Not just arbitrary, but insane. 38$ for 2 legendary skins ? That's 2$ short of the entire game's original price. And before some white knights comes to tell me devs gotta make money somehow, they made 3B$ off of lootboxes in the game's first year. That's as much money as it took to develop and advertise Cyberpunk 2077 literally *6 times over*. The game made bank. They absolutely got their return on investment. Anything beyond that is greed.

Makes me concerned for the quality, it’s like the crack dealer knows his stuff isn’t safe and your not going to come back one way or another. But fr, if your concerned free samples will take away from your sales, I don’t think you have any confidence in your product.
And the worst part is that they're probably still charging full price. It's $15 for 3 missions so you'll be paying around $60 to get 10+ missions over a much longer period of time. There's zero chance they were ever going to charge more than that for the full campaign even back when they had bigger ambitions. In fact, assuming they do more than 4 sets of missions, they actually found a way to make even more money while also giving you even less content than originally planned.

But if the pve is released in chunks with only a select number of heroes to play with, why couldn't the skill trees be released in chunks as well? It sounds like only 6-8 characters are playable in the first drop so they could have focused on the skill trees of only those characters. Disperse the workload

I think the main issue is that they're trying to value legendary skins at $15. I would say you could value them at $5 ($10 at most), with epics at $2.50 and rares at $1 if that because they're literally just a re-colouring of the default skin.
They value legendary skins at $19 and half of them look like SHIT. For example, Zarya has 1 good skin and it's only decent. Half of these skins aren't even worth $10

10:30 the game is free to play, you got to love how they add in this "first time user experience" for new players by playing 100 matches so they can "learn about the game", just so they can turn around and monetize skipping it. Hey, you want to skip this new user experience that we put in here specifically to lock you out of these heroes? give us some money. learn about the game? you don't need to learn about the game if you just give us money.
Although I hated that they locked heroes as a new player to OW2, it succeeded as a natural introduction into the game. Limiting your heroes forced you to learn new characters (especially in quick queue) and with that, procedurally grasp game knowledge. But now, it feels like I wasted my time finding which hero was the most fun for me to play, or who I thought I was best with, because now you just don’t practice. I wouldn’t be surprised if they add a skip for the 50 wins required for comp.
A lot of people are getting banned for cheating or being a horrible human being and some of them are plenty willing to pay to skip the progression on their new accounts. This might lead to an increase of bot-accounts, so you can buy an account that already has unlocked everything from someone cheaper than buying the hero unlock.
Their aim is for those first timers. Those are the ones who are not hurt by the first OW being dead. Those are the ones who will gladly pay for the battle pass and stuff
Blizzard CREATING a wall of unlocking new heroes in OW2 (their “new player experience”) and then coming out with a $5 bundle to skip that slog is the definition of “create a problem and sell the solution”
That sounds great, but it also sounds like it would take effort and skill and isn't milked for monetization to the absolute bone That's something they don't like to do at blizzard
Sarcasm aside, you realize that costs money, right? Video games aren't made for free. You have to pay the people working on it; the coders, the engineers, the artists, all of them. You have to pay for the space and buildings in which they work, the water and electricity. The computers, servers, and other machines in which they do their work. Then, you have to also predict that you will make that money back once you launch your game. Hero mode was cut because it was taking too long and costing too much money to continue justifying it. Also, if you thought they weren't going to charge for PVE even back when it was announced in 2019, and it was going to be a free update, idk what to tell you other than you were living in a fairy tale land.

25:51 Flats, this is a game journalist. A “30 minute missions” is more realistically 15 to 20 minutes, and you could probably shave that down further. Blizzards way of extending time is by forcing you to sit in one spot and shoot at things for a few minutes, move, then do it again.
The thing that bothers me about the 5$ legacy hero pack is that they were free to begin with, then they locked them away, and then allowed us to buy the key, just as a gateway to get people to start spending...

