  • What to See & Do in Malta. From the crystal clear waters to the Capital Valletta with St. John's Co-Cathedral to the historic capital Mdina to scuba diving at WWII wrecks there is so much to see and do in Malta. The food is amazing with rabbit, drinking some local wines and just enjoying the friendly people. Whether you are on vacation, holiday or working Malta is a nice place to be.

We went to Malta on our honeymoon 20 years ago. We have very fond memories of the place. It is like Europe Lite: it is faintly exotic and historical with tons of interesting places to see, but it was a British colony for a long time so it has all the modern conveniences and shops like Boots Chemists (drugstore), English-language book stores and a great bus system. Most people speak English. There is fabulous, fresh seafood, Italian food with English sweets and baked goods. The local wine was crappy when we were there but you can also get wines from anywhere else in the world.

Couple of things you didn't mention
Mosta has a beautiful Basilica known as the Rotunda. Well worth a visit, especially if you like Baroque. You can climb up the dome and get not only a view of the town but also the inside of the church. There is even a WW2 bunker you can visit. It was bombed in WW2 when 400 worshippers were praying but the bomb didn't explode. The shell is still on display.
There is a lovely arts& craft market housed in a former RAF base in the centre of the Island, not far from the National Football (soccer) stadium that is well worth a visit. Across the road is a small air museum, housing mainly WW2 & cold war aircraft. One has special significance for me. Near where I live in England is a former RAF hospital. The "gate guard" was a RAF Meteor jet that also saw service in Malta. That jet is there.

I was born in MALTA & emigrated from the Island at age 17, ,I go visit the Island cause of Family relatives & friends , & we were always satisfied with it's culture , FOODS , FEASTS , THE SEA , HISTORY , & TOURING THE ISLAND 'S OLD BUILDINGS .. AS A HOLIDAY IT'S FANTASTIC, & Living there for Retirement , BUT IT Changed a lot from the olden times I knew in my childhood .. IT GOT Far to crowded now, for the size of the island , & the traffic it's hectic , & Property Real Estate & renting , too high. BUT IT'S WORTH TO VISIT IT , at Least once in your life time for a minimum of 4 week to 6 weeks
    .

I went to Malta hoping to see something related to Corto Maltese, whom I thought was the national hero of Malta. Turns out that nobody ever heard of him. But I still had a great trip: the Pantheon-like church was awesome and the rabbit tasted extraordinary. Anyway thanks for the video Wolters World, you must be having an amazing adventurous life!

This was extremely useful for the planning of my recent trip to Malta. I would have my number 10 be the Catacombs in Rabat. I went to four separate ones within a quarter of a mile of each other. St. Paul's Grotto is part of those sites and it is worth a visit.

Love Malta - the Blue Lagoon is on Comino not the Blue Grotto but I agree with the places you mentioned which are also fab but I would also have to include Popeye Village and the absolutely fab and incredibly colourful gardens called San Anton Palace and Gardens which were at their best in Spring when we went last.

Il-pastizzi are the ones I most love. I also love Il-Ftira Maltija. I live in Mosta, near the Mosta Dome (Ir-Rotunda). Apart from the Temples and the Hypogeum, Valletta and Mdina people can visit the Mosta Dome (3rd largest dome in Europe), Ghar il-Kbir (a big cave) and other beautiful caves.

I would suggest a visit to the Craft Village at T'Qali, the site of an old RAF Station during and after WW2, where you can see lace making, filigree metal work and glassware, but remember to take plenty of money

Great Video. The difference between Malta and Gozo has always been there somehow (over built/rural/dialect differences/attitudes of people etc) long before joining the EU :) blue lagoon as compared to Blue grotto needs to be checked as noted. There are a couple of sandy beaches that people die to visit (Ghadira near Mellieha and Ramla Bay in gozo). Still a nice video, all credits to you. There are many small things left out azure window which is doomed to fall any time soon. Village Festas (colourful christian celebrations). Citadelle in Gozo (similar to mdina but much smaller extensively restored in 2016) and much more. you can get a lot of info at hotels though.

Comino has the BLUE LAGOON, not the blue grotto. However, the Blue Grotto is on the south side of Malta, and worth going to as well! ;) You defiantly could spend a month here exploring all there is...you just barely scratched the surface! And to your viewers - it is usually only windy in the Spring. From mid May to October we have HOT DRY days, with the bluest of skies! Welcome to our islands!

    also:
free discoes and very cheap drinks in Paceville
    shopping in sliema
    Dwejra window in Gozo
    Popeye Village
Citadel in Gozo (sort of Mdina)
    Cottonera (three cities)
Marsaxlokk with picturesque bay with Maltese boat: luzzu
Village religious feasts with ground and air fireworks all summer (Some villages have better feasts than others)
Blue grotto in Zurrieq, as well as views of filfla. Nearby the megalithic temples of Hagar Qim and Mnajdra.
    Fort Rinella in Kalkara
Free events like Birgu by candlelight (in my opinion the best one), winefestivals, Notte bianca, Medieval Mdina, Beer festival, Isle of MTV.
Mosta Dome (one of the largest unsupported domes in the world)
and not to mention in my opinion the best value for money food I have ever had. as well as our own cuisine.
(By the way, Blue lagoon is in comino. Blue grotto is in Zurrieq. Grotto is a cave, blue lagoon is the bay you saw.)

I have to disagree with you there...though generally yes most are accepted...I think brown/dark brown people are still looked at, in a different way over there. I went with my bf - though I didn't really get looked at much, but he got stared at properly. Everywhere we went, they would stare at him. I don't know if it's because of the whole African immigrants, battling their ways into Malta. But the look was not because they were intrigued either. Lovely country, Enjoyed the Food but will not be going back for sure..

+Sheri For hahaha I was stationed in Malta fifty years ago when it was very much a British Crown Colony - Very quiet, very peaceful. It was said in those days that the Maltese were more Roman than the Pope and I must admit, the people were very devout. lots of Feast Days, street processions and fireworks.
English is widely spoken although the older folk were more familiar with Italian during my time there and country people had little use for English in their everyday lives. Maltese is a semitic language written in a modified Latin alphabet.
I loved my time on Malta - such a long history - Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs, Normans, Spaniards, The Knights of St John, the French and the British have all left an imprint on the Maltese Islands.
I hope you have a great holiday.

I live in malta and the thing I like most is the history. We were under phoenician, carthaginain, roman, arab, norman ,byzanthine and aragonese rule . Then we were ruled by the knights of st john the french and the brittish.

Joao Vieira so podias ser português !! Everyone please ignore this shit comment, he doesnt know what hes talking about.. as a portuguese born and raised i apologize on his behalf. Unfortunately theres still some portuguese (ignorant) people that thinks that europe belongs to white
people and they forget that white people are invading África too and they are more than welcome there though.
