Team Russell I work in a big grocery store and our sauce is with the dry pasta and we only sale beer by the 6pk 12pk or 24pk and we can only sale it at 7am tell 230am and on Sundays 12pm to 7pm here in Greenwood ind usa

In Russian stores I was surprised that on the price tags you see the real price you will pay at the checkout. They will also give you a discount
Stores MUST sell the product at the price indicated on the price tag. Even if the promotion has ended, the product is already more expensive, an error has occurred. There is a high fine for refusal.

'Pyaterochka' is a typical budget store in Russia, it literally means 'Lil Five' and they are literally everywhere. I live in a small town of 15k people and we have three of those here.

Кстати насчёт малого количества людей в магазинах. Во первых их(магазинов) очень много и они как правило работают до полуночи или вообще круглосуточно. Так что не обязательно бежать в магазин что бы что то купить. В Европе многие магазины не работают в выходные дни и время работы заметно меньше чем в России. Это мне напоминает годы СССР когда магазин закрывался примерно в 7 вечера. У меня около дома магазин "Пятёрочка" работает круглосуточно и без выходных и праздников.

И российские розницы это очень хороший пример - заслуга относительно доступных цен в сетях в первую очередь в том, что на персонале экономят, на персонал спихивают недостачу, перечень обязанностей у работников обычно больше, чем упоминается при устройстве, а ещё они раз в 3 - 4 месяца все дружно должны бесплатно остаться сверхурочно для проведения инвентаризации.

Around the Capitol this is easy. Go try a store in the far east.
In Scotland, this type of supermarket size and range would probably come under a Metro format, bigger than convenience but not quite Supermarket. Very clean store with a great range of products for the size of the store. I Like the small seating area next to the coffee maker, you can sit and have a cuppa when waiting for the train.
I agree that a place to drink coffee and even eat something is very nice. In Poland you won't find anything like this in supermarkets.
There are 22 grocery stores near my house, 15 minutes walk away, including 4 stores such as in this video. I've met Russell with a camera a few times)
Same in Canada. This type of supermarket is like "Rabba Fine Foods" stores in Canada. Somewhere between a typical grocery store and a local convenience store. Rabba stores operate 24/7 and never close, but also demand premium convenience pricing. Large grocery "SuperStores" in Canada would hold 20 or more of this typical Russian grocery store.
Looks fine but I would miss the supermarket's in England if I was there.

Сети сейчас повсюду. У меня в новгородской области дача, посёлок на 2 тысячи человек. Там и магнит и пятерочка, по ассортименту ничем от городских магазинов не отличаются. Хоть и удобно, но малый бизнес жалко. До прихода сетей все всё покупали в местных магазинчиках, теперь же почти весь траффик идёт через два сетевых супермаркета.

Это устройство называется овоскоп , по санитарным нормам России он должен находиться в каждом магазине где продаются яйца. Чтобы покупатель при желании лично убедился в качестве яиц.
A few years ago, such devices became mandatory in Russia in all stores where eggs are sold. If there is no such device, then this is a violation of the licensing conditions.

I have never seen an egg candleing machine anywhere in the United States. I had to make one using a coffee can and a lightbulb when we were incubating our own chicken eggs. I sure would have liked to use one like that. As always, I enjoy all of your videos and a peek into life on a different continent.

@@vladimirpvm128well... yes I have never seen a machine in the US like that in a store. They check at a factory that puts the eggs in the cartons. On a wierd tangent note a lot of the quail eggs here sold in stores are fertilized and you can hatch a bird if you put them in a warm place.
These machines are in the shop according to the standards. I've never seen anyone use it in my life
It blows me away everytime... how clean everything is!!! Stores in my area are NOT that clean. I dont shop at stores that often. We grow alot, eat whats in season & buy from local farmers.

Easy to keep clean when hardly anyone comes to the store. Employees typically appear to outnumber the shoppers in these videos. And tiny amounts of items being bought by sparse purchaser.

Ещё популярная тема про образование, школы, цены на всё это! Рекомендую подумать. До СВО были очень популярные стоматологические и медицинские туры из Европы в Россию. Иностранцы ходили на лечение и путешествовали по основным достопримечательностям и это вместе с перелётом, проживанием и сопровождением дешевле чем за границей полечиться.

