    I have never been to this restuarant before, but whenever I go to Las Vegas I always go to Sam Woo on Spring Mountain road and the last time I was there I ordered the Roasted pig on rice and my brother in law ordered the Beef chow fun and we went there twice and had the same dishes!!!. We used to go to Cathay House for Dim Sum but it has since closed down....:( Their dishes were not as good but the Dim sum was pretty good....:) Will try this restaurant the next time we go. Thanks!!!

    I just happened upon your video and love the delicious food you showcase. I live in the Bay Area and wish there was an affordable and mouthwatering restaurant here like SK. Unfortunately, with inflation/shrinkflation, the quality and quantity goes down and the prices go up.

    I have never ventured off The Strip when I used to visit once a year. If I ever go back to Vegas again, I will definitely go to Chinatown to try this place.
    BTW, how many people were in your party to eat so many dishes?
    May I suggest showing the bill/receipt at the end? I know it will be time specific and may not be as relevant for future viewings, but I find the prices per dish captured in time to be one of my favorite things to look for in these food videos. I also collect takeout menus for nostalgic reasons.

    • @LetsEatVegas
      @LetsEatVegas  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There were just two of us, and you're not the first person to comment on the volume of food consumed, lol. But, it's not as bad as it seems as we almost always go to a place twice when producing a video.
      And, interesting comment about the bill/receipt. I almost always record that but always end up leaving it out of the video as prices change too frequently (especially these days) and so didn't want to get people mad if they go to the restaurant with an incorrect expectation of the cost. But, maybe we'll include it with a disclaimer?
      Thanks for watching!!

    Thank you for another excellent review. Looking at everything you ordered brings me back to my childhood days in New York City when my dad was in the restaurant business. Salt and Pepper anything is awesome. Singapore Mai Fun is still one of my favorite dishes. So is the pan fried noodles with beef or better yet with seafood. Flat rice noodles with a thick sauce is delicious. I do have a question though. Recently, I have heard the word UMAMi thrown around quite a bit. What exactly is UMAMi? Is it an ingredient? Is it a taste? How is it that there is an Umami taste in chicken and beef? Or is it just a fancy term that everyone has decided to use now?I thought it was only in seafood. I am a bit confused..

    • @LetsEatVegas
      @LetsEatVegas  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for watching and excellent comments! New York Chinatown is fantastic. Do you still live in that area?
      As for term 'Umami', it was originally coined by a Japanese Chemist, Ikeda, in 1908. It means "sweet savory taste". But, it has become prevalently used in the last 10 years. It was believed that there was a 5th taste (the savory taste) that we can pick up on our tongues. It has since been proven to be true. We have taste buds to pick up the 'savory' taste. Umami is naturally found in many foods such as beef, chicken, and seafood, but also in cheeses, tomatoes, mushrooms, truffles, and many others. It's also what MSG brings to the table. MSG was first patented back in the early 19 hundreds by Ikeda, who was trying to figure out what made his wife's soup so appealing. He felt there was another taste going on beyond the known 4 (sweet, sour, bitter, salty). He eventually figured out how to make an additive to achieve this savory 'flavor' and called it monosodium glutamate. He started a company in 1909, Ajinomoto, which mass produced MSG. When we first started our restaurant in LA there was another place just opening called Umami Burger. Their 'hook' was the use of a number of ingredients high in Umami in their burgers. A lot of people noted one could make an equally satisfying (and much less expensive) burger if they simply sprinkled a bit of MSG (Accent) onto their burgers, lol. OK, hope that helps, 😁

      @@LetsEatVegas My dad got out of the restaurant business in the mid 1980s. In the 1990s to mid 2000s my aunt and uncle ran a huge dim sum restaurant called Harmony Palace. Seated about 800 people! It was packed for dim sum everyday. All the carts rolling around with all the classic dim sum. In the evenings, there would be wedding banquets and local business and Association dinners. Not too many big Asian restaurants like that left these days. I left New York City in 2009. I currently live in Houston which has become quite a foodie city now. Fortunately for me, I am in the hospitality business as an Executive Concierge. Many restaurants would roll out the red carpet for me to try out their food in hopes of me referring business to them. Over the years I have posted close to 200 reviews on Trip Advisor of restaurants mostly in Houston but there are some from my trips to Las Vegas, New York City, and Chicago. My handle is mjbbg572 if you want to take a look. I have considered starting my own TH-cam channel but I am lazy! I do not want to deal with all the editing and posting guidelines. Yes, I can hire someone to do all the work while I just eat. But I also sense that there are too many reviewers on TH-cam so I likely will not stand out enough. But I am still considering it.

    • @LetsEatVegas
      @LetsEatVegas  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wow, quite the history! An 800 seat dim sum place...with all those carts it must seem like a race track, lol. As for reviewing on YT, yes, the editing and posting is a pain and the money isn't much to speak of, but, it's fun to put a real review out there rather than the usual 'cheerleading' you see from most channels. I'll be sure to check out your TripAdvisor page. When we had our restaurant in LA we always found TripAdvisor to be better than Yelp. It seemed that those doing the reviews were more knowledgeable!

      I completely agree. The strip has gotten insane but there are so many reasonably priced options just off strip. And this is one of them! Tried SK last night for dinner. Not impressed. The service from the asian waitress's was horrible. But, the kid behind the counter was very polite and helpful. When after 10 minutes, I literally had to get from my table and ask him to please bring my wife and I some ice water, Chile oil, white pepper and soy sauce. I asked 2 different waitresses to please bring us those items and was ignored. The food was bland and subpar IMO. The Beef Chowfun had a great wok cook but without flavor. The Sweet and sour pork was more sweet than sour, and the batter on the pork was very mushy. About the only half decent dish was the braised pork. Even that was barely passable. Any where else would have been better. That was my first experience with SK. I like trying new places to eat at and Asian cuisine is one of my all time favorites. Most of the times, the food is at least decent. SK was a huge let down. 😐

    • @LetsEatVegas

      Sorry to hear you had a bad experience. While I've found the service at SK to be less than wonderful (until you've been there enough that they know you), with over 20 visits to SK I've never had a bad food experience. Yes, I've ordered a few things which I didn't like, such as the honey walnut shrimp we discuss in the video, but the food has been remarkably consistent and high quality. I know first impressions are hard to shake, but maybe a second visit is in order? Well, thanks for watching and the feedback. It's much appreciated!
