@@Nitu_S.C. Whilst I understand where you're coming from I don't really agree. I'd argue that being isolated from your friends and family, with limited contact with the outside world, knowing you're stuck there until the end of your sentence, is punishment enough. Keep in mind that this is a category C prison as well - i.e. for low risk offenders.
It’s so crazy seeing the difference between the UK prisons and the U.S. prisons. It’s more focused on rehabilitation and that’s something that needs more focus in the US. Very educational video, loved it ❤
This is so amazing!! Its great to see the humanity that theyre trying to keep in their prisons. While people do deserve sentences for the things theyve done, at the end of the day the focus should be on rehabilitation because loads of people can turn their life around for the better. So cool to see technology used to facilitate this process!

It's amazing how a prison provides more accommodations and opportunities than most government do to societies at large. I've experienced first hand how hard it was (still is, since I'm an unemployed adult) to find a job, seeing how this particular prison prepares the inmates to rejoin the society, It's crazy that I even said this but I couldn't help but feel a little jealous. that workshop is a dream, since I want to learn a lot of skills
go to UK and commit a crime i guess Its dumb how much privilege they're giving to these criminals considering that these prisoners have access to things that a lot of good, law abiding people don't and probably never will. Society is doomed.
@@Justakattothat’s not true … majority of people in the uk have access to all their needs and the majority of prisons are not what this video shows So don’t be a fool
@syd8477 An American here. So many European countries - and even Canada - believe in actually rehabilitating those convicted of crimes except in the very horrendous cases. As somebody who works in government security, I am beyond impressed by how much work went into this. The implications of this type of research goes well beyond just security. Many of these technologies are groundbreaking for accessibility and mental health.

holy... mate, this video is awesome. This has to be one of the best videos I have enjoyed the most. It is amazing to see this and how prisons are using tech. Keep up the awesome work, and props for you for getting access to the prison to show us. Usually I thought that would be a big no no by them.
I don't see why the "anti-prison" crowd are taking such issue with this video. The fact is, the prison shown in this video is way nicer (and treats its inmates more like humans) than many prisons in the U.S. Anyone who supports preventative measures over reactionary enforcement tactic should be applauding this prison for having things like the CAT simulator (so released inmates have a better chance of getting a job and supporting themselves) and plenty of ways of keeping in contact with the outside world (again, important for minimizing the shock inmates have upon returning to the outside world). It's at least a step in the right direction.
I often think prison life should be rough, hard labor sort of thing... this video reminds me of the overall humanity needed to give people a chance after prison. Outstanding video.
@@nimja_op6894 exactly, this prison is disappointing. They're treating prisoners like they're just regular people; they're not. they're criminals who are there for a reason. The whole point of prison is to induce regret and disappointment by cutting you off from the outside world and reducing your entire existence to a number. That sense of isolation is what makes a prison what it is. This joke of a "prison" is doing none of that. They're letting criminals have education and go to jobs? What's the difference from the outside world then? How's that supposed to induce regret? Look at the prisoner arun talked to; look how fkn fit that man is. HOW is that the body of someone who's in prison? They're supposed to feed prisoners the bare minimum to survive. People are supposed to DREAD going to prison. Does that man look like someone who's dreading being there? No. Does he look AT ALL remorseful or sad ? No. He does not. This is NOT a prison. Its a waste of money.
@@Justakatto the main goals of legal punishment are retribution, protection, reformation, and vindication. it would be a human rights abuse to put prisoners in the conditions you're describing (feeding prisoners the bare minimum to survive, etc). while your ideal prison seems to focus on vindication, this prison seems to focus on reformation. the idea is that if you don't prepare prisoners for real jobs once they get released, they'll end up in organized crime as a means of income, or ending up back in whatever situation it was that led to them committing the crime that got them in there in the first place. idk about you but i'm not a fan of organized crime, and i'm also not a fan of human rights abuses, including against those who commit crimes. while i don't believe prison should be an enjoyable experience, i do believe that it should be an opportunity for the prisoners to change, so that society as a whole can improve.

I have to say that I really enjoyed this video. Arin, I found it really interesting how much prison life is moving forward I spent years in an out of scottish prisons that were built during the victorian age and even the newer ones were still very outdated that did little to nothing to rehab prisoners for release but I'm glad that it seems the times a changing.

