Ouch! This was the first Rose Bowl I watched. I was thrilled to see Ohio State play UCLA because of the result in the regular season. UCLA won the rematch after losing decisively earlier. This game demonstrated how unpredictable Sports are. And I was introduced to a lifetime of good moments and a lot of heartbreak in being an Ohio State fan. Also I think Arizona State should have won the Natty in 75 since they were undefeated. Oklahoma won the title with one loss.
@@michaelthompson729 Split title in 1974. AP for Oklahoma, UPI (coaches) for USC. The latter wouldn't consider Oklahoma since they were still on probation.
Yes 💯 me as well, I was also 10 years old & low & behold, 8 1/2 years later I attended UCLA '84-'88 & then round 2, '97-'01. I had a blast both times I attended Bruinville, Westwood Memories, went to school with Reggie Miller all 4 Years & Troy Aikman for 1 Year 🩵💙🇺🇲👏😁🏈🏈
57:29 - Sergio Franchi for Plymouth Volare. 1:06:00 - NBC legend Bob Hope for Texaco. 1:11:40 - (attempting to correct an earlier comment) Frank Bonner, later Herb Tarlek from "WKRP in Cincinnati", for McDonald's.
First day of the infamous NBC "N" logo. Tom Snyder said it best "...example of non-creative people (NBC execs.) trying to do something creative (and failing)..." Richard Bonner before "WKRP" at the end of Big Mac ad, the others were also actors including the guy in white sweater who looks a lot like Bill Russell's golf partner in the Bell System ad as well. The Cali. dream is now - get out while you can...
College coaches that go to the NFL usually draft at their old college. John McKay went to Tampa Bay. He normally drafted at USC. So did everyone else.LOL!! Jimmy Johnson went to The Cowboys after coaching at Miami. And of course, he had a Miami pipeline. So what Vernil did, looking at UCLA first for talent, was normal.

Wow!
I was 10 years old when this game was played. Life seemed so much simpler back then

It was the year of "Bicentenniality." Yes, it was a great time to be a kid.

15:06 short version of the best NBC Sports open ever.
❤️ oldies college football 1970s styles ❤️ ohio state& ucla fight songs 😊
You know who was watching this game? Philadelphia Eagles Owner Leonard Tose. I wonder why?
Curt Gowdy and Al DeRogatis - the voices of my youth.
Maybe best uniform bowl ever
Archie Griffin would've been amazing in the CFL. His size was an issue in the NFL.

4:42 - Grilling the steaks for 20 minutes and counting. Those things were probably like leather by the time he pulled them off the grill.
I was there's usc fan I am ucla s finest hour in football sat in tunnel 17 friends dad was a buckeye donor people sitting around me were shocked
This got Dick Vermeil hired by the Eagles
When did they stop introducing the starters live on the field before the game?
I believe only ABC did that....NBC covered the Rose Bowl back then
Could you have had a flatter delivery during the Pregame show?
Its no wonder why the two hosts disappeared shortly thereafter.
Actually Ross Porter would be known in SO Cal working alongside the great Vin Scully on Dodger Baseball games
