Here is my opinion as international Buddies. I gotta say 3rd gen brought me back to Sakurazaka. I tried to give them a chance after the name change but the first single didn't excite me so I dropped Sakurazaka. I don't think I was alone. I believe Hirate and Suzumoto left a hole in the group when they left. 2nd gen and remaining 1st gen haven't really recovered from it. From a music production perspective 2nd gen pale in comparison to 1st gen. There is lack of vocalists and none of them have professional dance experience like Hirate and Suzumoto had. No disrespect to 2nd gen though, they brought variety to the group. 1st gen were bad at variety but very good with music production. 2nd gen are bad with music production but really good at variety. 3rd gen have both dancers and vocalists. I feel they are the gen that will shake up the group. Akimoto seems to be interested in 3rd gen because some of them are upcoming artists rather than idols. Taniguchi Airi seems to be Akimoto's new super ace and interest after Hirate. She got the distinct yet powerful voice. I believe this group can't evolve without a super ace. Nogizaka tried with Ikoma Rina but their aces pushed forward the group without Ikoma. Sakurazaka has tried to evolve with aces but without result. Their performance have been average at best, nothing that really stands out. Their dance tracks are random and lack a theme. Keyakizaka had the underground theme for every dance track since One-Man Live at Ariake Coliseum. But at 3rd gen's hospitality party we saw a brand new theme for dance track that 3rd gen and Takahiro have created. They seem to be bullish on the sea theme. It symbolizes hope that 3rd gen are for Sakurazaka which brings a new life into the group. Matono Mio and Murayama Miu expressed fear and destruction. It's too early to say if we will see this dance track continue for 3rd gen at 3rd arena tour. It seems a good fit with their outfits and the lyrics of Natsu no Chikamichi. 3rd gen will certainly bring back the music production. I believe management and Akimoto will not waste any time. They will give Taniguchi Airi her first solo song debut for next single. Other 3rd gen members who said to have potential by voice trainer needs more work. Airi has unexpectedly stable voice. And if they get the music production right then the live performance will become better. I also think having professional dancers that 2nd gen lacks will give dance tracks a determined theme. More pleasure to watch. As I said before the lack of Hirate and Suzumoto have really harmed the group. 2nd gen feels more idol dancers than artists and vocalists are they not. Therefore the result get worse for music production. This can only turn around with 3rd gen.
Thank you for your comment! The group had so much damage loosing Hirate and Suzumoto, no doubt. The group should make a leap in performance and sound production by 3rd gen members, no doubt! Airi Taniguchi is a instant power for the group at this moment. That was so clear with her background as a Actors School Hiroshima graduate, and the performance in the documentary and Natsuno Chikamichi. But I was suprised that she also had the talent with humor, which she showed in the SokoSaku episode. As in a performance perspective, Shizuki Yamashita and Yu Murai is also the 2 dominant dancers in 3rd gen, that has the level in same or above the 1st&2nd gen members. These 2 will definitely improve dance track stages, I believe that is a promised future. Again, I completely agree with you about the idea that the 3rd generation will change and accelerate the group for sure, and that is why I am so looking forward to the tour beginning next week. again, I appreciate your comment, I hope you will drop by again soon!
@@gulliverdj I agree with everything you said. There is one last thing I want to bring up which is the voice. We know how important it is for groups to have vocalists in order to evolve. From a sound production perspective Keyakizaka had Hirate, Nagahama Neru and Imaizumi Yui. Neru's voice was small but it was stable and she used it to her advantage that only a Neru performance can be done. Imaizumi had experience before in a idol group. So these three helped the group to become stronger. Just how important Katoshi, Kyonko and Mipan are for Hinatazaka even though management haven't given them solo songs since the Hiragana Keyaki days. So with that being said, this leaves us to 3rd gen's pre-debut photos. Why is Airi, Itoha, Riko and Reina the only ones wearing a black skirt? Airi in the center also means super ace. Decided by Akimoto. He has been working with super aces since the Onyanko Club days so he knows better than others. The mystery with black skirt can only have something to do with the voice. There is nothing unorthodox about this gen so it's not about personality. I think this leans towards four determined vocalists in 3rd gen. Riko was praised for her voice by the voice trainer and Itoha didn't participated the training camp due to bad health but her voice is very strong and loud. Reina is a surprise. All the other members got to wear a dark grey skirt. It could either mean not ready as vocalist or not a vocalist. Takahiro does seems to have a desire to not let Shizuki's small voice go to waste and throw it away. He worked with Neru in the past so he is used to this situation where he noticed the voice is stable and small. So what this means we have a very strong gen that with determined vocalists by Akimoto they can add more in the future. That's how scary 3rd gen really is. So next album might even top or even surpass Masshirona (Keyaki's 1st album). I think management wasted their time with As you know? since the album only contained 5 new songs when Masshirona had 16 new songs and Hiragana's album had 18 new songs. And also, the reason could be why they have a sea theme for dance track stage and outfits has something to do with the region. Underground theme was decided based on Hirate and Suzumoto came from Aichi and Chubu region and they were unorthodox. Sea theme could be because Airi and Itoha are from Chugoku region (Hiroshima, Yamaguchi). I remember PARCO was moving to a new location the other day after Keyakizaka's photo shooting for second single and Akimoto wrote lyrics to Hirate's second solo song about PARCO's disappearance and used the same rooftoop for filming of the MV. Akimoto's mind work that way. So same can apply to 3rd gen's sea theme unless it will integrate to the group in the future when they are not established and still lacks a theme. So this is why vocalists are so important to get the ball rolling. Theme is everything for a idol group. Keyakizaka wouldn't have been a bullet train if it wasn't for the theme. No matter how much fans say the theme is coming for the next single when it doesn't with 2nd gen. The result has been the same for five singles in a row. Management have a problem they can't sort out without a new gen. They give Nogizaka-like songs because that's the level 2nd gen can perform without being frenetic. They are idol dancers with average voice. So that's my stance on Sakurazaka's sound production dilemma. I think both Akimoto and management have been aware of it.
