ellie went from "oh this is delightful my request for a personal servant to feed and pet me constantly finally has been approved" to "i came out here for a good time and im honestly feeling so attacked right now" real quick
Fr! She went from "Ooh, an all-you-can-eat buffet plus constant pets" to "WTH is this? This definitely was not on my 'List of kitty demands' bingo card! 🤬"
"When I booked a spa day, I asked for the catered buffet luncheon and massage package, not the full-body deep-condition and trim! I ALREADY HAVE A STYLIST FOR THAT!!"
At first she was so friendly that I was thinking "what do you mean she's a feisty one, she's so sweet and lovely!" and then the cat rage unleashed and I understood my mistake
Even a very good kitty can become aggressive when they're scared and in pain! Removing matting is actually very painful, and considering she doesn't seem to even get brushed at home she is prob very confused. No judgement to the owners, it just means she's not used to any of this
My sweeter cat is way more likely to start trying to fight back, the other one is grumpier but when he gets really scared he just kind of gives up and shuts down. Everyone at the vet is always like 'aww he's so sweet and calm' and I'm like no, he's disassociating lol
I want to thank you, Vanessa. I started watching your videos before the Cat Distribution System dropped, not one, TWO cats, on my lap. But seeing your videos made me be adamant of desensitizing my cats to being brushed and allowing me to clip their nails. So far they are very clean and have not needed baths, but when they do, that will make it easier. I also let them hear and feel the air of my hair dryer, and they LOOOOVE being brushed daily. They demand it. Thank you for educating us on how important it is to desensitize our pets to the grooming process and how that can make a groomer's job easier and the whole process less stressful for our pets.
The one that's trying to move in with me loves being brushed too, he looked super confused the first time I did it but quickly went into full bliss mode.
The Cat Distribution System dropped a four week old kitten into my household 1 & 1/2 years ago. She was quite fierce from the very beginning and refused to be brushed. Fortunately, her hair isn't matted. However, there's hair everywhere in the house. I have tried distracting her with treats and toys without success. I have resigned myself to lots of vacuuming.
I feel like the vast majority of owners who are ACTUALLY abusive or neglectful wouldn’t bother to bring their pet in to a groomer, much less to one like you who is so busy that they might need to fight for a slot! Thank you for reminding us viewers that it’s easy to make judgements without having all the information, and for being able to show that a difficult cat and a difficult groom aren’t always the same thing.
@@lychenthropeshe literally said that the cat is likely a rescue because people who declaw their cats would declaw both, thus meaning that she was rescued as an already-declawed cat
I saw another vet groomer video who was upset because an owner didn't bring their dog in before she had puppies and she was really dirty and matted and nursing the puppies in that state, and actively being like "I'm frustrated police won't do anything because it's being corrected." Maybe they didn't know about a maternity groom for dogs but then why are they breeding dogs if they didn't...? My point being I saw a case that did look like neglect being handled and the groomer was upset too.
Thanks Vanessa for clarifying that kneading and purring in cats is not always a sign of joy, but can also be used to self soothe in stressful situations ❤ this is something that is quite often misunderstood, and it helps that you share it on your platform!
These long hair cats are so much work to keep up with, any life event that prevents you from brushing them for even a few weeks means they're going to get matted. Like if you break your arm and can't do it at all for a month, or only brush them half as often when you've got a new baby, or whatever: mats. Also I'm always amazed at how calm and accepting these cats are in the bath. The last time I tried to bathe a cat (decades ago now) she screamed in rage the entire time and tried to kill us all.
I was in a situation where I couldn't brush my dogs during covid. They were very compacted and matted. I took them to a different groomer that had space for new clients. I told her why they were in the state they were in and she was extremely nice about it. I was very grateful that she respected me and didn't judge. I wish there were more people in the world like that. I love your videos btw! ❤
I tried that clip thing with my Sir Jasper, a 30lbs Maine Coon that thinks he is a saber tooth tiger, and it did nothing aside from pissing him off even more… I gave up trying to clip his claws… he will let me brush him, to a point and he LOVES water… but get near his claws and he will tear you up and then go pee in one shoe and poop in the other! Thankfully I figured out a way to get his claws filed down… I got a wrap to go around his scratching posts.l. It has small holes in it… I took 80 grit sand paper and put it behind the mesh piece with the bigger holes and then I wrapped it around his scratching post… solution to file down claws was a success! His claws are quite dull now! NEVER DECLAW YOUR CATS!!!!