Incredible video! The walkthrough of HMP Fos truly highlights how technology can play a role in prison design and security. It's especially insightful to see how inmates are able to use tech for self-improvement. Can't wait for your next unique adventure!
this is refreshing to see both from an adopting new technology perspective, but also from a rehabilitation perspective. We dont want to keep people locked up for no reason, get them re-habilitated and back out into the world as a productive member of society
This is truly incredible to see. I really hope more prisons move to systems like this. Soo many could be rehabilitated or brought back into society but the current systems fail people far more often then they seem to help. Just a really cool video. The tech and design is really cool.
I'm not sure what to think about this other than this is amazing. They're so focused on the rehabilitation aspect. It was emotional for me and that part was confusing. I don't have family members who were/are in jail, so I don't have a personal connection either.
People in this comments section really don’t know the difference between a tour and a review. He’s not rating the prison and telling you whether you should go there, he’s showing the public something they don’t normally have access to.
Oh my dear, that man has a soothing voice and vocal mannerisms that simply makes it a joy to listen to him, explaining all of their tech. He's also suspiciously "mi6"-y.
10:24 this is probably the most effective example of how non-tech prisons can upgrade their security massively for relatively cheap. Just have a few of these on rotation (for charging purposes) and one guard's job be to fly a drone around all the time - having that aerial surveillance 24/7 is not only a huge deterrent but can immediately spot an escape attempt or fight
honestly that seems like the way forward for prisons, less about brutal draconian punishments and more about education and preparing those people to reenter society as fully reformed and valuable members of it.
Thanks for the tour Aaron, this high tech prison is really mind blowing…& yea, is really good to let the prisoner keep in touch with their family, makes them feel they are not left behind from the family & society…
Just blown away with this episode, you gotta have some pulling power to get to this benchmark! I don't think any of the other major tech guys have gone to this level of coverage in the highest tech prison! Gratz man, fully impressed
as an American, this video has me wishing prisons across the pond were more focused on rehabilitation and reinstating members of society vs. using them as statistics for monetary gain. Kudos for the new content, excellent journalistic qualities while still keeping the context of your channel!
Not just here in UK. Scandinavia was the first to adopt rehabilitation over hard punishment. If you throw prisoners into a traumatic environment where they are unsafe, unable to learn new skills and treated like total scum... they will become exactly that. They will come out, fall off and reoffend. Obviously its different for murderers, rapists and such. But most prisoners are in for more petty stuff like drugs and theft. Teach them how to survive out in society, treat them like people and they will become better. Europe is slowly understanding and adapting to this
This prison seems to address many of the issues with most prisons. Far too often do prisons focus purely on the punishment aspect of it, whereas this one has a huge focus on rehabilitation. I am someone who thinks rehabilitation should be the primary focus of a prison. Between allowing contact with relatives, providing opportunities for education, and just treating the prisoners like human beings, the prisoners are able to make the best out of a low point in their lives and prepare themselves for reintegration into society when they've finished doing their time. This is a prison done right.
Hey Arran! It's such a nice change from your other content, which I love. Do you plan on creating more like this? Maybe some similar topics relating to technology?

It surprises me in a very GOOD way! I like how they have taken a great deal of time & effort to add "psychological boosters" (for lack of a better term) to help inmates "feel busy"... they aren't just sitting in cells, staring at walls or reading a book. They can maintain connections to family & loved ones... and are encouraged to do that. They can learn valuable skills, study, etc. ALL of those things will serve to help them adjust to living a PRODUCTIVE life, and hopefully NEVER offend again! :) I think the whole idea is fantastic. :) Give them a purpose, keep them connected to the "outside" so when their time has been served, the transition isn't so jarring! I sure hope that MANY MORE prisons will start to implement these ideas! I consider it a huge WIN-WIN when there can be such a significant decrease in recidivism! :) BRAVO!
I like that the prison is secure, is hightech but also does focus on mental wellbeing and not just punishment of the prisoners which i think helps them the best to get onto the right path again
I’m a huge tech nerd but even other channels have long spec sheet videos, but yours are really fun and engaging keep up the work! Also this is a pretty sick video!!
It’s crazy how secure it is that he has to blur stuff out. He can’t even show certain things because if he does then the whole prison could be compromised. It’s kind of cool/crazy how much security there is like over 1000 cameras that’s just impressive at this point. They made sure nobody was getting out.

Thanks for this video. It is great to see more videos on how tech is used in areas of the world we may not have access to.
Makes a change from the usual tech reviews. I found it fascinating. Really well made mini documentary!!!

This is literally a documentary
It’s also awful
@@twigs4611 it's not. It's average but not a bad one.
Do you one better. There’s a correlation between poverty and crime. Imagine they threw even half the money and resources at poverty that they did at crime.
Jesus loves you he died for everyone's sins, he is coming soon, if you want to receive Jesus as the lord and savior of your life say this and believe in your heart, say: Jesus today I accept you as the lord of my life come in my life I believe that you are the Son of GOD and that you died for my sins and that you rose up on the third day, thank you that I am now a child of GOD and that my sins are forgiven amen.

