Punchers prefer them for obvious reasons, but they are less protective of your hands. Most fighters use foam, its better for the HEALTH of your hands. You do not decide the weight of the gloves the night of a fight. That is decided months ahead of time in the fights contract as is the size of the ring. Maidannas camp tried to slip in a pair of hoarse hair gloves which met the agreed upon weight and were called on it. This video is not evidence of Mayweather trying to cheat its the other way around, sorry.

The weight of the gloves and the size of the ring are agreed upon between the camps, the commission only makes sure that everything in the working contract follows that states boxing rules. You do not decide the weight of the gloves the night of a fight. That is decided months ahead of time in the fights contract as is the size of the ring. Maidannas camp tried to slip in a pair of hoarse hair gloves which met the agreed upon weight and were called on it. The weight of the gloves and the size of the ring are agreed upon between the camps, the commission only makes sure that everything in the working contract follows that states boxing rules.
