Thank you...I'm half Okinawan and one of my greatest pleasures in life was returning 45 years later with my wife, mother and brothers. Thank you for the great video.
This is where our daughter wants to go on her double digits birthday in 3 years. Thank you for showing us all the things we can do as a family on the island 💜
Thanks for this video. Really comprehensive, and I like the honesty about experience vs. expectation/hype. I'm actually watching to prepare for asking my students about Okinawa when they get back from going there. A lot of the peak sights in Japan seem to be seasonal. That waterfall would be fuller when the lake it feeds from is fuller and of course, the sunset depends on the weather that day. Even more so when it comes to cherry blossoms and autumn leaves! Yet especially the latter, the peak is actually really short and hard to catch. I think with a lot of tourism we are fed images of ideal scenes, which in reality are a special treat for that place and not to be expected too much for a usual visit. I liked the laid back atmosphere in Okainawa and the snorkelling. The sightseeing was a little dull for me, maybe because the buildings were kept as they survived, rather than being restored to their former glory. My visual highlight was going snorkelling, as that undersea world is always in vivid technicolour and a great memory for me.
Thanks for the great tips. I am in Okinawa now. I used the link to reserve the ferry to Tokashiki. It was great, I snorkeled off the Aharen beach with family. It was a beautiful day.
Amazing video! Planning our trip to Japan for this Spring. We were thinking of going in May. Do you recommend Okinawa in May? Or would it be better at the end of April to avoid as many rain showers?
We went in mid May and only had 1 really rainy day where we couldn’t go out. But there were some cloudy days and it’s not so fun when it’s cloudy at the beach! Otherwise, the days were sunny and hot!
@@eileensworld I had a wonderful time, as it was my first time out of the states. My daughter is currently living on Okinawa, so she drove me all over the island. I stayed at the AQUA CITTA hotel, it was a very pleasant experience. I will be going back.
where would you say is the best location to stay on the island? down near Naha or up north (we wont be renting a car).plan on seeing Aharen or Furuzamami Beach, American Village, Aquarium, Shuri Castle, Kokusai Dori.
Hi Eileen, we just stumbled upon your video and felt a little bit reliefed regarding our planning to visit Okinawa by end of may. We plan to go from 24th of may until 3rd of june 2024 but we are a little bit worried about the weather conditions. We read that this is during the rain taifun season, but now we saw your video and saw the good and sunny weather. What is your experience during end of may? Can you recommend it? Thanks in advance!
We stayed for 8 days which is probably longer than most who visit Okinawa. We had 1.5 where it rained so much we stayed inside. Luckily we had other days left to do and see more things. If you’re only visiting for a super short time - you may risk wasting some days if there’s rain
Hello Oqinawa Japan !!!!!! How are you my new friend?????? Good morning !!!!!!! So amazing this island to Japan and Aguavarium with the delfins!!!!!! So nice landscape!!!!!! Have a nice day for you in Japan !!!!!! Arigatogozaimas !!!!!!!! 13:58
The weather will a lot cooler (not cold) so it depends on what kinds of activities you want to do. Some beaches may not be open for swimming during that time of the year. If you don’t care for that and just want to shop, eat, and visit the historical attractions, the weather in December sounds ideal!
Hi Eileen, thank you for this very comprehensive video :) I was searching for some current info about Okinawa travel (post pandemic), but a lot of videos just list attractions and not give much practical info, like how to use the bus :) I have a question: is Suica card going to work in vending machines in Okinawa? Or just Okika? We'll be in Tokyo for 5 days and were planning to get a Suica for convenience, but I'm not sure it's worth it if it's not gonna work later... Thank you for this amazing guide :)
Hi Eileen love your video! I am planning to go this March, can I know where you rent the car? And what documents required for the rent? Thank you so much🥰
Thanks for sharing this. This is the first truly informative video I've seen for travelers - even giving insight into using public transport, etc. This was one of my main concerns because in most of Japan there are no English translations and public transport people don't speak English, so it can be very confusing and stressful. It looks like in Okinawa there is English signage everywhere, and English translations for stops on the buses, and on digital displays in the buses to let you know where you are. That makes things so much easier for someone who wants to spend time there but doesn't speak Japanese. Do you happen to know if there are places in Okinawa that do monthly rentals for visitors who want to come there for a longer term stay? These are virtually impossible to find in Japan proper, and it is difficult to get anything without signing a yearly contract there. But Okinawa looks like a great place to just come and live short term for 3 months a year. And I can enter Japan on the visa free pass for three months, which makes it very convenient. I can also see from your airbnb that accomdations there are much more spacious and much more suited to longterm stay - big fridge, nice stove, everything - but airbnb would be too expensive for a multi-month stay...
It makes me happy to hear that you found my video helpful! My only advice is to rent an airbnb, but since you said that’s too expensive, I unfortunately don’t have any other recommendations 😕. Month long stays normally come with a a discount, perhaps that could work for your budget?
ahhh, see as a marine who was stationed on Oki I can personally verify, the rice to beef ratio is spot on, (the rice helps absorb the alcohol, lol) OORAH *edit: YOU DIDN'T GO TO COCO ICHIBANYA?!?!?!?! epic fail, you have no idea how good curry is until you've been to coco's. I'd pay A LOT for another chicken curry LVL 4. so good
I heard that Okinawa suffered a lot from typhoons. I'm worried that going as a tourist will be a nuisance to the people of Okinawa. I wonder if it will be okay to go at the end of September...😢
@@eileensworldbabe there is nothing Mexican to a ‘Taco rice’ or ‘Taco bowl’. This is 100% American. In Mexico they don’t even sell that! ~Just saying since it is very sad for us, Mexicans, that our cuisine gets insulted that way :(

Iv lived all over the world. And Okinawa was hands down the best living. I cant wait to go back to visit.
What part of Okinawa did you live in?
I lived there as a kid and planning to go back next year! It’s a place so close to my heart.

How are the shower rooms at the beaches if any? Like how do you rinse off after going snorkeling?
The restaurants/small hotels my the beach have showers you can use. There is a charge.

What month is recorded :)?
I went in May
Thank you. I have one more question about vaccinations and mosquitos. Has there been many of them at this time of year?
our Airbnb by right by a river so we only encountered mosquitos if we were out during sunset. Otherwise, no issues

Was there? 😅😅😅
Could I buy a bus pass and use it to tap on buses in Okinawa instead of just cash?
