- The seventh of a BBC radio series of nine programmes introduced by Ivor Keys, each focusing on a different English cathedral. This edition was broadcast on 21 August 1981, although it was actually recorded in 1979. It featured the choir of Durham Cathedral, directed by Richard Lloyd, with Assistant Organist Alan Thurlow. Unfortunately, the recording is slightly truncated.
1. Te lucis ante terminum - Anon 8th cent. (sung in procession)
2. Lord have mercy upon us - John Brimley
3. I will wash my hands - William Smith
4. Fantasia for Organ - Anon (played by Richard Lloyd)
5. Teach me, O Lord [opening section] - Thomas Ebdon
6. Jesus shall reign (“Galilee”) - Philip Armes
7. Still throned in heaven (“Lux vera”) - John Dykes
8. Her foundations are the holy hills - Arthur Hutchings
9. Psalm Prelude Set 2, No. 1 - Herbert Howells (played by Richard Lloyd) - เพลง
Goodness! I was a student at Durham University at this time and attended Evensong as often as possible, so this brings back many happy memories. The choir also recorded two albums for the Abbey record label around this time. Maybe one day I'll get around to digitising and uploading them!
The hymn Her Foundations Are Upon the Holy Hills is the only piece recorded here which appears on the choir's first Abbey album, but it was lovely to hear it again after all this time (my vinyl collection is currently in storage for lack of suitable playing equipment).
Thank you :)
Pity Ivor Keys didn't make more of these programmes. Any chance of uploading the rest of the series?
I only have two more of the series in the Archive (anyone have more!) and both are on the TH-cam channel:

Chichester Cathedral : th-cam.com/video/k-XtURO9M6A/w-d-xo.html
So you're still missing six broadcasts. Surely *someone* out there has them, sitting around in the attic?! What's the donation procedure?
Contact me on here, and either donate the recording or loan us the tape for digitising. It's as simple as that!
I have a feeling I may have some of these- I recall one on Coventry and one on Liverpool- I'll have a look!
We would be very interested to know which broadcasts you have.