I have four supermarkets in my little town and a super Wal-Mart. Pricrs are a lot higher in my area of East Tennessee than in Russis. I was surprised. I am so glad to learn the people of that area have the availability of so much. God bless them.
Not only prices, but also the average income of residents is lower than in the USA. So I suppose the purchasing power is comparable

Each has their upsides, plus if you have time you can check them all and buy stuff by discounts only saving a bit.

@@ghos7bear если я не ошиблась, то вы русскоговорящий (по нескольким видео с русским названием); так что проясню ситуацию: я часто хожу в пятерочку и другие магазины, просто хотела сказать именно то, что лет 10 назад у многих людей были предрассудки, мол в этих новых супермаркетах все некачественное и мало выбора; да и я раньше так же думала, отдавая предпочтение обычным продуктовым магазинам у дома; сейчас супермаркетов стало намного больше, следовательно, и выбора больше, и обстановка в них располагающая - все изменилось в лучшую сторону :)

The dollar general by my house, here in the fantastic mid west is always out of different items, the roof is leaking, they keep replacing the ceiling tiles, puddles of water on the floor and the homeless people around the neighborhood keep stealing the shopping carts.

Kroger in Texas and Publix in Florida are very well equipped but extremely crowded and expensive

Про пенсию московских пенсионеров надо кричать при повышении цен в Пятёрочках, которую он показал, за время войны и санкций на 100-200% вверх, пенсия ныне 24.000= т.е. 240 евро!! не в день! В МЕСЯЦ! при цене продуктов сопоставимых с Германией, Польшей и Странами Балтии! ГРАЖДАНЕ ЭТИХ СТРАН! Сравните ваших пенсионеров пенсии и смешные россиян!

As a moscovite I must say that pyatyorochka has almost the same prices as magnit. I even have to say that very often prices in pyaterochka are lower than in magnit. I have 2 magnit and 3 pyaterochka in my area, one magnit is 3 min from my home.
but in general their price category is the same. Just marketing battle between two retail giants
Yes I agree but for some reason I can always find what I want in magnit in my region. I do think pyat stores look more clean and fresh though.
@@RussianTravels yeah I agree, but there's one exception: there are some magnit that are big and new, they are very clean with vast assortment. Same stands for new pyaterochkas as in this video.
But magnit near my house is very little and dirty sometimes.
Anyways, I've never experienced such an abundance of food and shops 😂 especially after living in Italy half my life (except that the quality of some products there is much higher).

As an American having lived in various locations over my lifetime, it would be pointless for me to try to compare past with present, but, having said that, it is astonishing to me the variety of items and varying choices within those categories as displayed in your Russian supermarket tours. Until recently I resided in New York City and the markets there were frustratingly small and cramped - probably because of excessively high rents in the City. In other areas of the country I didn't experience that same space problem, but nevertheless the variation in choices did not match what I've observed in your video tours. I am surprised and astonished - would have never expected it. And No, I've never seen an egg-checker as shown toward the end of your video - of any type. The only check I've known of is physically opening an egg carton and checking for cracked eggs.
Most modern egg producers have machinery that do that light test before packaging
Yes of course and you don't see that everything costing more than $3 is locked up or with just a picture that you have to go tell someone behind bullet proof glass to go get for you. You also don't see the cultural enrichment running up and down the aisles stuffing items into pillow cases then running out the store. How backward Russia must look to you enlightened American senses.

There is a chain of Russian supermarkets in the US. It is called NetCost. I'm not sure if the stores are available in all regions. I know they are in the "Tri-State" area and in Pennsylvania...

A typical supermarket in Russia has a huge selection of goods available only in a small number of supermarkets in Poland (e.g. Kaufland, Spar, Chata) or only in hypermarkets. Most supermarkets in Poland are discount stores (Lidl, Biedronka) where there is not a large selection of goods.
The grocery store I work in doesn't have caring baskets because the customers stole all of them.

