I agree! I’ve been using the Commander ll and now lll’s for over ten years. That, coupled with a serious suspension upgrade front and rear, has made for very stable rides, even with the bike packed for two up on a three week trip. I had Progressive mono-tubes installed in the forks and Suspension Technologies adjustable rear shocks.
I just took commander 3s off n went back to Dulap American Elite. The Michellen 3s slipped 3 different times n the pucker power was more than I could handle.

Totally untrue never said they were the best, truth be told. I had to get the Metzler’s because at that time the Michelin’s weren’t available. if you have been a long time watcher of my channel, I’ve repeatedly said hundreds of times that my favorite tire was the Michelin commander threes. Sorry to disappoint you.
when you get free tires and there's a stack of them in your garage of course they will be the best. You tube influencers are entertainment. Don't confuse for anything else and everything will be ok. I'd probably do same if I got a free bike and unlimited amount of upgrades for free, I'd probably do the same. after all why would you put a suspension that's designed for occasional passenger if you ride solo. FREE.
@@CYCLEFANATIXI remember then you installed Metzelers you clearly stated that Commander 3 was your favorite tire! It’s mine as well. I just installed Metzeler CruiseTec and had to take off the front tire and put stock Dunlop back on because CruiseTec rode too rough. I’m going w Commander 3 next.
I’ve always run with the commander II’s. So when it was time for new tires, I put some commander III’s on my bike before taking an 8000 mile trip across the country. Those tires vibrated my feet and my hands between 65 and 85 mph. I had other work done on the bike, so I thought maybe something else was wrong but when I did some research I discovered that that is an issue with these III’s. I changed tires and no vibrations. Now I’m gun shy to go back to commanders.
I had those tires on my Roadking and loved them great grip in the rain and dry I’ll be installing them on my Indian once it’s few for tires. Question how did you like the Metzeler Cruise tech tires? I’m looking at those as well. Keep doing what you do I enjoy the Videos 👍🏽
I have the commander 2’s on my Dyna, I had dunlops before.. they were cracking and splitting, and I couldn’t grip well with the dunlops. Michelin’s are absolutely the way to go.
Yes, I tried the C3's a few years ago when they first came out. The rear tire was fine...put 15k on it. Went through 2 fronts...both out of round and vibrated terribly at highway speeds. I put on a Dunlop and was perfectly smooth. Not sure I'd try the C3's again...I know they had a bad run, but was burned twice.
John my man, i just replaced my oem tires with the Metzler Cruisetec tires. They're great tires, i run them on another bagger. But i do run the Michelin Commanders 2's on my other bagger. Great tires as well...
Michelin Commander 3 few months back ask your opinion what tires could you recommend me on Road glide that's right you recommended them 👍 Thank You John. Stock tires that come My Road Glide suck
Hi John, thanks for another great video! I’m about to buy tyres for my (just arrived) CVO ST, so this video had great timing for me. Any thoughts on why you picked the Touring version instead of the Cruiser version of the Commander 3? (I’m seeing online that the Cruiser model has even better handling and shorter stopping in the rain). Also, do you still like the tyres? Nothing funny so far? (I’ve seen people commenting on earlier gen commander 3 issues, I hope that’s all solved?). I had Cruisetecs on my FatBob and Michelin Road 6 on my K16B. Both were great, but the Michelins always gave me the best feeling, even in terrible weather conditions. Thanks! Maarten
First time I tried these about year ago I went through 2 front tires that were defective and found out they had a bad run of these and the front tires would give you a buzzing or vibration at certain speeds. After the second one I changed to the cruise tech . I ran the C2 on a dyna and streetglide and loved them but after the experience with the C3 I don’t know I’ll ever try them again especially the cost of these.
I had the same issue with the Commander 3, defective front tire (16"). Ran C2's for years and loved them. Just can't risk throwing money away again on C3's.
nice althernative would be Shinko 777, cheap and grippier at expense of short lifespan. Also one of the few brands offering them in 19 and 21 inch white wall. Anyway when it comes to tires - don’t be cheap. Best for long distance cruising and tread wear would be Metzler Cruise Tec, Michellin Commander III or even stock Dunlops American Elite
Shinko tires don't last! I cheaped out and changed to 777's Caught a roofing nail and found out how bad that rubber is when I tried to plug it just to push the bike. Changing both tires before I ride it again. Even if they cost less, the effort to change them twice, or the money to pay someone else, erases the savings. If you doubt what I'm saying, push a screwdriver into a 777, Then try it with a good tire. The good tire takes 5X more effort to puncture. I did this in the old tire pile. You might as well run tire tubes as far as I'm concerned! (Slight exaggeration)
Hey John I follow your videos from Switzerland 🇨🇭😊 and thank you for your posts... 💪🏻 The best tyre for my Street Glide and Road Glide is the Bridgestone BATTLECRUISE H50. I ride over 12,000 miles on the rear tyre and around 5,700 miles on the front. For me, this is the best tyre for my motorbikes. Do you know these tyres in America? Best regards Tom
Best Tires: Metzler Cruisetec - TBH I miss Mad Max. This one just not panning out for me... Mad Max was a piece of art... Get the new Trashin VVT cover is sick.
I always ran Michelin tires. The only one time that I didn’t was during Covid when I had to get the Metzler‘s because there was no other tire that was in stock. Are they good, yes, but not as good as the Michelin.