I would've bought the ow story with ow online. That's normal now red dead and GTA have done great with it release story then use that money for online for more content there, some how bliz mixed it up and failed entirely.
Considering all that they haven't given that was promised, them charging money for this is just the epitome of 'we don't care, just pay us.' It's not worth $15, because if you're already invested you've paid more than enough to DESERVE this new content, and if you're a new player it's another barrier to entry, so it's a big fumble both ways.
After the massive debacle that was cancelling the entire reason this game exists, you'd think they'd have the decency to show some goodwill and make the first bundle of missions free in order to reel people back and show to everyone that although it wasn't what was promised they can still salvage the PVE. But Blizzard has no goodwill towards its players, nor any faith that what they're releasing is an apt substitute for what was promised. So they charge right out of the gate to nickle and dime anyone stupid enough to have any faith in them left.

They can't finish PvE and then CHARGE US FOR IT and expect us to be fine while adding some decent stuff, but they barely were giving us content throughout the 5 seasons.
Im betting if people don’t buy the Pve bundles in large amounts they probably won’t continue to make pve story missions because they don’t return on profit. Seems like blizzard has us in a chokehold where either we pay money regularly for their content or we just don’t get anything interesting in the game. Pretty scummy tbh
Idk their actions so far have said that they’re just gonna keep charging people more money and never actually put any effort into their content, Id be surprised if we get these pve modes at all at this point
And that is why I'm gone once and for all. I'm seriously curious if Blizzard could be sued. Promised such big thing with Watchpoint, but the moment Wp was sold they knew pve won't come out as promised.

Pretty sure we would have had to pay for PvE even if it was the originally promised highly replayable missions with Talent Trees and such. At least that was the sentiment that some of us had and it would have been worth it, but this drip feeding definitely isn't.
Yes it was always going to be paid, but they should've realistically had the first PvE content free so you can know what you're paying for (like a demo of sorts), specially after cancelling their previous promises of a proper PvE game. It just occurred to me. With all these $5-$15 dollar price points are just trying to create "icebreakers" to get people to make their first purchase. That way new players both financially and emotionally invest in the game and are likely to stick with it a little bit longer. And, once they have spent money they are more likely to do it again because the first purchase is always the hardest one to get people to make. It's also why they include skins in all the bundles, because it feels like a good deal but also makes people think "I already bought skins before, so it's ok to do it again". Good ol' manipulative marketing practices. Classic stuff.
Yes it's called " foot in the door" technique been around for years in game's & even in other media it's a business tactic it's exclusive to OW nor will it change lol
One thing that seems extremely sleazy and feels illegal is big charge people $60 for the original overwatch one then they made overwatch two free to play and anyone who already had overwatch one they don’t get anything else they like they added the invasion mode for $60 but I bought overwatch one for $60.03 years ago and they took it back so why don’t I get a invasion for free it’s the exact same game but with less Contant so why are you charging me $60 or something I already paid for
The amount of audacity it takes to not only spit in the face of players who’ve waited 4 years for a failed promise, but to then force those same players to pay for the shitty, unfinished scraps is fucking abysmal. I honestly didn’t think Blizzard could get any worse, but they’ve consistently surprised me.
My biggest problem is mainly how they’re rolling it out Realistically I don’t think anyone would have an issue if the pve by itself was like 6-8$ but the biggest problem is that they’re adding these thing to the bundles that nobody really cares about so they can jack up the price Like realistically nobody is buying the bundle for the coins to spend on the shop, they’re buying it for the pve, and I’d genuinely be surprised if the 40$ bundle has high sales bc me personally I don’t give a shit abt anything that’s not the pve, and even then I’m prolly gonna wait to spend the money just to see if it’s actually good or not

That was my thought. They are adding $5 for people to buy the FTP heroes.

The new PvE release is predatory. There's no other way to describe it.

