GOOF BALL IDIOT !
I'm a fan of Efren Reyes yet his opponent was very formidable. I'm from the U.S.
Efren being Efren was sweet and gave her another chance in the fourth game he could’ve ran that rack out and won but he just gave her another chance at the one ball he’s so humble still at his age
yes, I agree, she certainly was.
I’ve played pool since I was so young and small, my father would lift me up to take shots at bars in Chicago. Even as a little kid I could see the cuts. I could see the geometry going on. I could see the banks. As a teenager in Chicago pool halls, I found the English and spin.
Efren Reyes was sometimes on TV in the 70’s when this young Filipino man had long hair and smoked cigarettes. Just a phenomenal player, I wanted to be like him. Humble, quiet and extremely smart back then, I knew he was a pool “God”. Not many in America liked him back then. Especially in America. They were racist and rooting for the white guy to win. My family is Chicago Irish and not racist at all, so we wanted Efren to kick ass! And he did! People back then would talk about the American and European pool stars, but I secretly wanted Efren to prove them so wrong. And he did.
After playing tournament pool for decades and not ever becoming a star, I watched Efrin get better and better as he got older.
Best in the world in my opinion and most others by now as well. I’ve traveled around the world not as a pool player so much, but I’d always wind up in some bar playing pool. I’d easily smoke the amateurs. Not for money, just for fun. A beer per game.
One thing I’ve noticed no matter where you go, is watch out for Filipino players. I’m sorry, they tend to be very good at it. I got smoked by Filipino pool sharks in Hawaii many times. I’m Irish, we’re pretty good on occasion but I’ve found Filipinos to be great always. They’re hard to beat. And they don’t talk much. They just perform flawlessly as if it’s second nature. Most are poor and not on the circuit. But they’re happy. So unlike Americans, it’s so fun to watch. They don’t celebrate a great shot, they’ve already seen the next few shots ahead.
One time, I was at a bar on Vancouver Island, Canada. These guys who looked like Native Canadians put their names on the board. I was running the table and wasn’t paying much attention to these Indians when I heard one of them look at me and say, “Okininam”
Not a nice word in Ilicano so I knew they were Filipino. I walked up to the one who sweared at me and said, “Como esta?”
(Filipinos understand Spanish) and he smiled, “Mahbute” (fine). We sat and had a few drinks and got to know eachother a while before playing. I had a house cue, theirs were custom and all in cases. I’m not going to win against them. I’m not going to bet more than a beer. So we just had fun. All four of them were easily professional pool players by American standards but mostly they did this for fun. We talked about Efren and they were kinda the same way. Just exquisitely skilled in the art of pool but had family and other more important things to tend to.
So if you think you’re good at pool and you run into a couple Filipinos with their own cues, think again.
Efren Reyes was the best in the world and finally after all these years, nobody questions that he was The Magician.
Thanks for sharing! Filipinos are unique cue artist indeed! Efren is the best example! I hope you can travel to Philippines! Good luck!
Thank you SeanCallaha for the kind words you said about Efren Reyes. Yes, he is indeed the GOAT of pool as far as I’m concern. He’s a kind, humble, generous and a real friendly guy that’s why he’s love by many especially in the Philippines.
@@EfrenReyesTV , Thank you. My traveling days are about over I’m afraid, but I had many Filipino friends and workmates while living in Hawaii for most my life. I was offered many times to go with them to the Philippines on vacations. My work wouldn’t allow such extended vacations so I just couldn’t go. Some of my pool playing friends were from Manila and others from distant provinces. I missed out on not going there but there’s such a huge Filipino population in Hawaii that I got to hang out with their families and really enjoy their culture. Areas like Kalihi and Waipahu on Oahu are almost exclusively Filipino, and known as “Little Manila” and the culture is more alive there than any place I’ve ever been. Besides being great pool players, they’re genuinely good people as well. And very smart. Always giving even when they have not much to give. Always smiling and laughing and joking around. Some are deadly serious about things but it’s not hard to make them drop their guard and break into laughter. I remember my friend Ernesto being an excellent pool player and we’d go to bars on Oahu to make money. He came up with the idea that we should walk in separately and pretend we didn’t know each other. I’m right-handed but for some reason I’ve always played pool left-handed. Ernesto is right-handed and he plays right-handed. We both had lots of cash in our pockets and the idea was to play with our weaker side and lose a bunch of money to each other, quickly paying the other guy when he won. The bar would see that we both sucked at pool and here come the challengers. We’d lose a couple games to keep them interested and when the time was right, we’d switched hands to our strong side. I pretended to be drunk and bet someone I could beat them left-handed. He thought that would be an easy bet and I’d sink balls over and over, each shot looking like dumb luck. Ernesto did the same and we walked out with everyone’s money. Great hustle but we couldn’t do in the same place twice. So we went all over the island until we ran out of bars and considered the hustle done. No sense getting killed, but it was fun while it lasted. Ernesto was a great friend who protected me when we’d be in the Filipino bars and areas most white people weren’t really allowed. Once they knew I was his friend, everything was okay.
Great times back in Hawaii and learned a lot about the vibrant Filipino culture there so visiting the Philippines didn’t seem all that necessary.
Most Filipinos who live in Hawaii describe the land and water and climate, very much like the Philippines. Except the Philippines is much cleaner and wilder and more beautiful. Wish I could have seen it.
Thanks for letting me run on and I’ve been subscribed to your channel for a few years I think. I usually don’t comment but I never get tired of watch my pool hero Efren Reyes (The Magician) performing his magic on the table. I heard he’s retired and has some physical ailments but I hope he’s doing okay. His legendary status in the world of pool will live on for as long as the game of pool does. I don’t think anyone will ever be as good as him. He was magic after all.
@@Woodstock271 Thank you for sharing your incredible journey and experiences. It's heartwarming to hear about your deep connection to Filipino culture and your adventures in Hawaii. Efren Reyes truly is a legend, and it's wonderful to have you as a longtime subscriber. Your support means a lot to us. We're glad you enjoy watching his magic on the table. Rest assured, his legacy will indeed endure. Wishing you all the best on your continued journey! Best regards to Ernesto, what a brilliant way to make some money!
It's worthwhile reading sir specially you're very appreciative of Filipinos expertise in the game of pool very well said. Cheers🍻

