I don't get it. Why do people thumbs down these videos? Johnny is so kind and humble. He has been a life long gamer and he is informative about video games. He deserves more respect.
The haul you produce when you go down memory lane Happy is amazing :) Just a very fun video and as a 47 year old whom also started with the first of the genre it makes me smile to see you go thru some of your stuff :).
Dear Johnny, you guys should consider record some of your D&D games as a podcast. I bet lots of people would like to listen to this...... also, I may animate some funny parts on my spare time (I'm a professional animator). Anyway, keep up the good work!
Yeah I have that memory recall thing for video games especially. Hearing the Resident Evil 2 soundtrack will always take me back to spending the night at my older brothers apartment playing that game.
@Elb Vidya Didn't even think about that scenario..people buying used copies..or in your case even a new copy..not getting their download codes for X2. I bought mine off playasia for less than it cost here plus I got it early because the game released earlier over there.
Thanks for the tip but with postage costs it's the same way if I payed extra locally so it's the same thing really. Or the postage is miraculosly free now on playasia?
I remember every detail too! going to Toys R Us with my dad to buy an SMS, had to get the small paper ticket, the isle was all glass on both sides with other consoles and stuff, memories of memories tied by the love of gaming. =)
Dude! That isle of games and consoles in Toys R Us is engrained forever in my head! Magical times and awesome memories! I remember once digging around the internet and finding just one really good picture of it.
Glad you like the shirts! I hope they fit. Thanks for the shout out as well, it's much appreciated. As long as new pop up shops keep appearing I'll definitely be checking them out. So far I've been to Neo-Geo Land, traveling with Cowboy Bebop, Gridman x Ultraman, Mega Zone 23, and Love Live. I'm always excited to see what pops up next, fingers crossed for Godzilla or Akira themed shops.
Man, I love your videos!! Keep doing what you do, brother!! Everything you do, you do with so much damn heart, it translates to your videos. Love the enthusiasm and your love of the medium!
Awesome vid dude. It’s funny I was in Japan in mid June planning to visit that pop up shop and it was closed! Jim’s channel is awesome as well . It’s great to see a network of people who are passionate and enjoy games.
I get super nostalgic with the Switch. It came out senior year of HS and I grew with the console as an adult. I remember shortly before the pandemic sinking hours into Xenoblade 2 because i had so much free time. It is such a different nostalgia than my childhood gaming memories.
I'm the same way with my memory! I think you're totally right about why too. I imagine that's how it works for anybody really into any particular hobby.
Funny how you mentioned how most of your past memories relate to video games as I too have found this to be true so much so that I’ve recently I’ve started blogging my early gaming memories. I remember buying FF7 in the late 90’s and eating a bowl of pea and ham soup with crumpets for lunch that day or the time first playing Actraiser on my SNES after waiting over an hour in the rain for my parents to return home with the front door key to let me in. It certainly is strange how these old gaming memories allow me to piece together my past year by year.
So true on the memory thing at the beginning of the video! I remember playing Starfox for the first time at a freind's house, it was like 8pm and we were eating home made chili dip and homemade tortilla chips, so good. It's so funny that we remember the small things. I might have to pick up that Master System book, it looks pretty amazing!
I think you make amazing videos... Your passion comes through everytime you make a video. The games you talk about makes me feel nostalgic! By far you make the best video game videos on TH-cam!! Keep up the good work and continue making these great videos.
I totally get the same nostalgia with certain games. I remember the weather outside, the smell in the air of woodsmoke or a spring breeze (I played the entirety of final fantasy 7 during spring break when it came out, that time of year always takes me back to that game) and all sorts of little details. I love it
I’m the same way on memories with games. Specifically, gaming from 1995-2007. I still what was going on in my life during big game and console releases.
@@HappyConsoleGamer Another Yorkshire lad. Class. Some of my family lives in Canada as well so small world. Soon as a heard one episode you came from Wakefield I was shocked. You really did lose that accent. I'd have never guessed you were a Yorkshire bred.
I'm the exact same with the video game memory thing. I can remember clearly going and picking up certain games at launch day spanning back 20+ years. I don't really seem to have that connection with newer games though, mainly the SNES & PS1 era.
