I love that this 16yr old started a business and is carrying on a legacy, but I also don't think the other business owner did anything wrong, he made some good points. I do hope both of them succeed.
Yea at least say "hey alot of your customers come in here and use my bathroom I need at least $0.50 per customer you know which ones do it you aren't blind, you set up Infront of my business so either pay a tax or go somewhere else"
He really didn't tho lol. The second he tried to insert that hot dog stands and steak houses are competitors all of his points became null. Who grabs their family and says hey let's go to the steakhouse down the road and then change into their mind for a hot dog? By this guy's logic the kid should run a sale on steak dinners and whatever they specialize in.
I understand the steakhouse owners frustration over people using his facilities and parking spots. I'm behind him 100% in that regard. As for the young hot dog stand owner, I commend him for his astuteness and maturity. I'm glad both owners were able to work it out and I hope it stays that way. God bless.
Problem is...the steakhouse is many hundreds of thousands of dollars investment and property taxes, etc. and the hotdogs stand is 20k and is basically squatting.
I live in elpaso and these folks just took a corner gradually. I mean they just took it they've got seats tents I think they've even got electricity over the past four year. but for all I know the may be the owners 😂.. sic.
It's great that there's a community group that actually gets people together to amend their differences, before it gets dangerous for either party or ends up in the horrendous legal system.
That wasn't it why the community leader did that. It was about a young white male setting up shop across the parking lot of a Asian business owner of a steakhouse which could be looked at as racist especially them being in a country town.
Nah, in a competitive and free market economy, "no free lunches". And that is exactly what the white kid was doing, smooching off someone's expenditures while reaping the benefits. If the tables were turned, these guys wouldn't come to the aid of the Asian business owner & I'm sure of that. BS cumbaya 🙄
Seems to me like it's not either one of the business owners fault. It's the disrespectful customers that have no respect for people's property but then again what's new.
The fact that you actually believe that in 8 days, people were eating food, and then walking across the street with their trash, just to leave it in the restaurants parking lot is actually hilarious. You must believe whatever comes out of anyone mouth right? Must believe in Santa to. Did you see the trash? The mess? Or just taking what comes out of his mouth as fact?
@@optimalpowersimracing6625 my point exactly. Who has the energy to eat a hot dog outside, WALK ALL THE WAY TO THE OTHER ESTABLISHMENT, LITTER ON SOMEONE ELSE’S PROPERTY, and calmly walk back to the food truck where you parked. PE-TTY!

No different then waste management policies enforced on the restaurant
you mean to tell me these people are just walking into a Steak restaurant without being customers and nobody has stopped them ??? Not a customer No bath room simple as that. I call bs on this one. The guy is just lossing money not the kids fault. I rather pay for a few hot dogs then to take the whole family out for steaks. Unless it was a birthday party or mothers day for the wife.
Wow you Americans are a joke. So what about the people that invested into the statehouse. What this teen did is disgusting. He is no business man he is a joke and will get destroyed in the future
No disrespect to the sixteen-year-old I respect his Hustle No Doubt and I think it's great that he's trying to keep his grandfather's Legacy alive however when you park your food truck across from an establishment that's been there for over 20 years you should expect some competition and you should expect people to complain especially the owner when your customers are leaving a mess in his parking lot and parking in his parking
is he responsible for grown people littering? there is a trashcan and even if there wasnt, they are adults and if they litter thats on them, same for the parking spots, there is a parking lot there, but grown people choosing to be lazy and park at the steak house is also not his responsibility.
So whats the difference when McDonald's, Taco Bell and Burger King opens on the same Street, ya see it all the time!!! Its Competition and free market!
I am glad you covered both sides, because at first I thought the store owner was being a jerk, but after hearing his side... he makes some very valid points. Parking, trash, and more he may have to clean up, using his bathrooms? Come on. The kid needs to move away from that location and park near stores without a restraunt in the same perimeter.
The kid is allowed to be there unless the laws/ordnances change. The store owner made some good points if we were evaluating this from our emotions but there are laws that govern these situations. If he had a business and someone wants to use the restroom it doesn’t matter if they are a customer or not.
My question is: does the town have locations that would feasibly permit moving? If this is about community, petition the mayor to dedicate a lot (it doesn't have to be much; gravel and power connections will do) to food trucks. So many small towns across the country have started doing this, because people are realizing that food trucks just aren't going away. This is one of the last vestiges of the American Dream - don't take it away from people.
I respect the kids hustle but the other business owner has legitimate concerns regarding the parking lot and restrooms. Glad that people decided to try to mend the situation rather than stoking the flames. I hope both businesses are able to move forward in good faith efforts to provide for the community and their own families.
@@xandror I'm sure it doesn't cost him more to operate a restaurant than a kid driving around in a truck. Now he's picking up garbage, his parking lot being used, and folks overcrowding his restrooms. People who cut costs always do so at others expense.

