Dixieland Jazz is said to be the Happiest and the most Genial in all the Jazz Music.
Kenichi Sonoda, the leading figure of Dixieland Jazz in Japan, has formed a Jazz Band, named "Kenichi Sonoda and his DIXIE KINGS" in Nov. 1960. Since then, the Band has been leading a Japanese Dixieland Jazz Field.
The Band has completely reproduced all the music which had a possibility to remake into Jazz with Dixie Kings'sound, such as foreign folk songs, Japanese folk songs, Japanese school songs, and so on.
Their Performance has enjoyed the worldwide reputation by their powerful sound, and also their arrangement, their songs and their choirs with appropriate humor has been highly appreciated. They have never betrayed the fans' Expectation.
The Band had a lot of opportunity to perform in Overseas. In 1967, they played before the Royal Family of Thailand, and continued south-east Asian Tours of Performance. In 1968 and 1969, they performed in Russia as the Representative of Japanese Music Delegation requested by the government of Soviet Union at that time.
In 1977, Kenichi Sonoda, the Leader of the Band, was designated as a Honorary Citizen of New Orleans, the Birthplace of Jazz Music in the United States, which meant the recognition of Sonoda's long time extraordinary achievement.
It was very regretful that Kenichi Sonoda died on July 12th of 2006. However, the band, "Kenichi Sonoda and his DIXIE KINGS" has continued their Music Activity, keeping "Dixie Kings' Sound" after Sonoda's Death.