My last rescue was declawed in the front. One of her paws looked fine. The other was completely mangled, and the paw pads had deep, white scarring in it. She had terrible arthritis in her feet. I am glad she was with us, where she could lounge aout to her heart's content, and we would help her out on days when her feet hurt too much to do much of anything. Never declaw, unless it's to remove a damaged claw/toe or to remove a non-retractable extra claw on a polydactyl cat. The pain is unbearable for the cats.
I have 2 Maine coon Turkish angora mixes (one got the Maine coon genes, the other the Turkish angora. It's funny how different they look. My giant 13lb polydactal grey tabby kitten and his silky black 8lb sister. They're only 6mos old). Thankfully they're both SUPER chill about me touching their paws... probably because we've been touching their paws since we rescued them at 3 weeks old. The big boy likes pawing at nail files so I use that to dull his nails 😂. His sister just lays on her back and let's me clip and file them. His sister has one of those weird double claws coming from her thumb.

You can brush them daily and suddenly one morning it's like they spent the night trying to create dreadlocks. Once that mat starts it's almost impossible to get out without professional grooming tools. We used to have a comb that had shorter scissor blades to help slice through the knots.
I have two Maine coons and one has much denser fur than the other and he’s the same where you can brush him daily but some small mats still manage to sneak through. He’s had some really big nasty ones where I’ve had to try and cut them out whilst he’s sleeping because the nature of the way they tug on his skin hurts him and he will slap me and bite me to tell me to stop touching. The worst ones are the super tiny ones that cluster together on his belly because although he loves his belly being touched and loves being brushed, anything tugging on that skin really bothers him. They’re not from the same litter but it’s so strange how his fur is so dense but my other Maine coon has super silky fur so matting is a very rare occurrence for her
I always love seeing the compassion and understanding you have especially with cats. They are often misunderstood from the time humanity turned their back on them for a few hundred years, but that understanding is coming back. You even know when to push boundaries and when to back off, which I think is something I need to be slightly more aggressive with myself as I'm working with a new kitten.
My girl kitty is like this. As a kitten she was attacked out on the streets, where she was found. So she has always been spooky. Sweetest, loving, cuddly cat until you try to force her to do something that frightens her. She will bite and scratch you to tatters if she is scared.
@@LaurenNeill-f1q I think my Mandy was more, um, aggressive in her approach to life - I called her the Empress sometimes because I always got the impression that her response to, say, a vet wanting to look at her teeth, was based in rage at the lèse-majesté rather than fear! At about the same time, I had another cat, Betsy, who'd been dumped in the street when her previous owners moved, and must have gone through some rough times. She was terrified - I don't think she ever trusted another human but me, and it took her a while to get used to me - but she'd freeze in terror if she was forced to see the vet. She'd run and hide whenever anyone came into the house, even when it was a friend she knew, who fed them when I travelled.
@Linnet09 she runs and hides a good bit but is worlds better than she was. I try to never force any issues unless medically needed. Otherwise, it's all on her terms and that's helped out a lot
People can tell what a gifted groomer you are from simple things like the fact that you are not merely tolerant of the cat protests (swatting/growling etc) but that you are amused by it rather than threatened by it and take it in your stride.
The bobble on her head and how puffy her fur is compared to her fur being wet just tickled me so much. Lol, she is a cutie. And the wrapping of her feet. It was interesting
I don't groom, and don't have dogs anymore, but I keep watching because I love how patient you are, how you work around the animal, observe their cues and incorporate their movements into the groom where you can. I'm a sonographer and I do something similar with paediatric and elderly cases. You're like my inspiration!!🥰
oh my goodness, the front paws in yellow vet wrap look like duckie flippers gracefully paddling through a pond. I can hear the Blue Danube waltz in my head and everything. What a sweet little chili pepper-like the best dipping sauce!
you are so right, i like to think if the owners bring them to a groomer in a bad condition its because at least they care for them, but sometimes circumstances dont allow them to be better for a while, and for you to say "thats why im here" its so awesome to hear too and so true. Ellie is just so adorable i just want to jump thru the screen and give her endless kisses♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
You did such a great job! To those who are tempted to criticize owners, remember: Everyone is fighting a secret battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always.
Love how you touched on the matting not always being anyone’s fault. I’ve been severely depressed awhile and my golden even when she is brushed regularly has spots that mat if you look at it wrong and they got really bad at one point and I felt horrible as I shaved them out and saw the extent
Thanks for speaking up about this. I have some experience with depression, and know how debilitating and hard to treat it can be. I wish there was more empathy in the world. I wish you & your golden many years of happiness and comfort.