In Phoenix we had certain places to set up in none restaurant areas unless it was a special event planned . Create your own space

You can’t create your own space when everywhere you turn is project housing or buildings coming up, he’s 16, probably struggling as it is with other duties, and on top of that the steak house owner makes the prices low because “life isn’t fair?” Wtf?? What a lot of people don't realize is that when you have a small business and you bring in a lot of customers then the people who are at that business they may notice the other business that they may have not noticed before and decide to go there as well so it's a good thing for both businesses.

And in business, no matter how big or small you are as a company- there's always going to a competitor who offers their customers and yours- the same merchandise either cheaper or more expensive than you. But, you never fold- or throw in your cards. Because, as a business person- it is your job to restrategize- create new promotional outlets to grab your customers' attention. I fully understand the frustration of the restaurant owner. The food truck's customers park in the restaurant parking lot, preventing the restauranteur's customers from parking and thus choking off his business, dump their garbage there, use his restroom, and then run off and bad mouth him. I appreciate the kid's entrepreneurial chops, but free riding off the restauranteur's investment and costs . . . well, hero is not the word that comes to mind. And what's wrong with the restauranteur offering $1.50 hotdogs and free ice cream? It's called pushing back.
Absolutely 👍🏽👏🏽. I’m amazed how many people in this comment section, didn’t catch all the points you mentioned. They still think it’s about some “competition” about the food. I definitely understand the owners frustration imagine countless people That’s not even stopping or considering buying anything in your store taking a huge load in your bathrooms and leaving all so you can clean it up afterwards.
I think the restraunt owner was fibbing a little, he seems stingy, and he has a note on the door that only paying customers can use the restrooms, I'm sure he's quick as a fox to jump on anyone who tries to break that rule. As for the parking, the food truck is in a separate parking lot and none of us know for sure unless we've actually been, so that's hard to say.

It's respectable and honorable that the teen is continuing a family business, but he has to be considerate of other businesses and their properties. Plus the steakhouse owner seemed to be very reasonable and fair. I think the kid just needs to be a little more aware of the problems he's causing the restaurant owner instead of just calling him petty to the media. That's pretty disrespectful.
How was the strakhouse owner reasonable and fair when he literally started selling hotdogs and giving free ice-cream to compete with a 16 year old? Come to large cities where you have like 5 restaurants on one block. It's normal. It's no different then seeing McDonalds, Wendys, Burgerking, etc on the same street. It's not like the teen was selling steak. And its not the teens fault cause grown adults can't have common sense to not park in a different parking lot, or leave their trash around or use another resturant restrooms. Adults should know better, but they choose not to be respectful. For the steakhouse owner to be petty to a 16 year old over something that isn't his fault is wrong.
@@fidelianerina The restaurant owner has every right to undercut the competition just like the hotdog stand decides to park in front of his restaurant suddenly. This is business. The kid is just playing victim card. He's not innocent. He lets his customers dirty the place and get the restaurant owner to clean it up. At least, the Asian guy has the courage to fight back! You should be rooting for the victim not the perpetrator.
@@newageoffreedom I doubt he’s telling his customers to just use the steakhouse’s restroom and litter in the parking lot. If he’s busy serving other customers, he cannot police the actions of customers who have paid for their food and left.
It’s nice to see this kid honoring his grandpa, to his parents ( or whomever raised him) you did a wonderful & damn good job!!! Be proud of what you did! Best everyone! ❤
It is a also wrong to have a business without getting a private lot permission. The kid didn't even pay rent to the private own lot owner. That is highly illegal. They could of had that kid taken out and pay heavy fine if all the owner in area made a complaint. kid was breaking all laws
The news forgot to mention that he parks along with other food trucks in a food truck parking lot that happens to be across from the steak house. They made it sound like he just decided to randomly park across from a steak house in a vacant lot.
This needs to be a more popular post. People don’t realize that food truck owners do not get to decide where to park for the most part, the city decides that. They can only park where the city permits, or at an event if the event permits. It’s not like the kid just posted up in this guys parking lot. I think the restaurant owner is dead wrong - he has a whole steakhouse, meanwhile the kid ONLY sells hotdogs. That’s not competition wtf
No, the restaurant owner IS a jerk. He could simply have had a conversation with the young business owner and explained that he didn't want his customers parking in the restaurant lot or discarding their trash where he had to pick it up. That would have been a fair request and would have given the young man a chance to make sure his customers respected the restaurant's property. But when the restaurant countered by offering cheap hot dogs (at a loss, I'm sure) he was engaging in predatory business practice. He knew he had deeper pockets and could undercut a fledgling business by selling a similar (though I'm sure far inferior) product at a loss for the sole purpose of driving the young man out of business. That may be how it's done in Texas, but it sets a poor example. In 10 years that young man is going to be miles ahead of the restaurant owner, and not because the young man learned to undercut fellow businessmen. It will be because the young man will work harder and be smarter than the restaurant owner. Hat's off to you, young man. I'll take one of your hot dogs over the Steakhouse wieners any day.
If both parties truly meant it. When someone is made to apologize when they don't want to, does that actually count? No point here, just digging into the philosophical side of things.