Thanks from Japan for posting this match.
Our pleasure! Best regards to Hijikata!
This game wasn't a nine ball match. In fact, it was a 10-ball match. Counting the ball, you can see it. Both players are excellent at the game of pool.
Efren was playing around with that last shot, and she knew it. Good fun and sportsmanship.
Great Videos THANK YOU ❤
Im From Cuse NY. Been watching pool tournament videos of Efren from many years now😮 hey def is the greatest of all time, I NEVER Seen btr, I really like watching him play against Bustamante, they're probably my two favorite to watch and two favorite to play against each other, no one really has a chance against Efren he has like a radar in his eye he knows every angle even when you think he doesn't have a shot he plays a safety Shot when most players would just try to "hit the ball" he can come off rails and do anything he wants to do, he started playing when he was a kid on wet tables outside in his Country that we're just crappy tables uneven and whatnot so that's 1 reason why he's so great now. A TRUE MAGICIAN💪🏼🎱

Watching from South Africa. Amazing match
From Austin, TX USA 🇺🇸 Efren is unreal. I’ve been watching him live since the 90’s and saw the “Z-shot” live with my dad, who was a brilliant billiards player. He stood up and walked out of the room “I didn’t think that was possible! He’s the greatest ever bar none!” Yes dad, and 17 years after your untimely death, he is still the greatest!
Hey there, from New Jersey ! I enjoy seeing Efren play ! Always something to learn, no matter how trivial it may be!😂
Glad you enjoy it!
Impressive. Especially the left handed shot by Efren in the 3 rack.
Catchy title, but she was too star-struck and respectful of him to have that kind of attitude.
My favorite female player.
She does have personality , unlike the stereotypical "black widow, ice-queens" that seem to pervade the sport of women's pool.

It wasn't a match. It was them having fun in a race to 3 for nothing. Also, no female player can beat the top male players consistently.

So neat and classy how Seeming Chen just gave up on the last shot and congratulated the Magician with respect.
I think a little bit of her conceding was that he could've just tapped the 9 ball in and followed down for the 10 ball. Instead, he chose to hit a 5 railer and got the same position on the 10 ball. The GOAT just GOATING!
@@jefferymgarcia9542 EXACTLY!!
Back in the days I use to play 9-ball games with 9 balls where the balls were racked in a diamond shape on the table. I see 10 balls in a 9-ball tournament as you stated. When did they change that?

9:40 I don't quite understand this safety shot. What was the hope, that he would get ball-in-hand again? Or, perhaps he was trying to foul her out?

The legendary Efren......Well done
Did they play recently in Vegas. He was home in Philippines last month. I missed him at the bar by a 1/2 day. I showed up the day after he played a local in a match. He signed the table but since they didn't seal it the greasy hands of players has pretty much erased it. Still my favorite place to go to and fun to play on a table the goat played on
Wonder why Efren played a safety with ball in hand? Also, I wish the video showed the cue ball contact, as it's very informative to see where on the ball they are hitting.
