I was there, we were surprised when John hit the stage with Eric Clapton and Yoko. John had admired all those old rockers on the bill like Chuck Berry who started it all. It was awesome, seeing the new Cold Turkey and other songs and Yoko screamed and freaked everyone out. They had a Hell's Angel escort to downtown Toronto' Varsity stadium
You see here’s the big difference between those of us who grew up with the Beatles and all these people who won day in the 1970s or 80s or 90s found their parents Beatle records and listen to them. Yeah they got all the beetle records all at once. And that’s not how it happened. That’s not even involving the singles that were in mono and that you heard on the radio and that you listen to on a mono record player. Those were the hits not all this totally separated stuff that you hear today that somebody has remixed and then somebody else’s remix again. This idea that we all found out about the Beatles break up with that press release by the way that was released to the press along with the McCartney album. And of course John was very angry about this. He went to George’s house and spoke to George without Yoko there! But, you have to understand what we knew then before yes before one more time, before that came out was with the release of the let it be album which was recorded before Abbey Road and came out after, and then an album called the Beatles again which fan started to called the Hey Jude album everybody call it that, You have to understand that there was speculation and it was in the newspapers it was spoken about that may be the Beatles were gonna break up because that album came out and there wasn’t anything about the Beatles recording in the studio making another album. So even though it’s probably not in these books written by people who did not grow up in that. Who did not listen to the Beatles who never knew the Beatles etc. it is true that we had an idea that they may be breaking up. Then there was talk of them coming out with individual albums. So this kind of gave you a sick feeling in your stomach that they weren’t together they weren’t recording they were working on individual albums and they hate Jude album was this strange compilation of Beatles songs. I mean let me tell you as a fan it didn’t make sense to me that I should’ve known better was on there but I’m down wasn’t. I mean you would think that they would have put on that album the Beatles singles that weren’t on any albums I mean that was the point of it for us to hear those songs again! So we had an idea that they either had broken up or were in the process of it or were thinking about it. And then the article came out in the paper across America. That was a Saturday morning my brother woke me up with it. It was in the morning paper. The worst picture of Paul McCartney I’ve ever seen accompanied that article. I still have it because somewhere I still have my Beatles scrapbook all full of tons of articles and pictures that were in print back then through the 60s and early 70s

Whilst side two is an acquired taste (🤮) , the first side is pretty good, especially when taking into consideration how quickly the players came together. All these years later I'm glad I brought it. This goes a long way toward justifying Paul’s lyric “You took your lucky break, and broke it in two.” From his “Ram” album, an extremely musical, melodious, artistic, virtuoso rocking album that is seen more and more favorably as decades roll on. Love John, but those 1000 acid trips didn’t do him well.
No one ever wants to say what a complete disaster that concert was. A young, new, musician could listen to that recording and hear what a mess it was. Money has the riff totally wrong. It’s off. The sound is totally distorted and all the musicians are just over playing. There aren’t any arrangements. But without a practice you can play tastefully. These guys don’t. The Yoko screaming is a signal, this is the John and Yoko future. No living being of any kind enjoyed that crying, screaming, off key noise, with its accompanying feedback!
I always liked side one on that album, apart from Ono’s clucking & wailing on Cold Turkey, but side 2 has always been a complete nonsense. Why Lennon allowed himself to be so controlled by that money grubbing, talentless pseud Ono I will never understand!
@@imemine6494 I don't think he was far wrong with his comment..... I, like millions of other followers of The Beatles probably often wonder, would The Beatles have carried on if Yoko hadn't been on the scene? It's definitely a topical debate.

I say that Yoko's yodeling bit with guitar feedback was the highlight of the entire show. All the other bands were sooooooooo jealous.
Bought the album. One of the few in England. Second side is still in mint condition
Mine too, Peter!!
The only album I have of theirs is a test pressing of The White Album.. I bought it from a second hand shop in Bristol UK.
LOL!
Same here with mine
Funny yeah, mine too.
Played the second side twice. First time when I bought it. Then, several years later, loud to annoy the neighbours
I tuly believe the second side was made specifically for dogs.
