Awesome, I have to learn more about this and buy one of these for when there's no ground swell. There's almost always wind swell here, like in this vid, and I can catch the swell on my paddleboard. Can you just keep carving if you catch those swell on one of these foils?
Sick! I just got some AFS foils to test myself. Today first Foil Drive assisted SUP foiling session on breaking waves with a Silk 650 and loved it! The harder you push it, the better it goes. The setup is stiff! I also got a Silk 850 and thought it was going to be too big for breaking waves, but now I saw this (and read the comments) and I'm gonna try it on a downwinder and compare it to the Pure HA800 that I also got. You tried that one? Can you compare? Btw, 16 days out of the water to recover from a knee injury felt like 16 months without sex! LOL
Yeh really good. Love the stiffness of them and the stability. The carving on the silk is amazing. Completely different to the pure. Each have their benefits 🤙🏼
@@misterbennetts How would you compare and contrast the Silk vs. Pure? I'm seriously considering AFS. Ideally would be something surfy with the glide of the Kujira 1095 but faster, thinner, and with a bit narrower span so I can wing it too.
@@ericjhoppe1 The Silk is just a kujira on steroids. I haven't ridden the 1050, so Im not sure how it compares to the 1095 kujira, but the 850 surfs unreal and pumps pretty good, much better then the Kujira 2 950. The overall construction of the AFS is on the mikes lab level, it's unbelievably stiff and responsive. The Pure has way more glide, but a high stall speed so you need to be going fast.
Yeh it’s hard to even give anyone the perspective without being out there. Some of the biggest troughs. My board is 8 foot long and the troughs are nearly twice as big. So wild! Surprisingly easy to get up kneeling clubby style with this board. I forgot my webbed gloves and was even able to do it without them. Just bare hands. It paddles unreal!
so without the paddle, you either need more wind (bigger bumps) or you need to ride a bigger foil to get up. The paddle is way more powerful (hence why guys like Zane and James can flat water start tiny wings). But if the wind is decent and you have a long narrow board, it’s surprisingly easy. 🤙🏼
So so so much difference. It’s so much stiffer, stabler and more responsive. It has way more low end - the 850 silk has more low end than the 950 k2. It’s one of, it not the best surf foil I’ve ridden. Really really good!
So you paddle on your knees then jump/stand up as soon as you feel you have enough speed to pump/lift on the foil ? You need to make a video explaining this technique ! it looks amazing and might be the future !@@misterbennetts

Yep you sure can. Once you’re on foil you can ride wind bumps for as long as you can stand there! 🤙🏼

Any downside to hand paddle vs regular paddle? Seems like one less thing to have to deal with.

U notice the difference in stiffness between the kj2 and silk? Its the same exact front wing design right? Just stiffer construction?

Would you get a longer mast (like NL V2) than the stock afs 80 for towing?
Yeh definitely finding I need a longer mast for towing and even down winding. AFS are coming out with an 85 soon 👍🏼

The AFS mast is really good. I’d have to try a No Limitz to compare them first. Not sure if AFS do that connection though.