In Russia they usualy stil standard big shoping carts. You can find couple of that carts in every car repair shop or every metal scrap junk yard. And no they dont by this carts

I live in Russia in a medium-sized city. Not far from my house (the farthest is within 600-700 meters) there are 4 supermarkets of three different chains (Spar, Pyaterochka, Victoria) which are a little larger than the one in the roller and the products never run out there. It’s honestly strange for me to read that in Britain you may not be able to find some product in a store.
Well, as for simple life here, like everywhere else, it all depends on the person.
Good to see and hear what life and food shopping is like in Russia.
It almost makes me want to move there, the UK is in a real mess at the moment

In UK all supermarkets have more variety of products and far better quality than in Russia ! And surprisingly for any Brit that prices in Russia are actually mostly higher than in UK
@@abdulmazari9885 when I look at the prices, they are lower than in the Czech Republic, for example the mentioned beer is 50% more expensive here. A shot of sweet pastries in Russia, the pie in the upper right corner costs 35 rubles, in the Czech Republic it comes out to 136 rubles after conversion. We have bread very similar here 145 rubles in Russia 65 rubles. They have butter for 160 rubles, here it is 160-200 rubles. Overall, their prices are much lower. They have fish products at really ridiculous prices. I didn't compare the meat, I couldn't see the weight, the type of meat. the chocolates from the beginning of the video were also about 50-70% cheaper.
@@KorbenDalasCZ you see cheap food products in Russia like bread, meat pastes , sausages, e t c are made out of low quality wheat that is only used as animal feed in EU and meat products are made of chemical and additives tat are not allowed for consumption for humans and that’s why even life expectancy in Russia is on average 20 years shorter than in Europe ! It’s easy to understand that it is impossible to make 100 g meat pastry 10 times cheaper than actual cost of 100 g of meat ! It’s made out of crap with no meat in it at all ! So as any other products in Russia !
Often frozen veggies can be of better quality than fresh as they are picked and packed at their peak instead of early to allow for shipping.
Fair enough. For my wife and I we literally only have Pelmeni in the freezer and sometimes some ice cream. If we buy vegetables, its normal for the day or two when we are going to cook them.

@@GoodFella-wi7gw It depends on what you cook. Frozen veggies go well into all kinds of soups and pastry. Аnd soups are a very popular meal in Russia. There's quite a variety of them. They are definitely a no-no for the salads :) Same with fruits. If you bake pies, make jellies or compotes - frozen and dried ones are good enough. If you want a crunchy apple you get a fresh one :) The most popular veggies and fruits never go frozen though. I've never seen frozen apples, grapes or oranges and well as frozen cucumbers or tomatoes. But plenty of frozen haricots, sprouts, spinach, diced pumpkin, veg mixes for different soups and stews, diced pinapple, sour cherries, raspberry, strawberries, buckthorn berries etc

Need to convert prices to kilos vs pounds. Kilo is 2.2 lbs. Another thing is prices as marked and there’s no extra tax charge at checkout like here in USA.

Upstate NY here. I am impressed by the selection and surprised to see many brands I am familiar with. And the prices are a fraction of what they are here. Paper towels he said were 2.00 here are 8-10.00. Bread was 1/4 price.

I like the 'basket holding carts'. Here in a typical store with baskets you are forced to carry your baskets around the store, which is very inconvenient if you are buying a couple of baskets worth of items. I think the reason they don't have them here, is because carts are stolen quite often, even the larger ones are removed from the parking lot (they have security locks on them some places). I think the store looks very clean and utilitarian, reminds me a bit of a Save-A-Lot store here in the states. I remember when I was young a pair of missionaries came to my local church with images of grocery stores during Gorbachev's time as leader and the shelves were bare and there were long lines for basic items. I am happy to see the country having more prosperity that benefits the citizens of Russia, I am quite fascinated by all of the similarities between our two cultures as well as the differences.

