I really did find this very informative and after seeing the examples in your video it’s now convinced me to get this lens next. I’ve had the X-T2 for about 6 months and use the 16mm f1.4 for most of the time shooting landscape and some still life, the 80mm macro would be a good alternative for all types of photography. All I have to do now is convince my darling wife how absolutely essential this new acquisition is. Thanks for a very interesting and enjoyable introduction to this must have glass. I’ve thumbs upped and subscribed.
Hey William, thank you very much for the kind words. Also we wish you good luck on your convincing. I am sure you will be able to get it. Please check in with us later to share your thoughts!
Nice review and videos! As a landscape and product photographer using this (and other) Fujinon XF lens, I was a bit surprised at one comment you made regarding sharpness as compared to the XF50-140 when taking portraits. You said that sharpess between the two lenses was comparable. As I've said many times that the XF80mm f/2.8 Macro is the sharpest lens I've ever used in 40 years of photgraphy, (with the XF90 f/2 being a close seond), your comment undoubtedly speaks to the very high image quality of the XF50-140. When I shoot products and use focus stacking with the 80mm, the X-T3, and a very solid tripod, I get images that surpass FF in detail rendition, and approach medium format in the amount of detail. So, I think perhaps an emphasis on the extreme sharpness for macro/product work would be helpful for those considering this awesome lens. Thanks again!
thanks for your comment! 40 years! that is impressive! would love to see some of your work. as to the lenses, i understand what you mean and must agree. 80mm is just crazy sharp!
Probably the sharpest macro lens you will get on a APS-C camera. The biggest drawback next to the price is its weight which is pretty hefty (around 800 grams) if you want to take it with you an entire day. I also got the 16mm which is also an excellent semi macro lens, but the difference with the 80mm is quite large. The 16mm is a very good choice if you want to photograph flowers. The moment you want to capture insects the 16mm will require you to stand way too close making it very impractical. That leaves the 80mm as the only available choice. There are however other excellent third party macro lenses such as the Laowa 65mm, but they only have manual focus.
The XF 50-140 with the extension tube - mc ex 11 - shows quite a bit of color fringing - not on the 80 mm true macro… beyond that - the 80 mm is true 1:1 macro… the extension tube adapted 50-140 is nowhere near this

Great video...thanks. Wanted to note that this lens is not the only 1:1 macro for Fujifilm X. The superb Zeiss 50mm f2.8 Touit AF lens is also available in Fujifilm X mount.
Hey James! astia film simulation. no luts at all. just slight adjustments. editing software - Davinci Resolve 15. Microphone - just a cheap 10 pound lav mic from ebay :)
I think fujifilm apsc line up is the best among the best in apsc right now. Xt3 its amazing camera with great price and all xf lens is the best. Thank you for this review. Someday i will buy this macro lens after i get 90mm f2 hahaha.
@@A2KMedia ah right thanks, that's pretty impressive for wide open, maybe you could have included a few at other apertures...hoping to pick up this lens very soon as great deals at the moment but hoping for a small further reduction after xmas
Hi Thomas. I use both this Fujinon XF80mm f/2.8 Macro lens as well as a Samyang/Rokinon 8mm Fish-Eye II lens, so I have eperience with both companies. If you are interested in obtaining the absolute sharpest, most detail-rich images at Macro distances, I can say with certainty that this Fujinon XF80mm Macro is MUCH sharper than anything from Samyang/Rokinon. In fact, it's the sharpest lens I've ever used in 40 years of photgraphy!
@@A2KMedia Sorry :) I just find it very distracting. Watched another review before and thought maybe its just that batch that has the swirls :/ I hope fuji releases a few more macro lenses but its very unlikely.
that is fair. I must say the swirl is only there when using as portrait lens which it is not designed to be. As far as macro lens is concerned, it is clean and very sharp.

Just ordered one of these. Great review. I've seen one reviewer say its possibly too sharp for portraits, nothing that a cinesoft filter can't fix.
This lens is OUTSTANDING! The image stabilization give you the difference and it's perfect at all!

