In an interview Brandon said that the first time he heard himself really sing, in a recording studio for their demo, he left the building and almost couldn't do it. THANK GOODNESS he stuck with it! Living legends.
I love both bands: RHCP and Incubus. Thanks for this video. It really helped me realize that they had much in common in the origins. Both sounds and styles can be merged into each other :) I do that in my band when playing the guitar as I’m influenced by both bands.

Damn, Dirk with that 1980s Fender Aerodyne Jazz Bass (aka the “Duff” signature Fender bass that it is commonly known today) funking around with Brandon, Mike and Jose in 1991. That is THE PEAK 90s FUNK METAL sound! Man, that sound needs a comeback someday.
I bet the guys get a KICK out of this, I sure do!!! It is remarkable how far they have come. I've been a fan since 1999, I'm with you guys until the end!
I always got a bit of a RHCP and Faith No More vibe from early Incubus.....and this basically confirms it lol. It's always cool to see how great artists start out....usually imitating what they love. But Incubus definitely went on to become something truly unique. Such a vastly underrated band. I still remember when Make Yourself came out. I was in high school and damn did it ever speak to me. I was basically into nu-metal at the time....cuz, you know, it was the late 90s and TRL and whatnot... While some of that music still holds up.....early Korn, Orgy's first two albums, Everything Tool and Deftones ever made, etc....most of it is pretty damn silly in retrospect. But somehow Incubus were lumped into that whole nu-metal thing...even though they weren't quite that. I remember being super interested in how jazzy it all sounded....it was much more influenced by things like funk and reggae and dub and jazz and weird cool r&b flavors....while ALSO having a bit of that nu-metal chunkiness. Anyone remember that Family Values 98(or was it 99?) tour album? The one with Incubus and Orgy and Korn and Limp Bizkit on it? lol....what a combo. I remember New Skin absolutely blowing my mind. Never heard anything quite that frenetic and strange....while having such an epic pretty chorus. Ok....I'll stop ranting about the past.... :P

Dirk Lance at that time was a fundamental part of the sound of the band, who departed worth both the creative vein of new sounds. But I always expect to return to create more funk songs as before.

Ha wow so going off the briefly visible house number on above the right hand garage door I was able to find this house. It's 26051 Mulholland hwy. I wonder if it's one of the guys houses or somebody they went to school with? Either way it hasn't changed much at all! Pics on zillow show the interior and it looks like it hasn't been updated since the 70s. Says it Sold for over a mill in 2017. EDIT upon further investigation I found this to be a former address of one charles boyd aka Chuck Mulholland aka Brandon's dad,so this is Brandon's childhood home and explains where the Mulholland came from in chuck Mulholland.