People would have bought the PvE if it was what was promised. It was obvious they were going to make you pay for it but I just thought they’d make you buy the battle pass to play it.
Right I thought they were going to do the halo infinite thing and have you pay for the campaign.
Turns out that Blizzard said "we can be greedier than that" and is making it separate. Amazing.
I would've bought the ow story with ow online. That's normal now red dead and GTA have done great with it release story then use that money for online for more content there, some how bliz mixed it up and failed entirely.
WE already paid for PVE by buying the game..
@@yannikakapralli but you didn’t buy the game, ow2 is free remember. Which is exactly what they were going for, can’t get sued if your game is free
The hero missions werent the entire reason the game exists. It was a big part, yes, but the story campaign was a lot more of what they talked about and showed off as the main justification

@gamer beast good support. Good content. Yeah, it's getting updated, and I will admit I wasn't really thinking when I typed that, BUT they are absolutely beyond caring about the game. They can't finish PvE and then CHARGE US FOR IT and expect us to be fine while adding some decent stuff, but they barely were giving us content throughout the 5 seasons.
3 years of being left in the dark for this...
I think the term 'scummy' fits what they are doing pretty well
And that is why I'm gone once and for all.
I'm seriously curious if Blizzard could be sued. Promised such big thing with Watchpoint, but the moment Wp was sold they knew pve won't come out as promised.
Honestly for all the Watchpoint suckers, they might have a case
afaik you can't sue for false advertisement cause 1. there is no initial purchase that you have to make to get access to the game, and 2. the Watchpoint pack never granted access to PvE, but to the PvP beta. Is it scummy? yes. Sue-able? not that I know
the watchpoint pack didn't mention pve, at all. There's nothing to sue on, sorry.
No one bought the WP pack for PvE though, it was sold as skins/early access to the OW2 PvP beta.
Without skill trees or gear to farm, what's the incentive of playing the story mission again after you beat it the first time?

I’m tired of people not giving a fuck what I have to say.
This truly is like putting the final nail to the coffin
Not only did they wash down literally everything about the PvE they stopped working on content for years to make, but they also expect you to pay for it, for 15 dollars??
Hell nah 💀
In terms of PvE co-op, Left 4 Dead 2 is £4.00 GBP _less_ than OW2's new mode paywall, _and_ will likely have orders of magnitude more playability since this is likely just one mission compared to L4D2's 10+, to say nothing of the community made content.

But unfortunately the game was released for $60 and Overwatch 1 was released for $40 like a week after Battleborn, so their sales tanked, which then lead to the downfall of it

My biggest problem is mainly how they’re rolling it out
Realistically I don’t think anyone would have an issue if the pve by itself was like 6-8$ but the biggest problem is that they’re adding these thing to the bundles that nobody really cares about so they can jack up the price
Like realistically nobody is buying the bundle for the coins to spend on the shop, they’re buying it for the pve, and I’d genuinely be surprised if the 40$ bundle has high sales bc me personally I don’t give a shit abt anything that’s not the pve, and even then I’m prolly gonna wait to spend the money just to see if it’s actually good or not
Don't pay for it just watch someone else playthrough it at least that's what I'm gonna do
I don't trust them. For all we know they might not release any pve content in months.... I am not prepaying for anything

Hey, i hope this comment doesn't get lost in the haystack but i wanted to share some insider info to clear this up possibly. The $15 that gives you "permanent story missions" key word permanent will allow you to play them whenever for ever. If you dont have the bundle then when those missions are removed (end of season) then you wont be able to play them anymore. Hope this makes more sense than the way it was explained on the site.
And just when you think they couldn't go any lower they somehow manage to tunnel below hell.
I love that PvE is being sold the first season after they announced they "JUST" decided to abandon the old pve. Its almost like they have been working on the scaled back pve for months and knew how badly people would take it before saying anything
They definitely knew. Everything from shoving it at the end of a 50 min starwatch vid, to not telling us this at launch and waiting till right before a non character release season where they already make less money, to announcing it right before the pride event to distract from it. thats why they didnt say anything even tho they knew 10 months ago