Keep up the great work, this prison was insane. I hope to see more videos coming soon, Keep up the great work.
It's amazing how a prison provides more accommodations and opportunities than most government do to societies at large. I've experienced first hand how hard it was (still is, since I'm an unemployed adult) to find a job, seeing how this particular prison prepares the inmates to rejoin the society, It's crazy that I even said this but I couldn't help but feel a little jealous. that workshop is a dream, since I want to learn a lot of skills
go to UK and commit a crime i guess
Its dumb how much privilege they're giving to these criminals considering that these prisoners have access to things that a lot of good, law abiding people don't and probably never will. Society is doomed.
@@Justakattothat’s not true … majority of people in the uk have access to all their needs and the majority of prisons are not what this video shows
So don’t be a fool
@dumpbye2126 they are definitely a American so I wouldn't really take anything they say as good
@syd8477 An American here. So many European countries - and even Canada - believe in actually rehabilitating those convicted of crimes except in the very horrendous cases. I think the way our American culture thinks all criminals are just going to change by being incarcerated in terrible conditions is frankly crazy. God Bless You and I pray you find work and success in all areas of your life. Don't give up; search for resources to help you get vocational training.
As somebody who works in government security, I am beyond impressed by how much work went into this.
The implications of this type of research goes well beyond just security. Many of these technologies are groundbreaking for accessibility and mental health.
I love how Arun doesn't do any long and boring intro's. He just gets straight to the topic, so that after a few seconds your already feel like your in the middle of the subject. Always love your video's buddy! Thanks a lot for the effort you put into them every single time!🔥❤
Tell me about it..ugh.
holy... mate, this video is awesome. This has to be one of the best videos I have enjoyed the most.
It is amazing to see this and how prisons are using tech.
Keep up the awesome work, and props for you for getting access to the prison to show us. Usually I thought that would be a big no no by them.
Honestly, if I were in a prison like this, I wouldn’t even try to escape
same bro, it be cool
I can do crime to go to that prison
Tbh I will take it as a challenge to escape (only do it if I were sentenced for life)
it is far better than where i live
Yeah but did u forget that people living in prison committed real crimes well atleast 75% of them
@@nimja_op6894...and you may not know that many are "free" who commited crimes...and havent gotten caught.
When you make prison labor then prisoners compete with regular citizens and since slave labor is cheaper it's an incentive to lock people up.
@@nimja_op6894
exactly, this prison is disappointing.
I really like this new style of content ❤
I also like the fact that it's in the UK 😅
And I respect the effort you put in to get access to the prison 🙏
Congrats on 17M 🎉😮
The prison was recently built and is in Leicester
Now he's just got to get out.
One of the best prison videos I have seen so far!! well done to the director for letting you show us around, to all the staff and of to you for taking the time. really enjoyed this i must say

Really wasn't expecting this one, I have to say Arun. But that was really informative and enjoyable. A deep delve into a world most of us will never see.

I must say it is very refreshing to hear people talk about tech not being the future of something. I'm not even joking.
This is truly incredible to see. I really hope more prisons move to systems like this. Soo many could be rehabilitated or brought back into society but the current systems fail people far more often then they seem to help.
Just a really cool video. The tech and design is really cool.
As a prisoner here, this information was very useful.
Same here, found out I could just run away when godzilla sends an EMP to the prison.
Love your work! Hope you keep making videos like this in between the reviews and comparisons. It's very refreshing.

Oh my dear, that man has a soothing voice and vocal mannerisms that simply makes it a joy to listen to him, explaining all of their tech.
He's also suspiciously "mi6"-y.
Put Michael Scofield in here😂
10:24 this is probably the most effective example of how non-tech prisons can upgrade their security massively for relatively cheap. Just have a few of these on rotation (for charging purposes) and one guard's job be to fly a drone around all the time - having that aerial surveillance 24/7 is not only a huge deterrent but can immediately spot an escape attempt or fight
It was great to give you a unique tour of how our prisons like HMP Fosse Way use innovative technology! 🤖
hi ministry of justice
Good public outreach MoJ - I found this really interesting and would love to see more like this
WOW that was a surprise. How the heck you thought in showing a prision? This must be one of the best videos of this channel so far. Congratulations!
honestly that seems like the way forward for prisons, less about brutal draconian punishments and more about education and preparing those people to reenter society as fully reformed and valuable members of it.
Thanks for the tour Aaron, this high tech prison is really mind blowing…& yea, is really good to let the prisoner keep in touch with their family, makes them feel they are not left behind from the family & society…
Escaping this prison would be an amazing movie plot
I don’t think even Michael Scofield can escape this prison
Can’t wait to see MKBHD do a review on Rikers Island and how some prisoner will tell him it’s great for a chance at a reduced sentence!
Hey Arran! It's such a nice change from your other content, which I love. Do you plan on creating more like this? Maybe some similar topics relating to technology?
I don't see why the comments think this is dystopian, sure, it's weird he's doing a prison video, but the prison itself is pretty great.
It’s because a he is being paid to do this
Because their influencer grifter that does their thinking for them used this video as an excuse to complain about prisons.

That fence is useless. Kids at my school can climb the brick fucking wall. Pretty sure any imprisoned former rock climber could scale that fence.
@@thesnowman2509 On that score, I don't see a roof, and there are drones that can carry a person. Not only that but they can go where cars/helicopters/boats/pedestrians cannot go. Jails of the future will be forced to think 3D.
Can we just appreciate all the work he puts in for us viewers, props to arun!
Honestly this was phenomenally insightful. Loved the video.
