I just love the charisma that athletes haves, the style the smartness like you and mark lewis I want to be like this ( my aim is to run a sub 3hr marathon) I started running a year ago for fat loss ( i lost 22kgs) and Now i run because I love it, my avg pace is 5:00min/km for lactic threshold workout and 5:45min/km for easy runs I plan to run a half marathon next year or in this years end and a full marathon in 2024 end IK i won't get sub 3hr in 1st marathon but there is a lot to learn great video thx
Good luck on your running Journey. Humor of Mark Lewis and other attributes you mentioned made me a fan of his too. I started 1/2 year ago and will do my first "real" half marathon in one month. Only wanted to do trail running in my local woods but found running fast/racing to be fun too^^
@@SuperFuzzyDunlopsorry I didn’t reply, I guess the answer is both really, be patient, I would recommend starting slightly slower than target pace for the first 5k, this will pay dividends towards latter stages of marathon.
Great video Simon, Im running my first marathon San Diego Rock and roll on June 4th. Planning on running another before the year ends and will use your tips!

Hi Simon, super video with all the tips I'm looking for... I'm aiming to run my first marathon this October in Dublin so looking to start a proper 16 week training plan. I took part in a 8k race two weeks ago and won my class (male 50-54) in running 32.19, so I'm now unfit. I tried to screenshot your weekly training sessions, but not having much luck deciphering the plan 😂 Would you be able to give me some pointers or better still a plan to achieve a 3.30 marathon? I'm 51 years of age, 67kg in weight and completely dedicated to the task I hand when I decide to do something. I have the Nike Tempo for training and the Nike Vaporfly for race days. I've signed up for a build up race once a month before the marathon... which is on the 29th of October. Cheers Gary
Hi Gary, well done on the race that is a great result! looking at that 8km race, with the right training I think you can easily achieve sun 3:30. I’ll tell you what if you send me an email on simonv_94@live.co.uk then I would be happy to coach you through that Dublin block if you wanted me too. Let me know Cheers Simon
Hello John, so depending where I am in the block, I usually start off with strength sessions a week and then once I get into my peak weeks I keep it to 1 a week. Strength will definitely help your running, should have added that one in 😂
Hello mate, so I did probably 7-8 weeks of solid 32ks long run each week with a few those reaching up to 35k, I never went beyond this, Which is the first as before I did 37-38k probably more for confidence rather than actually needing to do it. Also because my legs were already tired due to more volume, I didn’t feel the need to do more than 34k. Depending how many marathons you have done I totally get why you’d want to do slightly more than this
Thanks for the tips @Simon and congratulations in Your 2:46 marathon

such a good video. amazing advice!!
Solid, starting slow is key - it really is the worst feeling having a poor finish. Finishing strong is so underrated, keep up the good work 👏
For sure, can utilise that in every race! We’ve all been there And gone out to quick haha
@@Simonsaysrun50 Thanks, Simon! just finished my 4th Half, a 3-minute course PR! What's the best email to reach you at?
@@progressionhealth hello best email to reach me is simonv_94@live.co.uk
When you say start slow - is that slower than goal marathon pace, leaving you with time to make up, or just make sure to not exceed it significantly?

Hello, I just ran a 100k race which I did in ten hours, having a few weeks off and then will be starting training for Malaga
How long was your long runs in the main part of your block

@@Simonsaysrun50 thanks for your reply. I was thinking of doing 3-4 up to 36 to give me some confidence as you said. Cheers
