Nice work my friend.. this is just the starting for your greater glory, looking forward to see more projects of yours.. and congrts to Arun Dev and Yadhu Krishnan.. Good work team..
Amazing Video !! I liked the History and the rail route from Palakkad Junction Railway Station to Pollachi Junction. Hope Palakkad will get more Long Route Express Trains to North / West / Central Part of India via Palakkad Town Railway Station soon.
Very well done....Absolutely wonderful Abhijeet & company. The liking increases manifold if someone has indeed travelled in this section when it was the metre gauge. It brought back memories when I used to travel in this section to go to Pazhani.
Sir , thanks for this great documentary it is a very emotional moment for me too as this line is very crucial to our nation's economy , tourism and this has a very great potential in the future
An unique and fantastic documentary culminating into the revelation of the history of Railways circumscribed to the concerned section. Salute to the innovative makers of the documentary and it shall be dilettantish if the commentary indited and narrated is not complimented. Thanks for the spledid documentary sirs
Madan Menon Thottasseri 20 December,2015 · Shared with Public (FaceBook) I am extremely happy to see the video of the BG train's historical journey commenced on 19th November,2015 after the gauge (MG to BG). Palakkad - Pollachi stretch was the last pending part of the Palakkad - Pollachi - Dindigul section under the conversion project. In fact I had plans to come down to my home town Palakkad while the said line was opened for traffic. Unfortunately I could not make it since I was held up at Chennai due to certain professional constraints. The significance of the Palakkad - Kollengode - Pollachi - Udumalaipet- Palani - Dindigul BG line is enormous mainly due to the fact that it creates direct rail link between Central Tamil Nadu to West Coast cities - Goa, Mumbai etc via. Palakkad, Kozhikkode, Mangalore etc( through Konkan Railway from Mangalore). Introduction of train service in the Palakkad - Dindigul section will create opportunity for Southern railway to operate trains even between Rameswaram and New Delhi - via. Dindigul - Pollachi - Palakkad - Shoranur - Kozhikkode - Mangalore - Margoa - Mumbai - Surat - Ahmedabad - Jaipur ( of course other routes are there between Mumbai and N.Delhi). Probably with in a decade, the whole section of Konkan Railway will have double line to facilitate introduction of additional trains from Tamil Nadu/Kerala.Thus we can certainly expect busy rail traffic in years to come. Southern Railway must initiate for laying more entry line in Palakkad Junction connected with Signals and facilitate introduction of adequate number of trains in the Palakkad Jn.- Pollachi - Dindigul sector with immediate effect. All trains in the section must originate/terminate ( except the up and down Amrita Link Express) at Palakkad Junction, not at Palakkad Town. Since the BG line from Pollachi reaches Palakkad junction through the western side, the engine has to be shunted to the rear side of the train for hauling towards Shournur/Thrissur . Thus it is desirable to have a loopline towards the Parali station immediately after the ‘Kavilppadu’ area between Palakkad Town and Palakkad Junction. To avoid the waste of time in changing the engine, trains can be made to run through the loopline and can be brought backwards to the platform in the Palakkad Junction. Goods trains that need not come to Palakkad junction can be directed through the loopline towards Shoranur/Thrissur. As the entire Dindigul - Palani - Udumalaipet - Polachi - Kollengode - Palakkad section is not electrified, change-over to electric engine can be done at Palakkad Town itself, especially for those Goods Trains which bypass Palakkad Junction. Since train services are resumed in the Palakkad - Pollachi section, there will be traffic jams at many roads where there are level crossings, especially at the road towards Yakara and at the Kollengode - Palakkad/ Chittur road at Oottara, near the Kollengode railway station. Kerala government as well as Local bodies can take initiative to collaborate with Southern Railway for the construction of over-bridges to overcome the adverse situation of traffic-jams. I remember that there the local forums likes the ‘Vikasana Munnani; in Kollengode had campaigned for an over0bridge at Oottara in the last month itself. I really congratulate for their