I am a one hander who is newer to bowling so I was really excited to watch some of the premier one handers and observe and learn from them. Instead I got 3 gutters and 2 fouls 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀 But seriously i did notice AJ took a deep breath before each shot after the 5th frame and just went to work. Thats how comebacks happen.
Really enjoyed watching Joe. He added some life to the stale Randy commentary. Loved the head banging to his favorite music, loved that he wore shoes that didn't make him foul. Marching to his own tune.
Butters said on the next night's telecast that he had been wearing new shoes on the Cheetah telecast, and went back to his old shoes, which were blown out and falling apart, just so he wouldn't have issues with fouling again.
If you are just looking for gutter balls by the same professional bowler in the same match you have Kelly Coffman vs Marshall Holman where Holman threw two gutter balls back to back in the same frame. Also Holman threw another gutter ball earlier in the televised finals and still won the match he threw the one gutter ball. What made it so hard to believe that Holman actually threw three gutter balls in the tournament with two in that one game mentioned above is Holman was known for his accuracy. So much so that not only was the crowd at a loss for words even the late Earl Anthony was also at a loss for words since Holman at the time was known as one of the best bowlers at that time. Anthony knew Holman's style almost as good as his own style which is why Anthony was at a loss of words to describe it. Coffman went on to win the match and bowled for the title. Below is a link to the video that shows it. In fact Chris Schenkel said it would be a match that everyone would talk about for a long while. Here is the link to the actual match. th-cam.com/video/2gKFgK1B5mU/w-d-xo.html
Thank you for doing these. Much prefer your commentary to 'Pressing' questions and interviews and some of the corny attempts at humor from the usual duo on FOX.
Seems to me that the Cheetah pattern favors bowlers who throw it more straight up the boards and apparently aside from Grondin none of the other 4 have something resembling that skill in their arsenal. Even though he may have been playing a less than optimal line, EJ showed just how good a bowler he is by making it work
The opening match was fun and funny to watch with all the gutters and fouls. But the final match with EJ was boring. EJ was just too dominant over BJ. Wished BJ put up more of a fight to make it exciting.
Marshall Holman is the only player to score 0 points in a televised frame. He threw a double gutter in the 1990 ABC classic, right after throwing another gutter in the previous match. His score was 19 starting the 4th frame. And he missed by an arrow basically, unlike AJ who had a lot less room. I remember the match. It was way, and I mean WAY sloppier than this one. Scores were dismal and the quality of play was atrocious. Just saying.
That Joseph character wears illegal shoes and bowls on t.v. that's B.S. Make sure you let the bowling world know bowling shoes do not need to be worn when bowling anymore. I can't wait to not have to change shoes anymore the power I get from not slipping shoes is what people used to complain about.
They did mention during telecast that Grondin had to get a special approval from the committee to wear those basketball shoes during the matches, apparently he has a story behind it. He had to cover the brand name with tape, though (since it wasn't a bowling-related company). Definitely not what you'd see often, but apparently it wasn't illegal.
Definitely not. They still bowled more than 200 despite of the mishaps. There have been games way worse than these, even when you only take cheetah shows in account. If I recall correctly, Svensson once lost with 140 something.
Well Belmo bowled a 148 in the 2019 US Open and I believe that is his lowest game and then Andrew Andersen bowled a 146 in the 2023 TOC against Belmos 240
This is an example of why we shouldn't let the leaders of the bowling commission make these unfair lane condition rules. Anyway I will not bowl anymore especially for money: one reason is my amputation of my right-half foot. But the other is the rules they make are unfair. And the lane conditions are not fit for anybody to bowl, and you can't trust the commission period. I don't want to waste my money Sanctioning. So I don't bowl anymore because besides I am good and I know it so I do not need to prove anything to anyone.
I'd argue the craziest comeback was when Chris Barnes gave up 50+ pins in 4 frames to Michael Haugen Jr. It was wild, and another time multiple gutterballs were thrown like that was Pete Weber and the whole 2012 or 2013 wolf, I don't remember which one, ej was in it too and threw 1 or 2 in the gutter
That was the craziest match I have seen. 2 fouls, 3 gutter balls in 5 frames!
Reminds me of my dad.
He gutters it first frame and then hits 9 pins in the next bowl.
Afterwards he would strike like crazy
5:35 must have never seen me and my friends bowl
I've benn watching PBA on TV since I was a kid in the 70's, and I have never seen a match like EJ v Jacob. Absolutely nuts. Thanks for the video.
AJ*

That was definitely the craziest match I've ever seen.
this was a crazy match and even more crazier this aired on my birthday
You were right about AJ giving credit to the ball rep. The announcers don’t always catch it.
aj is the new gutterball goat :D
Ej is 🔥 👏

That foul for Butters in 10 most likely gave him an extra pin over if he kept the split shot. He most likely would've shot 202 (8 - 1) instead.
Mannnnnnn was that something or not!!!!!!!!

You had A.J-E.J-B.J all in the same show.
It was soooo awesome not having any two handers on the show 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼😎
It would be the greatest if he won the title or at least reach the final
Greatest comeback ever goes to Michael Haugen Jr vs Chris Barnes who overcame 52 pins halfway thru
Thank you for doing these. Much prefer your commentary to 'Pressing' questions and interviews and some of the corny attempts at humor from the usual duo on FOX.
Thanks very much! Glad you enjoyed it :)
I saw it in person
Marshall Holman threw a gutter once, and then threw a double gutter, a frame or 2 later….lol
Not crazy, it's literally AJ Johnson, being AJ Johnson. Mr. 2nd Place now has a new record of most gutterballs in a game and 5 frames. xD
It's going to haunt him for the rest of his career.
Like TD and his 100 game. 💀

Tommy Jones did toss it in the gutter in a title match twice and win, but yeah, this one...
Tommy Jones actually thrown 2 gutters in the same match or show.
Yea my favorite bowler did in 2005 at the Tulsa Open
That wasn’t a fucking foul. If he was in socks hypothetically, he wouldn’t have been anywhere near it.
I'd never seen 1 gutter ball in a pro match let alone 3...Plus two foot faults? Never say never, but this will never happen again

Gutter balls are the worst shots in bowling.
Obviously 😂
Same with Fouls
No way, really?
I think missing single pin spare is worse
@@chunipwong4669 nah missing corner pins is very common
Don't call it a comeback, he's been there for years.

This is nothing new...a pro named Jess Stayrook was bowling on the tour wearing sneakers back in the 1980s
They did mention during telecast that Grondin had to get a special approval from the committee to wear those basketball shoes during the matches, apparently he has a story behind it. He had to cover the brand name with tape, though (since it wasn't a bowling-related company).

Craziest comeback or crappiest bowling on T.V?
Definitely not. They still bowled more than 200 despite of the mishaps. There have been games way worse than these, even when you only take cheetah shows in account. If I recall correctly, Svensson once lost with 140 something.

It was a good PBA bowling event to watch. 🎳🎳

It’s not a comeback when the other guy fouls twice lol how stupid it was just half good bowling and half absolutely awful bowling