I also remember many things around the time when I played certain video games. I have so many that are tide to my memorys of what was going on during that time when I played that one game.
I’ll be recording a Pickups video soon, hard to keep up with them. Today I can home with around 57 games. Tomorrow meeting a guy buying all boxed pc games and got about 4 EBay orders coming in with nes and Atari games. As far as new games, got Around 40 preordered for this year into 2020. Hopefully starting my big music pickups series by episode (85,000 cds) covering all genres.
*I can remember when I got Street Fighter Alpha 2 for SNES. I was living in India for 1/2 a year, and I came back a month after X-mas, and there it was, sitting under the tree a month later lol*
I still remember how i got my copy of LTTP. Was my bday and my mom promised me a game. That was a huge deal to me because except Christmas i never really got games since they were so expensive and we weren't very well off. Thing was she asked "What do you want?" and being pretty young i had no idea what games were out or what was popular. So i just said "Surprise me" I never figured i'd get such a damn awesome game.I treasured it,i still own it,i played it for years, over and over. I still remember getting in from school, excitedly running into the kitchen to see what she got me. I had this trend, which is odd now days, where i would drink in the box art, read everything on the back, open the manual, savour the smell,i'd read the intro story, carefully read each page, absorb the fantastic artwork, the anticipation would build the entire time,it was almost a religious experience in a sense. And only then, would i then play it for my first time. Safe to say my mind was blown.
I was so excited for FFX on the Switch that I ordered it from overseas so I could get the version with both games on the physical cart. Still love this duology so much.
As a record collector I'd say return that damaged album. Even a very slight warp will affect playback. Sometimes the warp isnt always visible to the naked eye.
Oh man, nothing worse than getting damaged vinyl packaging. I got my copies of the RE1 and RE2's vinyls the other day, and thankfully they weren't damaged, but damn, they do sound great!
I love Master System too and I'll searching for this book. In the past Master System was more popular than NES in Brazil because They made a partner with a Brazilian company Tec Toy. Very Nostalgic.
23:24 for any interested in the mug, after some digging I found it on eBay then figured it was probably just a dropship list from Amazon so I cross-referenced and found it there as well. Same seller on both (likly just dropshipping on eBay from their own amazon fulfilled inventory) and same price. Amazon: smile.amazon.com/dp/B07PNYMNTH & eBay: www.ebay.com/itm/392261055319
I also bought the curse of the moon physical copy. I bought the normal and the special edition version both for PS4. of course the special edition version is the one with the disc loose inside the case! honestly........wtf. Idk if I should open it to put the disc properly in it's holder or not. also, link to Jim's channel would be nice.
FF13 is one for me that I think k a lot of people will come back to and think more fondly of it... That world and backstory!! I loved it for the start....really liked lightning returns!
"Am i PIMPIN' this?! Damn right I am!!" love all that cool stuff my god man! good shit. Also love that t-shirt you'll always be the Happy Solid Snake to me hahaha :)
I think video games are uniquely good at creating memories because they engage so many parts of the brain. Audio, visual, and you're not just passively consuming it your brain is active and aware.
Gotta love Jim. He's one of the nicest guys around. We had a Skype call a few years back, drinking some beers and talking about 80's horror movies. Good times. 😎
Speaking of both D&D and Penny Arcade (as well as Japan), I got both the limited edition box set and standard edition book versions of Goblin Slayer! TRPG. It's a long story on why I got it. But I do find it odd that the LIMITED edition box set is easier to find than the book by itself. The series' "controversy" aside, the whole world is a giant tabletop RPG campaign. One where the characters are given reference "names" if they do not have a nickname. Which has me wonder if there is a character in that world called 'Happy Quest Adventurer.' And if he talks to others about the items he has obtained during these quests, etc. It's possible seeing how many references can be found in that series.
You got the US Edition? It only has Final Fantasy X on the Cartridge you should've asked for the multi language Asia edition both games are on the cartridge in that version
I’m glad Kim got a chance to finish FF12. It takes such a long time for the plot to build, but once it does: HOLY BALLS! The game itself is a lot like reading an old fantasy novel. I love the use of old English. It’s worth finishing.
I also love X-2, but mostly the HD/International version which added a ton of content. X-2's story is cheesy for sure, but I love the gameplay.