spirit to campaign and present their demanding need for an over-bridge as the traffic saturated road towards Palakkad will get further chocked by frequent closure of the level crossing whenever trains pass through Kollengode. A news clipping in respect of the public demonstration under the banner of ‘Vikasana Munnani’, demanding an overbridge instead of the manned level crossing at Oottara was posted in FB by me on 03 October, 2015. Still I wonder why these forums like ‘‘Vikasana Munnani’are not taking any solemn initiatives for getting the realization of Kollengode - Thrissur Railway, the project of which is scandalously shelved by Railway Ministry since 1964. Despite the fact that the proposed Kollengode - Thrissur line, if implemented would have become more advantageous for Thrissur and central Kerala region as a whole, Passenger associations and other forums based at Thrissur are not keen on campaigning for the same. Two Action Committees based at Nemmara and Kollengode incoherently agitate for the proposed Kollengode - Thrissur Railway. The long pending proposal of the railway line between Kollengode, the erstwhile tiny realm under the Cochin State and Thrissur, the city of pooram festivals is very much significant for the fullest utilization of the Palakkad - Kollengode - Pollachi - Palani - Dindigul route aimed to facilitate shortest route to temple towns of south Tamil Nadu from Malabar and Cochin regions of Kerala. A traffic survey for connecting Kollengode and Thrissur (B.G) was done during 1964-65 by the distinguished Padmashree P.N.Baskaran Nair (late) who simultaneously surveyed the Salem Bangalore and Hassan Mangalore lines. In fact this was the second survey, as the initial survey conducted during the pre-independence period in mid forties already went unnoticed. Though the said line was resurveyed in the year 2007, it was resurveyed, afresh! Kollengode - Thrissur, the proposed new railway line offers adequate scope to operating round the clock pilgrim shuttle services between Palani and Guruvayur to cover a distance of 176 K.m within four hours. Further by operating both Express and Fast Passenger trains through Dindigul- Palani -Pollachi -Kollengode-Nenmara- Thrissur line connecting trunk-route railheads of Tamil Nadu ( Maduarai-Dindigul - Trichy) and Kerala (Thrissur - Ernakulam) will enhance the potential for traffic earnings and optimum utilisation of rolling stocks. I have been advocating for the implementation of the Kollengode - Thrissur railway for the past two decades. Readers can see my articles/blogs on the same in many online editions of national dailies. Hope that the said railway line which was shelved since the first post-independence survey in 1964 will become a reality and change the face of the Pollachi - Kollengode - Nenmara - Vadakkumcherry - Thrissur region. This line as deviation from Kollengode in the Pollachi - Palakkad section creates a direct chord-line between Thrissur and Pollachi, by passing Palakkad. Let us hope that the Railway Budget 2016-17 will formally sanction this project with adequate release of funds. If the said line becomes a reality, the Thrissur - Nemmara - Kollengode - Pollachi- Podanur section will enable diversion of few existing trains as well as many Goods-trains through the same, thus reducing the saturation of traffic in the Thrissur - Ottapalam - Palakkad - Podanur section to a greater extent. The former section will technically be a third line between Thrissur and Podanur! New trains if any being introduced towards Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai etc. can be operated via Thrissur - Nemmara- Kollengode - Pollachi- Podanur section. Further Guruvayur - Chennai Egmore Express can be operated via. Thrissur - Kollengode - Pollachi - Palani- Dindigul route facilitating an over-night journey. Also, once the Guruvayur - Thirunavaya or Tanur railway line (Besides the Palakkad - Ottapalam - Shoranur - Kozhikode route) becomes reality, the Pollachi- Kollengode - Thrissur- Guruvayur - Tanur/Thrunavaya stretch will also enable operation of trains between cities and pilgrim centres of central Tamil Nadu and west-coast cities like Kozhikode, Kannur and places beyond like Mangalore, Goa, Mumbai etc through Konkan line, bypassing the busy Palakkad - Ottapalam- Thrissur/Shoranur sections. The Pollachi - Thrissur chord line will be advantageous for the tourism development of Nelliyampathy (Kerala), Valparai ( T.N) and Top Slip ( T.N) Hill stations.
