The APHE is nice when it works. Unfortunantly it doesn't always work. I rather pen someone reliebly and actually do damage rather then hope that the APHE shell will penetrate. I tried the APHE on the T-55-AM1 for a couple of matches and it kept bouncing off most targets and got me killed.
22:33 - A good note for PUMA killers- aim for that spot right where turret meets roof, and shells tend to hit, deflect downward, and actually ruin the vehicle in one good hit. And if not, you've probably either fouled the turret or disabled the gun, which is also good.

For anyone who wants to play the T-55AMD-1 and want to Avoid the PUMA I suggest playing 9.0 as its still Effective as you can at least shoot at something that isnt Broken. Even at 9.0 I faced so many ATGM Vehicles that could do Nothing.

Phly did some testing with this on the dev server, and it counters ATGMs, AGMs, Bombs, and even low velocity rounds. It does appear to have a blind spot below the level of the launcher, and I assume it probably has one above a certain attack angle too. Edit: Would you consider doing one of your tutorial videos (or maybe a couple) on dogfighting strategies?
If an APS destroyed a bomb at that close a range the tank should be destroyed anyway, especially if the bomb is detonated in the air above the tank where most of the blast would hit the weaker armor on the top of the tank. Bombs and some missiles need not hit a tank to destroy it. I also find it suspect that APS systems would work against larger ATGMs anyway.
Pretty sure the British has the only one remotely capable of taking out low vel rounds. The trophy system on the Abrams/Merkava are a bit better at it/more reliable but I thought it was silly they even put it on any of the Russian tanks since they actually have never implemented this technology, but gajin
I love the T-55A. To me it’s perfectly “balanced medium modernish tank”. Okay armor, decent punchy gun and okay speed. I lllooovvveee it but I got much higher tier tanks. I still keep it in my line up and bonk tanks constantly. This will definitely be added to my long list of tonks to keep my lineup on par.
Its not realy that hard when you know where to shoot (best case in the hull at the fuel tanks or the left side of the turret with gunner and commander) the T-55 is a very good tank at its br but its not as mobile or has as good of a reload as other tanks so individual T-55 versions could go up but not every T-55
From my experience with the Puma so far, it's not really nigh unkillable, mostly seems thay people go into an absolute panic when they see you and start shooting at the dumbest of spots Like for example the empty rear section is a popular target lol. Can't speak if the T55 from anything but "going against" perspective. It's fine, even if annoyint as shit when your only offence are missiles. Can't speak for any other new shiny vehicles due to lack of fighting against them
@@OvercastCoob i think its a mixture of the Puma being new to the game so theres not much experience with fighting against it and to properly spot it fast as a puma. What problems i have fighting against it though is that if only the turret shows its hard to do anything against it
Yes, War Thunder APS is stock but APFSDS (which is arguably the MBT main ammo) isn't. With no roof armor T44-100 and even more bugs than before the update. Good video Odd!

So I did my own “wee bit” of research and made big changes in my lineups. Result: much better economics for me, and I’ve decided to stick with low tier. Thanks for the heroic effort on your part creating so much excellent video.
APS has it's limitations though, and once people learn that you can be attacked from elsewhere than full frontal .... They just need to learn where else to hit the T55. Good video, they always are dude! ;)
It's like if more than 5 sounds are present at the same time other audio just doesn't load. Silent tanks, jets or helicopters right above, behind or beside you. Let alone however many tank guns or explosions elsewhere on the map aren't loaded.