There's no misunderstanding it is extremely disrespectful in a whole town with parks and plenty of good locations to park a food truck to park it in front of a restaurant that is just rude.
As long as he isn't breaking any laws, then he can park it wherever he wants. The restaurant is trying to undercut him with a hot dog sale, and that's fine too. It's not disrespectful, it's business. Why do you think that the three major auto parts stores always open up across the street from each other? Is that disrespectful? Now, if his clientele is leaving a mess, he should take responsibility and clean it up. Also, it's well within the restaurant owner's rights to prohibit people not going to his establishment from using his parking lot and restroom.

@Hshxb Dhehs yep. Building owners support so much more... besides costing more... The people that work there... Chefs, waiters, cashier, dishwashers, etc. Better laws should be in place to protect building owners... nation wide.
@Hshxb Dhehs the permit the 16yo obtained allowed him to operate at that spot I'm certain, and I'm sure there's a lot fee for usage he's paying to the land owner as well. As far as picking where to go, it just seems smart to go somewhere in proximity to established businesses, plus hot dogs and ice cream aren't exactly a steakhouse's bread and butter, so the hot dog and ice cream offer from the steakhouse owner was a bit petty and emotionally driven imo, even if I can understand the rationale. It's definitely a good idea if the 16yo would get a garbage can or two and the steakhouse owner can mark his properly rented spots with patrons only spaces, or at least the closest ones depending on how busy he usually is. That's just adapting to evolving situations on both ends.
@@onepiecelover6798 can't speak for everyone but I'm not personally sending any hate his way, I just think he could have handled it better from the start. @Hshxb Dhehs *_"Then you have customers from the truck coming in to use your restaurant as a quick spot to poop and pee, if anything the truck owner is petty for that lmao"_* That's up to the restaurant manager to... manage. Presumably the restrooms are inside the restaurant. The kid doesn't and can not control what free people do.
Imagine pulling up to a restaurant and finding the lot full. Would you still go into that restaurant knowing there's a possibility there would be a wait or would you move on with your hunger to a different restaurant? Now also imagine you own that restaurant and the lot is full and the only people coming in are using your facilities and dirtying up the property. You have cooks, dishwashers, host/hostess, and servers that all need to get paid. Yeah I'd be upset too. He handled it well and taught the kid a valuable lesson. You can set up where you want, but be sure you're not going to create problems for the businesses around you or you're going to encourage them to create a direct competition for your customers.
The owner is within his right to post parking lot tow away signs and tow vehicles of non customers, he can also deny non customers access to the restrooms (depending on area some areas if you are X feet from a freeway entrance its illegal to deny restroom access to non customers) However when you price a product below cost to specifically damage or put a compitor out of business its known as dumping and in a lot of states, and localities it is illegal, and can cost you your business license.
Imagine choosing to drive past a place that is packed with a high turn over rate of food knowing its fresh, to go sit down in a dead diner that probably have 1 old pie and food prepared the week before sitting in a fridge waiting to be heated up. Your comment makes literally no sense.

