It's definitely a good alternative to print and cut - which I have yet to do successfully! It's on the list of "must learn". But I have so much cardstock to use up first! 😘
Thankyou, Janice. Many times, if the Cricut image looks too difficult with too many little pieces, I tend to not use them... but now, with this little trick I'll not skip over them.
It's amazing how a little hack can make such a big difference when it comes to placing all those pieces on an image. I'm so glad you found this helpful Tina.
Thanks for the bookmark! I'm so glad you found the hack helpful. Making an overlay makes it so easy and stress free when adhering all the little pieces of some of the detailed images.
Can you also keep the light & dark blues as a complete layers just cutting thru one layer but not the other so that you don’t have to fiddle with individual letter cuts? That would eliminate some of your steps. I believe it’s similar to how they make the 3D scenes. I don’t have a Cricut so I don’t know if I am correct about this idea.
Hi Sidney, thanks for thinking through how this could possibly be made easier. You would need to weld the colours in the letters together with strips of rectangles to make them all cut out in one piece to be able to layer and show different colours under the overlay. Because the overlay piece has very fine lines it would be pretty much impossible to make this work for this particular image - but may work for others that have more room to hide the pieces attaching the letters under an overlay. It could definitely be done if all the letters were one colour and then it could be one piece to lay under the overlay. It took no time at all to adhere the individual letters - especially as the overlay provided the perfect guide to slotting them in.
Janice, when you assembled the back to school words, did you glue the middles of the B and the Os back in, or just us the base layer and not glue those inside pieces back in?
Thank you! I love when you show us these types of tips and tricks😊
I'm so glad you enjoy my Cricut hacks/tips Janie. It's always fun to experiment and play in Design Space.
Can’t wait to watch this again when I have time to learn more. Thank you!
I hope you enjoy rewatching and get some creative time to play with this hack to make adhering SVGs/Cricut images so much easier!
Brilliant! I usually turn it all to print and cut if it has too many layers, thanks for showing me a different way to do things!

I didn't use the middles of the B & O in and you really can't tell at all on the layout/finished piece.