I unlocked 8.3 Germany yesterday and started playing the alouette (this thing is op) this aps will be really useful in the case there is anti air or bmp2/Sturm s and enemy heli which is a regular thing
when an enemy is behind smoke, fire the 50 a couple shots, if you get a hit indicator, then you fire the main gun. its a great way to feel out a target when you cant see. WT gives you a 7th sense with indicators, use them
Don't have the T-55AMD-1 yet, but I remember watching a video obout the APS and it had like 75-80% procent success of shooting. AND AMD is has a specific degrees up and down to be activated and I think the lover degree is like only 6° I think. It's nice addition to Russian tech tree. Personally I would be more happy for new SPAA between 3.7-7.0 gap and th gap between 8.0-10.7. Russian need more spaa then another tank/mbt. Eather way I do t mind because it's T-55 and APCBC go BOOM. Personally I think the T-55 is only tank where APCBC is better then the APFSDS.
It's not as stupid as the PUMA, however it is also a unique buff (shockingly in the russian tech tree) at this BR range, on top of that the protection system has more charges than the higher tier vehicles (8 vs 4 IIRC)
APS Would've been good a few content updates ago when missile slingers didn't have a horde of (mostly German) autocannons W+M1'ing their way across the map, but now the entire game balance is out of whack and the more stuff they add without sorting out what's already there, the worse it's going to get.
The balance won't ever be fixed. Because in Gaijins eyes, it isn't a balance issue, it is a frustration mechanic. If players get killed by say the KA-50 over and over again, then they are more likely to buy that heli to do the same as well. The entire game is engineered to make you want to spend money on it. Any time you get upset, blame Gaijin for it, Not the players. It is Gaijin that allows this kind of behaviour in the first place.
I don't think it should be that low.. Especially since they didn't have one that worked that well until the mid to late 90's.. That is a retro fit from what I remember from the late 90's.. But I could be wrong that was 30 yrs ago too..
In my opinion this tank should either be moved to 8.7 or stay (at 8.7 you mostly play uptier) and move the chinese T-55 that doesnt even have as strong frontal armor as this thing down to 8.0 or 8.3
I definitely agree aps shouldn't be that low or some things should be moved down the bmd 4 last time I checked only has 4 atgms so you could expend all your ammo and probably not even take it all away if there was something you faced with aps

Yaknow, practically as we have seen IRL, and as Israel has experienced. Having a APS so limited in angle is generally bad, as most shots these days are gonna come from unexpected places from teh side and rear. having a system that can cover 360 degrees like the Trophy is paramount. Buuuuut in good ol War Thunder, it seems the Drozt [whatever its called] works pretty good. As fighting like most people who know what they are doing, do. Your turrets generally facing where a ATGM is likely to come from anyway. And having more charges to keep you safe is pretty nice. GJ Russia, making tech for a game you didnt even know would happen. So i dont know if I should buy the XM-1 for the US because I am gonna buy the A10, but I don't know if the XM-1 is worth it or not. I've test drove it quite a lot but I'm still not sure. Could someone help me out.
XM-1 is one of my favorite tanks- I have it and the AGS and they are a super combo. The A-10 would be a perfect complementary jet if you’re good at the game already. None of those vehicles are good for learning the game though. XM-1 excels in a support role since it’s armor isn’t great against things like the turms. It’s very quick and maneuverable and the gun is great at range.

I think It's fine. Sure it's not that useful to have APS at this BR, but hey it's a tech tree T-55 with access to ATGMS at least, and it gets added composite armor at the front. It's good against Marders and BMPs, I don't know if it actually blocks the PG grenades though, it should since they fly at 665 M/S but I haven't tested it.
@@Kwisss yes the ZTZ-88 is slightly more mobile and has a better turret traverse then the ZTZ59D but look for a br comparison to the soviet T-55 versions that have similar hp at a lower br with better features (but yeah the 59D is certainly also overrated br wise)
@@Kwisss btw did you also see that the chinese copy of the Tu-4 has a 30% lower silver lion modifier then the soviet one while being the same plane even with repair costs XD the chinese IL-28 meanwhile (H-5) has double the repair cost then the IL-28sh with less payload options
With the APS system on this tank it one works if your looking in 3rd person if you free look or are un the gunner sight it doesn't work I don't know why
APS was definitely a bad idea imo. I agree that it could be much better suited to top tier, however it really cripples a lot of stuff at lower BRs and even further gimps vehicles that weren't terribly good to begin with. I think gajin severely underestimated the impact it would have on a lot of the existing vehicles, and now they'll have to re-balance another wave of vehicles and further mess with the already fragile BR "balance". Hopefully they sort things soon, but there is more than one reason why they're nicknamed "the snail".