I love to see a young person open and operate a small business, it's not easy today. The restaurant owner has a point though, he's not getting the business, just the mess and I don't blame him for not being too pleased with the situation. You can't (or SHOULDN'T) just go into a restaurant and use the bathroom, that's just not proper. Restrooms are there for the customer's needs, not the customers of the hot dog stand across the street. Not easy to solve this problem without the hot dog stand finding a better spot. The restaurant owner is not being petty, the hot dog stand is creating extra work for him. I didn't see any real SOLUTION being offered by anyone.
That’s because it’s the city that offers up that spot specifically rent to food trucks. It’s a city street not a parking lot. I agree the restroom thing can be a drag but that’s on the restaurant owner to tell people no if he wants to kill his reputation. The kid paid the city for the open spot. It’s not the kid he should be harassing it’s the city.
You should grab a dictionary real quick and look up the word petty. Pretty sure it’s going to tell you something about selling hotdogs and free ice cream to screw over children. 😂 the man was two things. Petty and balding.
While this teen may be exercising his right to do business, his choice of location is questionable. The guy who is in the established food business has been invaded and his profit reduced since both parties now must divide the revenue. You need to learn competition . Crying because a new spot open up , boo hoo many restaurants open next to another restaurant on the same block either next to them or across the street you see that everywhere. Thinking you can open a business and not have any competition is not gonna happen. There's always main restaurants and fast food restaurants grouped up together.
@@biggsterbiggs5890 My original comment was pretty clear, and clearly you didn’t take into account that the rest or the restaurants around the stake house *probably already have restrooms built into them so they can accommodate their customers, the hot dog truck does not have restrooms which already creates an issue with popularity* . The steak house owner was there first, the have more incentive to step up their game if things get bad ESPECIALLY when non paying customers are making more work with no money in their bathrooms. @@NYM0 maybe you didn't listen clearly to the reporter. Just days after the hotdog stand opened the steakhouse owner posted sign for free ice cream and 1.50 hotdogs. The hotdog stand had only been there a total of 8 days. How many people could of been trying to use his restroom that it was such a huge problem? How much of an inconvenience could it of really been in the parking area? How much mess was really left because of this hotdog stand? Does anyone really know? I completely understand the restaurant owner's issues with the kids truck there.

Thanks for the rest of the story........I was confused.
This needs to be a more popular post. People don’t realize that food truck owners do not get to decide where to park for the most part, the city decides that. They can only park where the city permits, or at an event if the event permits. It’s not like the kid just posted up in this guys parking lot.

Old Montgomery Steakhouse, 204 McCown St, Montgomery, TX 77356
I noticed that Chinese food and pizzerias are always across the street from each other.
to leech
The problem wasn’t where he park per se, the restaurant wasn’t in competition. It was the people using his parking lot and dumping their garbage, which made that truck being there a nuisance. Also they mentioned more people were coming in to use the restroom.
@@kittenpawsbb then we are the problem
Reporter should have compared the hotdogs, let the competition be a friendly one.
The community coming together to end the quarrel and have the two men shake hands is what I'm talking about. That's awesome. We need more of that.
So glad those men stepped up and helped resolve the conflict…
You go boy! Now this is what I'm talking about! Keep it going young man. The restaurant owner is right though. The customers need to clean up after themselves, it's neither of their fault.
“The only thing you can do with something petty like that is smile” the teenager responded about restaurant manager complaint when teenager’s customers throw trash onto his property and makes a mess for him to clean up.
This teenager needs to learn common decency and be forced to move his truck.
he isn't getting screwed he has every right to limit the use of his recourses to customers and to lower the price of his food just like that kid has every right to run his stand
its America he is anger about the competition not the bathroom or parking lot
if he doesn't like competition then maybe a capitalist country isn't for him
the kid has trash cans their people just need to learn not to toss trash on the ground
Once again, I literally was not open yet when he put the sign up. He started selling hot dogs the morning of my grand opening. How could my customers have been throwing trash on his property when I wasn’t even open yet?
You need to learn competition . Crying because a new spot open up , boo hoo many restaurants open next to another restaurant on the same block either next to them or across the street you see that everywhere. Thinking you can open a business and not have any competition is not gonna happen. There's always main restaurants and fast food restaurants grouped up together. So they should be forced to buy a different location just because you cry about cleaning.
