Vince is one of the most humble players I know of. Also knew Paul Jabara who was a wonderful songwriter.

Always enjoy your visits. A little info on Pretty Little Adriana. Vince Gill wrote this in honor of a 12 year old girl, Adriane Dickerson, who, on October 1sr 1995 was crossing a store parking lot from the car where she had gone to get a quarter for the gum ball machine, when she was caught in the crossfire of a gang shooting and died from a shot to the chest. It was a tragic event that rocked Nashville and Vince, being Vince, was emotionally touched by it enough to write this song. Vince is, as you point out, a treasure, and so are you. Thank you for the stories and the Master Classes.

@@lelandsklar6363 : I saw Vince Gill on tour for "When Love Finds You" Not sure whether you were on the road with him at the time, but I do remember him telling Adriana's story at the concert. Of course it led me deeper into "High Lonesome Sound". As a songwriter, I love knowing where the songs came from, even when the stories are tragic.

I don’t know how anyone could stand up after a tragedy of such magnitude. My daughter and her family live in the Nashville area and my son in law have been involved with the Vince Gill golf tournament and I’ve heard nothing but praise about the Gill family.
      Thanks for the videos.
I remember seeing your name on the album liner notes on Jackson Browne albums a long time ago, hell, a lifetime ago. Thanks again

I saw Vince perform a tribute to a friend of his who had taken his own life. The names all escape me as is wont to happen as I get older. If anyone wants to see Vince's real emotion on display, that song was definitive. He couldn't sing for the tears he was shedding.
I must be on some sort of vibe with you, Lee, because it was just yesterday that I posed a couple of questions to you about Vince. No need for you to answer them. Your comments about Vince and that song about Adriana answered them mezzo forte. Thanks for telling us of your shared emotion with other musicians. That is "the rest of the story".

    Dear Mr. Sklar
When I first picked up the bass in the late 70ties, you were one of my major inspirations.
You still are… and now on a daily basis. How great is that? Thank you :-)
I love how you’re playing is always about the song - never about you.
The world needs more people with your attitude.
Now… if you feel like revisiting Phil Collins, I wouldn’t mind ’Two Hearts’ from the Berlin show. The groove you have going with Chester Thompson brings a smile to my face everytime. And those runs you do in the last chorus are… not all that easy to copy. Talk about chops!
Keep resisting - and keep safe.
    Fond greetings from Copenhagen

I fell asleep at a Vince Gill concert. It was not his fault. My husband had died shortly before (like a month ) I saw Vince, and I was not sleeping. My daughter and I went to the concert, I guess I got relaxed and fell asleep.
    Love from Iowa,

Dear Leland, I can't tell you how much I enjoy your daily musings, reminiscing and of course the playing.
This Vince Gill recording demonstrates perfectly how you are capable to keep things simple and yet completely support the song, because that is exactly what the song requires. Many a fellow bass player would succumb to the temptation of trying to make their part a little more interesting with some more intricate patterns etc. You however just throw in the occasional flourish, just enough to accentuate things where necessary. And that, sir, is why I (and so many others) admire you deeply.
What is also pleasing to me is that you confirm my opinion of the dearly missed Carlos V, when comparing his "feel" to that of the great Porcaro. I discovered Carlos far too late, because I discovered JT far too late (no worries; I made up for it), but when I did -thanks to JT's live album-, I clearly recall me immediately reaching for the sleeve notes to learn who the drummer was, as he reminded me so of Jeff's playing!. The world lost those 2 uber-talented cats far too soon!!!!
Anyway, love your work, love your YT postings, keep both of them coming please!. Stay humble, stay inspiring, stay safe. Rock on!

Enjoying hearing your stories and your playing, and reminding me of how I enjoyed working on jingle tracks for Budweiser with you. I have a Vince Gill story: I had hired my friend, Ray Benson of Asleep at The Wheel to broker/arrange/compose a Budweiser track with The Sweethearts of The Rodeo. Janice Gill and her sister (?) were to meet us for a rehearsal at S.I.R. practice studios in Nashville on the night before the session. Vince Gill showed up in place of his then wife, Janice, because she had voice problems, and Vince volunteered to cover her parts and then teach them to her in the morning before the session, as a way to give her voice a needed rest. He also wanted to hang out with Ray. Lucky me. I got to work with him in the rehearsal and then was invited to have dinner and hang with him and Ray afterwards for a couple hours at a nearby restaurant. What a sweet guy and open and friendly personality, beyond his superior musical talents and generous working soul. This was in maybe 1986?

The bass is so simple for most of the tune. But I love those very quick flourishes that you throw in. It's almost like there'll never be enough room for 'em and that surely you'll run out of time, but somehow, you make them fit. Very smooth indeed; I was impressed. Signed, the other Lee.
