Neighbors knows way more than I do. I really like this drill but felt there were many forced, bad shots just in this drill alone.
I’m sure at his level this works but at a high school level with boys or girls you need to be careful it doesn’t turn into Rat ball.
Maybe the more we practice it, the better we can get? We’ll give it a try.
    Great conditioning drill for sure.

I love this drill, but it is really hard to run with JV kids who are less skilled and not able to create their own shot. I still run this drill because I want my players to play fast, but my intention is just to create a mentality with my older girls especially that we want to play fast, not necessarily score fast. If we play fast in games, our opportunities will come.

Do not petition your State for a SHOT CLOCK. High Schools are not COLLEGES. Especially not SMALL HIGH SCHOOLS. And the BIG HIGH SCHOOLS play FAST ANYWAY without a Shot Clock. IN FACT, MOST High School teams PLAY FAST despite there being NO SHOT CLOCK.
My State goes from A to 6A (small to large). And I went to a SINGLE A school. When I played there we pressed and ran constantly. Our entire Offense was Quick Hitter Plays and scoring off of the Press or the Fast Break. And from what I can tell they still do this except they DO NOT WIN these days. And almost ALL of the teams our size and above also played FAST and STILL DO.
    -
But as a COACH I WOULD WANT the OPTION TO STALL. Everybody wants to drop back into a ZONE which is the DEFENSIVE VERSION of a STALL. But the Offense gets penalized by the CLOCK because the CANNOT STALL BACK. My Coaches were too BAD to see this and they would send us a FULL SPEED into the TEETH of every Zone and eventually the ZONE would erase our Lead and despite regularly being the BEST or 2nd BEST Single A school in our Region we NEVER ADVANCED to the All A State Tournament because we NEVER STALLED and held on to our Lead Late in Games.
We would Press and Run our way to a Lead... but could not HOLD ONE.
And forget about beating any of the 3A schools that were TWICE to 3 times our size without being able to STALL. And forget that our District has 2 of the LARGEST SCHOOLS in our STATE both 6A in our District. They had more kids on their Football Teams than we had STUDENTS.

Most of the Players are NOT going to make it to College anyway. But the Smaller schools in HIGH SCHOOL are totally screwed out of ANY CHANCE of even competing if you implement a SHOT CLOCK. They can only play EACH OTHER but they are too SMALL to have the TRAVEK BUDGET needed to fill their schedule with only Single A opponents. And they deserve a chance to WIN a game against a bigger school and they can't do it with some CRACY TALENT or simply the ability to STALL a liitle bit.
The Players that are going to ADVANCE to College STILL ADVANCE without Shot Clocks. Plus the AAU has the Shot Clock. So coaches can still see them under those circumstances anyway. The 1% of the World Population that are 6'-5" and above are STILL going to College is they have ANY Athleticism. And the shorter guys with TALENT will still SHINE.

A word on the shotclock. I feel like anybody who advocates for them simply doesn't understand not only does it cost a lot to install the systems but it takes a second person to run. Now for a big school with 1k+ kids that may be easier with better budgets and booster clubs. At "sister's of the poor" with 100 kids, you ain't raising that kind of money let a lone finding a second person to run the shot clock. Hell when I did the board for 8 years and then left last year, I got texts about how they couldn't find someone to do that job. Now trying to scrounge up a second person? It's unrealistic at the high school level given the vast monetary gaps between districts, plus private schools.

Private schools have the option of playing under their own rules unless they choose to join the state's governing athletic group. The shot clock is currently being used in eight states and is making the quality of basketball and quality of players in those states far better. There's always a financial burden in any smaller program. That's why good coaches are also good solicitors and conduct good fundraisers.

Are you THAT BAD at Identifying Players? You mean a BOX SCORE and a TAPE MEASURE and a Player Ranking and Recruiting won't get the job done on WHO a DIVISION 1 Team in the SEC should recruit?
Sure, you need to develop a Relationship with the PLAYERS and that takes time but you have got to be kidding yourself with that BULLCHIT that you need to see players play under a SHOT CLOCK when you say it is like not teaching Part of English (which BTW you expose you weren't taught part of English the wat you say that... doesn't seem to be affecting your Life/Job at all not knowing PART of English)

Let me save you some TIME in Recruiting Coach. Focus on Player 6'-0" or Taller From Arkansas and any state that BORDERS Arkansas. They look in Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio because that is were BASKETBALL PLAYERS are born, And also look in Texas. That is PLENTY of Territory for you Forwards and Centers. And it will save you money in Travel Expenses and TIME.
    -
That is your IN SEASON Recruiting Territory. This way the Coaching Staff can BE HOME to COACH in PRACTICE to make sure the players you land can learn all of the SHOT CLOCK stuff they might have missed in High School. And you will also find plenty of Solid Guards in that Territory... but you might have to COACH THEM UP in the 4 to 6 years they are on your TEAM.
    -
Then in the SUMMERS hit the AAU games in the New York Area and Philly Areas and hit the AAU games in California looking at the SPECIAL PLAYERS. Maybe even hit Atlanta and or Orlando. Grab a few GREATS out of those Areas to go along with your SOLID more LOAL CORE.
Look at the lists of 4 Stars and 5 Stars ad target those players. And look at the 3 Stars when you can find them. Tom Izzo, Rick Pitino... TONS of Coaches focus on the next tier down and take the best of them... keep them around longer and have more success than the guys that HORDE all of the 5 Stars. They Coach Em Up and they get players to RUN from states with No Shot Clock.
    -
It isn't MY JOB coaching MY TEAM to help YOU get WINS with Players you are NEVER going to Want in the 1st Place. Because in a Small School like mine anybody I have that is a PLAYER leaves after 8th Grade to play at the BIG SCHOOLS. So you leave my GAME ALONE.
I just fixed all of your problems for you IF you can LAND them.

You’re playing for your record and not for the benefit of your athletes if you are playing slow. No player has ever fallen in love with the game of basketball by standing there and holding the ball. Players love to cheer for their teammates, run, jump, shoot, dribble, pass, rebound, steal the ball and get blocked shots. Take the shackles off the kids you are coaching and let them play because nobody cares what your record is.

@@XFactorz17 Look Stupid. My JOB is to WIN GAMES and COMPETE with the Talent I have. A pool of about 80 Girls from 7th to 8th Grade. It is NOT my Record. It is THEIR Record.
THIS YEAR my team will return to the STATE TOURNAMENT for a teams of our Size for the 6th Year in a row - with 1 Semifinals Finish and we will probably be back there Next Year and might even get there the year after that BECAUSE of everything WE DO.
Our 1st year we had ZERO Juniors, Seniors or Sophomores. Starting with our 1st Senior Class in my Tenure what WE DO has place players in COLLEGE. 2023 - 1 NAIA. 1 D3 and 1 NAIA Soccer 2024 - 1 NAIA and 1 NAIA Soccer 2025 - 1 NAIA, 2 D3
We REGULARLY have faced 1 Future WNBA Player and MULTIPLE D1 players both in a Division, in our District and our Very Tough Schedule. MANY teams DUCK US because of how we play. Because we play the toughest Defense most of these players will see before they get into College.
A dumb SHOT CLOCK would make us even BETTER because teams would have to drive into the TEETH of our Defense. But it would NOT make the GAME better.
Our Players DO NOT STAND THERE. They don't do that ANYWHERE btw and a STUPID SHOT CLOCK doesn't change that. Only an IDIOT would think that it does.
So you can take your KNOW NOTHING ABOUT BASKETBALL OPINION and tell it to some other IDIOT. I know EXACTLY what I am doing. You are a MORON.