Магазинов в каждом районе настолько много, что это неудивительно.
В моём районе (можайский) в 10 минутной доступности: 2 магнита, 3 пятерочки, 2 КБ, 1 Ярче, 1 БиМ, несколько продуктовых без названия и огромный Ашан. // 8 продуктовых в 10 мин доступности 😂
+ помимо двух КБ еще что то есть но я нечасто по ним хожу.
UPD: я пересчитал, оказывается у нас ещё вкусвилл открылся и дикси есть. Получается 10 продуктовых в пределах 10 мин от дома 😁

Every American should be questioning and upset at what is going on here in the USA - there's no real reason why we are seeing prices for food at double, triple or even 4 times the price of what we're being shown here today - this could be propaganda but I really do not think so. Thank you Russell for sharing. Eggs for example for a dozen are at least $3 USD and those are the Grade A medium ones - a very good egg but if you want the "cage free" or want other stamps on the carton they can easily be $5-$6 a dozen.

As to the huge price differences ... you should compare them to the respective income.
An interesting fact is the products at 28:05 are not 'pasta sauces' :) Those are minced tomatoes.

The utility bills are actually much lower too. You have to mention that when talking about the price of living in Russia. I pay 90e for a 86m2 flat in Moscow. That's maintenance, water and unlimited heating included (average temperature in the flat in winter/autumn/spring is 23-25c). My electricity bill is about 7,5e a month. My house has gas but I installed an electric cooker and an electric oven. So 7,5e is for all the electricity consumption a month (lights, computer, cooking, washing machine, dishwasher, fridge etc). And I work from home so I spend a lot of time there so the light is mostly on. If I use aircon in summer the bill is about 10-15e per month. Petrol is 0,55e. The public transport is 0,6e per one go independent of the milage. It's free for the pensioners. I spend about 200e on grocery a month and don't actually limit myself. 100mb internet is 9,5e per month. Mobile phone is 10e per month. So yeah, a teacher with 800e salary can pretty much afford these prices. And the babushkas mostly do too. Don't forget that many people including babushkas actually own their real estate. So they don't have to pay rent or mortgage.

Посмотрел один - увидел все. Могут быть некоторые различия в размерах площади магазина и товарах .
В больших магазинах есть дополнительные товары , но все основные товары рдинаковы.

Today the Ruble to USD is 89.99 to $1 USD - prices look to be very nice. The size of this store seems to be about twice the size of an Aldi or about 2/3rds the size of most US supermarkets. Interesting to see the varied selection of foods both preserved and fresh - I have no doubt that there are wide differences in quality of the different brands....
Always find it funny seeing Whiskas and Dreamies in places like this.
Live UK and while the prices (6 dollars for Stoli) sound amazing wonder what general cost of living is - after bills go out I have to economise big time.
The cost of living is peanuts compared to the UK. My monthly utlities bill in Moscow is typically under £20 (this includes, heating, water bill, broadband internet, and 100 TV channel package). I would stress that heating and hot water are on 24/7 for most months of the year as well - due to the cold winters.
Also the quality of the internet and reliability of most services is way better (in Moscow) than in the UK. In 9 years I've only lost internet access for about 20 minutes (due to some minor electricity maintenance being performed in my building - which residents were given advanced warning about).
Running a car is far cheaper in Russia (than in the UK) and you'd struggle to find any measure by which the Moscow Metro is not better than the equivalent in London.
If you'd have asked me 10 years ago, I would have said typical grocery prices in Russia and the UK were about the same, but these days (after the events of the last 2 years), I would say that your weekly shopping bill would be quite a bit less in Russia now, than in the UK.
General cost of living is low in Russia. An average monthly bill across the country is $60.
Живём в частном доме 200м² 3 человека + 2 кота в 100 км от Москвы. Вода , газ , газовое отопление , электричество , городская канализация , оптический интернет + 110 каналов ТВ всё вместе сейчас зимой обходится ~ 8000 ₽ что по сегодняшнему курсу ~ 71 фунт стерлингов
Моя семья платит две ипотеки, но это скорее вложение средств, потому что на жизнь уходит меньше половины заработка. Обычно у русских квартиры в городе и домик за городом, дача называется у нас, 87% имеют своё жильё, но многие по 2-3. Квартплата 40-50$, но многие считают что государство должно платить, как-то было у родителей))) при коммунистах)) и моя подруга совсем не платит)) и есть целые объединения людей, кто не платит квартплату, выселить не имеют право.
по сравнению с Великобританией в России цены на все ниже, но надо учитывать, что и зарплаты россиян ниже.
