It’s good to see Ms. Lee still competing in pro tournaments. I’m not familiar with Ms. Hofstatter, but I’m going to start following her tournament trail, as well. The more pro women I watch, the better I shoot (I think 😉), or at least I have more confidence at the pool table . . . and the confidence level translates into better shooting. Female role models/mentors are desperately needed in billiards, as well as other sports, but particularly in billiards - a male-dominated sport, and a sport where women and men can also compete directly against each other. quiet a strange rule. here in europe it is always a foul with ball in hand for the opponent, if you ,move a ball illegal. and jeanette lee moved the 6 illegal in the last game. are there different rules in USA???
Pocket billiards is a wonderful pastime but I will never understand why so many men and women pursue professional careers in pool when only a handful ever make a decent living from the sport.
Many make a decent living. You just have to be good at it. The more you win, the more endorsements you get thanks to your name becoming well known around the Pool Community. Winning tournaments or even coming in 2nd place earns you cash. You can come in 2nd place in 20 small time tournaments and become semi-rich if you handle your money well. Then you start hitting the Olympics and the big leagues, even if you come in 2nd, you're set financially.
A couple of things... 1. Gerda did not have any problems with a twitchy arm...If that was the case,she would not have shot better later on in the game...Which suggests that Gerda was not warmed up properly...but nice attempt to save face... 2. Why on earth did officials not stop audience members from using flash...That is a good way to blind one of your players...One of the commentators should have announced,"Please turn off flash when snapping pictures"... 3. Pool tables are too close to each other...How do you expect Gerda and Jeanette to shoot properly when you have other players right next to them...Seriously,you should put up partition walls to isolate each pool table...So players can focus on their own game,instead of being distracted by neighboring games... 4. Why do players have to rack the balls themselves...If this is a professional tournament...You should have an official referee performing these actions...Do you see NFL players calling their own penalties...Seriously,get with the program... What if the cue ball required cleaning,a quarrel broke out between players...Hint: Earl Strickland...Or a host of other things...See number 4...You have an official referee for a reason... Lastly,why do commentators not announce the rules of each tournament taking place...Like do players have to call every shot,or just not obvious shots...Are alternate breaks in effect or does the winner break... Don't mean to be so hard on yall..I am just very passionate about professionalism in sports...As well as rooting for my favorite player Jeanette Lee to win...
