage sets.
This was my most anticipated SW set this wave, but... yeah I'll get it in a year. I still need The Ghost, The Office, the zen garden, and Hokusai too much to justify $40 for this when starfighters the same price used to be $20
Funny story about this set. I saw this in a Target on the 25th of July. There were about 10 copies of this set on the shelf. I chose not to buy it at the time. Walk back in the next day with only one left. I bought it not because of Jedi Bob but because I'm a Jedi Starfighter fan and I watched your review of the Blue Angel video from the past before I bought it because I didn't own the original Blue Angel.
might just be my imagination, but the blue color of the Gonk droid in this set feels like a reference to the original Kenner action figure Gonk, which was a dark blue. could just be a coincidence tho
Yeah, the lack of astromech is my biggest problem with that set's price. Gonk is great and all, but no custom astromech for Bob? I wish they used Gonk's colour scheme for astromech, since it feels like a vague reference to B2's colour from the dropship. Alternatively brown and grey astromech as an reference to Droideka would also have been cool. But oh well, what do we expect at this point?
Totally agree with the majority, looks great and Jedi Bob is iconic, just don’t love the price, we’ll definitely be able to get it on sale in the future 😎
I still don't think this price is that insane compared to the previous Obi Wan starfighter, if you're going off size and the fact this thing probably won't sell as many units being an obscure meme. Protip though for those upset about the price, Barnes & Noble is a good place in the US to buy Lego because their $40/year membership comes with a 10% off everything non-electronic (including Lego) discount, which adds up if you're in the US and buy a lot of Lego.
The set looks all great but the only grite I really wish Lego would have done. was place a clone trooper from 2002 original helmet mode eye through, instead of the calamari. And second, The price is high.
Really wanted this one because it was funny to me (and looked solid) but the price I felt was insane. I spent my insider points getting a $20 discount on it and after building it yeah, I could totally see $30 being fair for it but in no way could convince myself $40 was acceptable.
Just looking at this I was instantly on board with it because the color blocking is great. The belly is genuinely hilarious though, made me chuckle. Very empty, but I guess it's good that the budget was spent on the sides that end up being visible. 😅
I want it only cause of Jedi Bob he's a legend for us who begin with lego star wars since the begining in 1999 well i only have 5 years old when lego star wars be launch and i feel nostalgic of the famous jedi i always see on the catalog when i see the 1st ever gunship i always wanted as kid (still have those catalog tho 😉) so yes the price of is starfighter is a bit to high but well cause of this nostalgia is a must buy for me. I think it looks like Anakin clone wars blue starfighter. I had fun building it Im planning to fill the holes. The only negative point is the price but knowing that star wars belongs to Shitney Mickey rat need $$&
I think it’s a cool looking design but lots of room for improvement! Like why have the 1x2 white tiles and dark grey grills on the wings? Why not use red tiles and red grills to continue the colour scheme rather than breaking it up? Same goes for the 1x2 plate w/rails in white- why aren’t they red to maintain the colour scheme? Would look so much better just colour swapping those pieces….

If this had one more figure, I wouldn’t be so skeptical on the price. I don’t even think it needs to be unique, it could be another Ackbar trooper. It’s just… too expensive. I’m stockpiling Insider points from my hoard of instructions in hopes I can knock ten or so dollars off of it.
Great review as always! I really appreciate the detailing of this set and I like the color scheme, but it’s undoubtedly overpriced. That said, I bought it as soon as I could because I wanted LEGO Jedi Bob, but if it weren’t for the memes I would’ve just waited for a sale, because there’s almost certainly going to be one and this set almost certainly should’ve been $30.
It's kinda irritating me that lego seems to be moving away from the toy aspect. I remember being a kid and there were like 4-6 play functions in some sets. Now there's only 2 or 3.
The price seems way too high, but I guess you have to factor in the Disney tax, Star Wars tax, and the newly established "meme tax"

Sure if you count a Droid as a figure. It's a slightly more stylized brick build than the gronk
I think this set should've been the same price as Obi-Wan's Jedi Starfighter, even though it comes with the legendary Jedi Bob.
It includes the same amount of figures (if you count droids as figs) so the price increase is disappointing.

Another honest review, thank you Jang, while it's a great model with a great plated pattern, it's RRP is so high compare to the Obi-Wan's fighter.

Personally i would've added a different episode 2 era clone like a commando or alpha ARC trooper but i guess it's not an episode 2 set.

Bob's torso print has a used look, because he's been around or more then 20 years.
Good set, but an awful price for such a empty build. The volume of plastic is not here.