The Commander 3 is a awesome tire. I have 1k miles on mine and really like them. Much more grip. Had a little noise from fron tire at first, but that stopped after tire broke in.
I grind the floorboard mounts of my 2021 Street Glide Special with the stock Dunlop's and got 12K miles out of last set. They did so good I bought another set. I run Rosso Corsa 4's on my ZX14R and can barely tell the difference in twisties but the Harley makes more scraping noises.
Just put two new commander 3's on last Friday, already put 2k miles on em over the weekend, up to Kentucky to see the ark rode the dragon twice and back to work today😒
Damn son, thats a great looking bike! ( just bought one but white onyx) Love the factory seat but looking to upgrade it for a Saddlemen. Which model is yours? One last thing, how tall how are you? Im 6, just wondering it this one would be a good fit
Stock tires definitely suck, but I'm a Metzler guy for my touring bikes. Have Michelin on my BMW R9T but even when it's due for tires I'll probably stick with Metzler.
Hi John, Ive got a Low Rider ST. Do you think the Commander 3's would be a good tyre for that bike? Or are they better suited for the extra weight of the touring models. Would appreciate your feedback.
Good advice on the tires…when I need new ones I’ll get those thnx for the info….on another note I am wanting to change the rear break lever on my 2022 street glide st cuz it’s just too high above the floorboard and my foot is underneath it and is uncomfortable and awkward to use it…do you have a Thrashin supply one that is a bit lower and a bit more forward than stock? If so would you recommend that? Or what do you think of the ones that kuryakin makes if you are familiar? Your opinion would be appreciated thnx
I did like them, never said they were the best. At the time that’s what was available. The Michelin commander three tires I have always loved and felt most confident with
Great video as always John!! 💯🤘🏻!! Chrome wheels would look freaking awesome!! I gave you and Cam a big shout out on my latest video ( posted it on Monday) . Keep up the great work and ride safe 🇺🇸🤘🏻💯!!
At 66 I have been riding for well over 50+ years since back in Tennessee in the early 70s you could get a motorcycle license at 14. I have tried all of the major players in motorcycle tires and their versions from Avon,Dunlop,Michelin,Continental,Bridgestone,Pirelli and Metzeler. I run Metz on my Harley and also my KTM 1290 SDR. Best tires I have ever had, not even close. I will give up a few miles for the ride quality and handling characteristics. Here in the south tar snakes are sadly everywhere and I never liked the Commander line of tires. If you are running straight line interstate they are fine but that’s a boring way to travel. Last year I was out with a friend riding and one guy who was in the group had a pretty new Goldwing. When he pulled out I looked at his rear tire and I thought that looks like a damn car tire. At the next stop he confirmed it 😂. It looked really weird when he took some curves. I had heard of it but never actually seen it until then. Anyway, another good vlog, ride safe 👍
Nah C3 were FANTASTIC on my fatboy but shit on my road king Buzzing at 30mph on the front Many others experienced Broke loose super easy when wet.. I’ve had very good luck with oems in the wet. I have literally never heard anything good about those tires from anyone but you. It would take a lot for me to switch from Dunlop, and I have Michelin tires on all of my 4 wheel vehicles where they have a tire for that vehicle.
I put a set of commander 3 touring on my ‘19 road king special in 2020. I had a major vibration and checked the balance, I had the front tire replaced in Deadwood, ended up going back to the HD tires because of the issue. The vibration went away. The vibration would occur really bad about 50-55 mph. I even have a video of the vibration with the high pitch scream. Michelin worked with the dealer to take care of the tires. Do you know if they have made any changes to the tires since 2020?
Eh I have to disagree as the best. My experience with them wasn’t that great They had a weird vibration at about 30 mph and again at 60. (In a straight line) Supposedly they had it fixed and I tried again. Still had it. It’s Dunlap American Elites now. Love them and will never look back. Tires mean way too much !!!
I love to watch the chicken strips develop on my 200 MM Metzler, then I go find some twisties to burn them off. She always hooks up even when I get a little sideways and if you want to do a burn out you’ll need to have the bike more straight up … J. turns from a dead stop are a a no go… or get 75% thru the turn then drop the clutch rev it point that tire and hang on.
The commander 2 were great tires put 300k on those. The commander 3s aren’t as good. Had 3 front tires cup every time . Less miles on the back. The American elite is great. And last longer. Put 80k on these. You’ll get 18k on rear and 23k on fronts and no cupping.
I love the fact you use your bike, ride in all weather, and just love it!
I agree! I’ve been using the Commander ll and now lll’s for over ten years.
That, coupled with a serious suspension upgrade front and rear, has made for very stable rides, even with the bike packed for two up on a three week trip.

I just took commander 3s off n went back to Dulap American Elite. The Michellen 3s slipped 3 different times n the pucker power was more than I could handle.
I also lost grip with the commander 2 went to the Elite and never looked back. The Elite in my experience is the best of all tires
The Dunlap American Elite is the best and it’s made in America
That’s what I’m running and I love them
I have run the Dunlop American Elites for thousands of miles. Fabulous tire.
American Elites all the way. Made in America.

Big John, did you fill both tires with the Ride On-liquid wheel balance, as you’ve done before, as an xtra precaution?
No, I haven’t because I’m worried about the TPMS sensors, I did a little research, and some people say that it might mess them up
