- I made this offset plate for the traditional Chinese woodworking marking gauge that I had made the previous video. It was inspired to me while I was making angled mortise and tenon for a 四腿八叉 stool that I was making. I was inspired to realize that I could layout the entire project using one setting on the marking gauge; all I had to do was to shift the position of the marking gauge by offsetting the proper amount based on the angle.

Why does the marking gauge have four cutters on it? I watched the previous video but I don't quite understand how it's meant to be used. I know that's the subject of the next video but I think I must've missed something obvious.
Next week. I am going to show you how to layout angled mortise and tenon using just one setting on the mortise and tenon. Imagine using the 4 cutters to make the 4 sides of a tenon, or dual tenons.