I'm considering this lens but I'm worried it's too much of a "niche" lens.
Is it a usable lens for day to day shooting?
@@AcidicDelusion you could use it as a portrait lens, too. edit: oh, now I see A2K said it too and tested :D

You can get macro extension tubes mcex with xf lenses and you can make close-ups for product photography with excellent detail!

Hi, thanks forcelle the precius review. Can you please say me if you uses a tripod forse the video? Best!
Super useful info for Fujifilm cameras. Thanks.
hey! thanks, glad we could help!
Thank you for the nice review. As a photographer for so many years, I just can't live without a macro lens in my bag.
Hey Tony. Glad you like it! Share some of your work with us.
Great video. Lovey images of the bees. A video using vintage or not so vintage no fuji macro lenses on the xt2 would be super interesting.
Thanks! glad you liked it! :)
Hello..I speak spanish..excelente video..saludos cordiales desde bogota Colombia

I love the cats eye bokeh of this lens and the 50mm f2. Shows the old vintage glass characteristics and Plus they both are crazy sharp.
+Chromatic Vision studio very nice

Nice review, expensive piece of kit but I would love one.just subscribed.
thanks!
Awesome Video , the 80 MM is my next lens, Really liked your Images and Video , Subscribed
Hey there! Its like music to our ears! thanks! you will love that lens!
Nice video. You did not mention the Fuji 60mm f2.4 lens, which offers 1:2 macro ability.
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it!
yay! thanks a lot! I have 80mm just a week ago.
you will love playing with it!
For sure 😁😁😁
I have one and for true macro it’s great with manual focus
Hi Nicholas! Nice! what do you normally take pictures of?
A2K I set up abstract situations in my studio with lights, prisms, colors gems , papers etc
I love your video. What profile did you use? Did you use luts? What is your editing software? What was your microphone set up?

@2:55 Wow!
was really fun to look through the lens! :)
Has anyone tried the canon 100mm macro with adapter on fuji?
I would love to hear about this too!

I agree. Its pretty epic and cost effective as well. Thanks for kind words. Glad you enjoyed it. Send us some pics when you get it!
Good review Dave Navarro !!👍
Cool video! However it was a shame that you didn´t also include the 60f2.4 in the comparison which is also quite useable as a portrait lens.
+Andres Cifuentes will have to check it out!
Could anyone tell me from which artist on artlist this music is from? I really like it, but was't able to find it yet.

Would be helpful if you gave the actual aperture of the shots...also were all these shots taken without using a fuji teleconverter?
Hey! apologies for the confusion. All the shots were taken wide open and yes no teleconverter in this video.

It is pretty nice especially if you do macro.
can you try to samyang 100mm macro with fuji?
We are looking to make partnership with more manufacturers so we could load and test them. Samyang is one of them - hope to get something soon.

6:30.... XF60mmF2.4?
Hey Phil. Nop. 80mm 2.8 macro =)
Very nice video! Now I want the 80 and 50-140 :D
Tom Kro , Thanks! both awesome lenses to have! pricey, but awesome! :)
Hi can you tell me what macro flash unit you can use on this I am not able to find anything :-)
Hey. I have seen some ring flashes used on lenses but to be honest never tried one myself.
great shots! So expensive 80mm macro... :(
Agreed
“Squished lemon bokeh” ;) it’s commonly referred to as “cats eye bokeh”
you say zoom all the time its a Prime :)
Oh!!! You got me good on this one. =)
We know what you meant. It’s a telephoto.
You devil, I was about to save some money... :))
Nope, not yet, go get that lens, it's an absolute joy to play with it on macro level AND it's great for portraits as well.
Swirly bokeh again...
hey. not a fan? :)

Nice info, unfortunately your audio detracts from the content... your voice is too low.
thanks, and yeah looking back at the older content - it has some issues :)
Why do photographers say ml when they mean mm? Annoying
Hey Emil. Haha had to think twice about this one. You are right we seem to be a little lazy and just blurb both =)