18:16 yeah, i think they might have shadow-buffed the Maus's speed, pre-update it usually went around 6-8mph max unless you yeeted it off a cliff. now its going 10-13mph forward and backward (i love using the Maus so i ain't complaining :P)

You should play the ZiS-43. It's basically got the pen of a reserve tank like a Stuart but it fires at 160 rpm.

I say keep it at top tier for balancing. At this tier, the Soviet/Russian tech tree is the only tech tree that has a hard-kill APS.
It's a neat system, but it just furthers my desire to never play above 7.3, unless I'm bringing out the BT5 for some 11.0 action.

The APS if the projectile is low enough, it wont work so yes, it wouldnt work since the APS depression range is very bad.

Buuuuut in good ol War Thunder, it seems the Drozt [whatever its called] works pretty good. As fighting like most people who know what they are doing, do. Your turrets generally facing where a ATGM is likely to come from anyway.

I love playing the modern tanks, but I think I'll stick to WWII for a bit till they work out these new systems.
So i dont know if I should buy the XM-1 for the US because I am gonna buy the A10, but I don't know if the XM-1 is worth it or not. I've test drove it quite a lot but I'm still not sure. Could someone help me out.
XM-1 is one of my favorite tanks- I have it and the AGS and they are a super combo. The A-10 would be a perfect complementary jet if you’re good at the game already. None of those vehicles are good for learning the game though. XM-1 excels in a support role since it’s armor isn’t great against things like the turms. It’s very quick and maneuverable and the gun is great at range.

I think It's fine. Sure it's not that useful to have APS at this BR, but hey it's a tech tree T-55 with access to ATGMS at least, and it gets added composite armor at the front. It's good against Marders and BMPs, I don't know if it actually blocks the PG grenades though, it should since they fly at 665 M/S but I haven't tested it.
Tbh im more annoyed that the new chinese T-55 that only has composite armor on the hull that isnt even as good as this one is at 8.7 xD
The ZT-88 is surprisingly mobile and has way better turret traverse vs the ZTZ59D. The 59D belongs at 8.3.
@@Kwisss yes the ZTZ-88 is slightly more mobile and has a better turret traverse then the ZTZ59D but look for a br comparison to the soviet T-55 versions that have similar hp at a lower br with better features (but yeah the 59D is certainly also overrated br wise)
@@Kwisss btw did you also see that the chinese copy of the Tu-4 has a 30% lower silver lion modifier then the soviet one while being the same plane even with repair costs XD the chinese IL-28 meanwhile (H-5) has double the repair cost then the IL-28sh with less payload options
With the APS system on this tank it one works if your looking in 3rd person if you free look or are un the gunner sight it doesn't work I don't know why

APS was definitely a bad idea imo. I agree that it could be much better suited to top tier, however it really cripples a lot of stuff at lower BRs and even further gimps vehicles that weren't terribly good to begin with. I think gajin severely underestimated the impact it would have on a lot of the existing vehicles, and now they'll have to re-balance another wave of vehicles and further mess with the already fragile BR "balance".
Hopefully they sort things soon, but there is more than one reason why they're nicknamed "the snail".

Question, has anyone else been having issues on youtube the last few days with recently uploaded videos being stuttery and/or defaulting to a low resolution? Older videos work flawlessly but recent ones are a mess...
18:16 yeah, i think they might have shadow-buffed the Maus's speed, pre-update it usually went around 6-8mph max unless you yeeted it off a cliff. now its going 10-13mph forward and backward (i love using the Maus so i ain't complaining :P)
Could you drop a vid or show in a vid what your settings are, like graphics, controls etc etc..?
