    Thank you for the video, Lachlan. I'll definitely check out some of those sources.
    I rather enjoy Dr. Bowen and Professor Ehrman.
    Sometimes, I'll watch Michael Licona, because he tries to approach the truth of the Bible through scholarship and not inerrancy, though I don't always agree with him.

    Please do let me know what channels you enjoy watching!
    And yes, there are probably some of your favourite channels that didn't make the list (for various reasons). That doesn't mean I don't like them or I think they're bad. But these are the channels I would recommend as an introduction into the world of critical academic Biblical studies.

    The shout-out is much appreciated, Lachlan.
    If I may contribute another suggestion, Dr. Ryan M Armstrong has some entertaining videos with a great sense of humor. He just needs to upload more often!

    Nice channels, what about Michael Heiser, Ben Stanhope and InspiringPhilosophy? I think they are among the best

    • @js1423
      @js1423 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I was surprised by the lack of Ben Stanhope. Lachlan seems to be a more liberal person, so he's probably not interested in the more maximalist, apologetics-based work by IP or Dr. Heiser. Not saying their bad, but he seems to prefer some scholars to others.

      I tend not to pay as much attention to channels that talk about apologetics or counter-apologetics. I have nothing bad to say about anyone for whom that's their project/interest, all power to them. But I'm interested in an evidence-based "text in its ancient context" approach, and so that's what I'm going to recommend.

    • @pleaseenteraname1103
      @pleaseenteraname1103 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TabletsAndTemples yeah Michael S Heiser is definitely the least apologetics out of all of them.

    could you do a part 2? There was a channel I used to watch -- tall, slightly balding guy with glasses, maybe early 50's. His channel name was 4 letters, each letter stood for something else. Did a lot of early church stuff and knew ancient languages. He made me mad and I blocked his channel. Very bad idea because while it's possible to unblock a person, there's no way to unblock a channel. So he won't even show up in my searches now. None of Wannabe_Scholar's suggestions are it. TIA!!

    • @TabletsAndTemples

      I can see Ben has some interesting stuff, I'll have to check him out closer. But speaking generally there are a lot of channels out there that are a mix of Biblical studies and also apologetics/counter-apologetics. I have nothing against that, but it's not my area of interest. My focus was on recommending content that was academic Biblical studies on its own terms and could give people a good solid introduction to that world.

    You’d still recommend Bart Ehrman even though he’s a staunch atheist?

    • @TabletsAndTemples
      @TabletsAndTemples  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is not a confessional channel. It is about Biblical scholarship. The content is about an evidence-based approach to studying the Bible in its ancient context. Bart Ehrman's a great scholar!

    I've definitely found good stuff on the academic biblical subreddit but, just like Reddit as a whole, it is often insufferable. It attracts a lot of jaded people who have an axe to grind against this or that theological view, all the whole pretending like they are just neutral researchers, leaving theology and culture war stuff to the side.
