One of Lionel’s best offerings in the past 3-4 years, the new tooling efforts that they did really give the premium look that these locomotives deserve.
I believe Dave Olson recently indicated that Lionel used the prior Lionel tooling for these M1s. Some had been speculating that they used former MTH tooling.
@@irishrifle1 that is correct, they just heavily modified the M1A tooling to give us accurate and detailed M1s. It’s always nice when they invest in new toolings.
These are very cool but one thing I notice on the M1b with the 16 wheel coast to coast tender is that the tender lettering is a tad bit too high.

@@irishrifle1 It wouldn’t have made sense if Lionel bought MTH’s PRR M-1 tooling if they already had their own.

In the catalog the engines are 054, but some of the tenders are 054, and some are 072.
(Lionel says O54 for 4 and 6 wheel trucks on tender;
O72 for 8 wheel truck tenders) - thanks
