Many thanks for a modern recording of yet another neglected Romantic-era composer! Yes there are small ensemble issues, but - as you have pointed out - this brave orchestra at least had the courage to create for us a listenable performance of a work that would otherwise probably continue to be neglected. I have a question about the recording levels; the third movement is distinctly louder than the other three. This isn't just an aural impression; a real-time recording with software such as Audacity® reveals this visually. I plan to boost the recording levels of movements 1, 2, and 4 so that they approximate those of the scherzo, but I wonder if you have any information on why this apparent discrepancy exists in the current upload.

I am inclined to agree with other reviewers concerning the playing of the orchestra however it must be said that the work itself deserved to be recorded and issued on CD. The 1st and 3rd movements are very likeable.................. it'll probably fall to labels like CPO, Danacord, Toccata Classics to do it as the bigger labels would deign it beneath themselves. Quite that is I do not know but it does seem that the repertoire in the United States is getting smaller by the year. Sad.......

I agree completely about the shrinking repertoire here in the USA. My local orchestra, the Kansas City Symphony, loves to play with rock and jazz artists. They are becoming a pop orchestra that is so revenue driven.

Nice music, but we need a much better performance from a professional orchestra.

Which, let's remain realistic, we're unlikely to ever get. So for now I'm thankful to the local forces of Olten.

@@bomcabedal Oh quite. By the way, where did you obtain the recording? Did you pay for it?

@@alanhowe7659 A friend bought it at Olten town hall and donated it to me a few years ago. I believe it was a very small run, because when I inquired a bit later they'd run out of them.

Did anyone else think they were listening to Dvorak?

Nice piece, could use a little more attention to the intonation in places!

I know; but it's a smallish amateur orchestra and considering that, they're doing pretty well I think.

I wondered, and in this case, I withdraw the criticism - after all, it's a bit embarrassing to see amateurs recording music that we professionals should be doing!

Non ci trovo niente di Romantic-era in questa musica.Molto monotona, sempre lo stesso motivo ,alquanto vecchiotto ,che si ripete in tutti i movimenti.E' un modello Haydniano.Doveva nascere un secolo e mezzo prima.

That's a bit harsh. One can argue about the quality of the work, and it admittedly sounds old-fashioned for its time, but the claim that this could have been written in 1716 (to take your words) is not really sustainable either.