Great job on the groom. That was incredible that you got that far. She just wasn't going to let you do what was needed . I like the idea of vet rapping the paws . I never saw that before . I'm glad you could finish the groom on that adorable cat. I understand life happens and circumstances come up in life you wouldn't ever think would happen in your life and then dealing with the situation takes up all of your time . Then things get backed up on your to do list before you know it . I hope this groom for both the cats helped the owner to help cope and support the owner with the circumstances they were felt in life. ❤
The rage biscuits are a first for me 😆Cats sometimes purr loudly when they are stressed. I don't know if they do it to self-soothe or if it's a defense, like they're trying to appease who or whatever they feel "threatened" by. In any case I'm sure she feels 1000x better now than she did. I wish her owner the best and a quick recovery from whatever she's going through, these are clearly very loved cats.
I love it that you groom cats! I used to have to groom my Persian myself - he was a very good boy tho. These two sisters were so pretty! Plus I combed & brushed him everyday!
What a sweet cat! It’s always so difficult in times where a child or even a pet requires necessary but uncomfortable treatment, albeit for their own benefit.

Aww... cuddle kitty! Temporarily, at least.
Thank you for taking care of the baby, even if she was a bit spicy.
What a funny little ball of dryer lint. Glad you were able to get the mats off her front feet even if it did take an extra human to hold her down.
That tape is the best idea I've seen since the head bubble
I've enjoyed watching sisters Penny and Ellie. Beautiful job on furry beauties. 💙🌻💙
Vanessa, you have nerves of steel. I am glad you did not have to shave the cat. ❤️ "Thank you. Please come again. Put your tail in your house." 😂
That is one pretty cat
you are so right, i like to think if the owners bring them to a groomer in a bad condition its because at least they care for them, but sometimes circumstances dont allow them to be better for a while, and for you to say "thats why im here" its so awesome to hear too and so true. Ellie is just so adorable i just want to jump thru the screen and give her endless kisses♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
You did such a great job! To those who are tempted to criticize owners, remember: Everyone is fighting a secret battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always.
SERIOUS LY! I care bout the cats, not this unnecessary shit show!!!
declawing is still a pretty abusive + painful procedure for cats. not a green flag imo.
@@lychenthropethey are adopted, did you not watch the video?
Love how you touched on the matting not always being anyone’s fault. I’ve been severely depressed awhile and my golden even when she is brushed regularly has spots that mat if you look at it wrong and they got really bad at one point and I felt horrible as I shaved them out and saw the extent
Thanks for speaking up about this. I have some experience with depression, and know how debilitating and hard to treat it can be. I wish there was more empathy in the world. I wish you & your golden many years of happiness and comfort.
the view at 16:23 of all the subduing methods is hilarious 🤣
“I’m friendly until you begin working on me!” What a purr baby! Even though she’s upset she still love from you!❤
The pain of that matting, thank you, thank you for helping this gorgeous blue beauty.
She is sooo cute 😭
Beautiful work! Thank you for all you do to help not only the pets but the owners as well ❤
Skippity Paps (Tony Baker) 😂
What a lovely grey color she is!
I had a cat with this color coat.
She was a long haired grey tortoiseshell
She is a blue cream persian aka dilute tortie. 🙂
U finally got a bigger cup..😂😂
The Canadian “I’m soar-ee!” 😂 Almost as cute as Ellie’s biscuits
Woa! Vet wrap saves lives! Wonderful invention.
Ellie curled up in a ball in your lap while you try to shave her is just too adorable.
The "Howl Sisters." Very beautiful.
Her coloring is gorgeous 😍
It’s almost like she’s cuddling as if to say sorry for being upset about the leg mat grooming. Poor kitty. She tried very hard to be a good kitty.
Ellie was being so cuddly in the beginning I don’t know how she gets her job done! I could cuddle all day ❤
I love it that you groom cats!
Lady you got some good ideas, ive groomed for 40years and that clip idea is the bomb...vet wrap why didnt i think of that, and i love the bubble, i had to use cones and welding gloves, lol, and have to be able to groom with both hands.... you did good, love it....
That is the cutest pile of soot I've ever seen. Lol.
Omg the way she was kneading the air stressfully and angrily is so cute
You are so awesome with all the animals that you groom
