- ►Spinning up to 8400rpm with lots of compression requires a healthy ignition system. Both factors put intense strain on spark plugs, so replacements for BMW M3s sporting the S65 V8 must be close to the recommended 37,500-mile interval. Replacement certainly isn't the easiest task in the world, but it's not too dissimilar from all of the other tight engine bay tasks you'll find in an E9X.
If you miss that spark plug replacement interval, you won't hurt the car immediately, but you'll likely begin to notice some performance loss after a while. A weak spark will cause poor combustion, which should appear as a misfire, poor performance (especially at the top end), and poor fuel consumption on any car. However, the spark plug also acts as the knock sensor
Instead, you can spend an hour under the hood, ensuring that doesn't happen.
In this video, Gareth Foley, FCP Euro's BMW Expert, replaces the spark plugs and ignition coils on a BMW E92 M3.

#4 & 8 coils were super difficult for me to snake out of position and to reinstall. Made me rethink my life choices. You made it seem so easy. I even took my cowl and strut bars off for extra room.
FCP EURO going hard with these E9X M3 videos 😎💯

The ignition coil black plastic covers get brittle in high mileage M3s.They can break at the grommets. Put silicon on the rubber grommets if they are dried out. You can buy the rubber grommets separately and replace them.
The valve covers are magnesium, so try to put something like a cloth or piece of rubber underneath, if using a metal tool as a lever. The top of the ignition coils are rubber....so it is not a great place to stick a metal screwdriver. Twist the coil to break the seal. Use leverage under the coil and at the coil connector.
Timing of these videos is too convenient, it's almost as if FCP Euro is watching me🤔

Just did an oil change and had the first 4 misfire. Was it possible from the oil
Check if you put the oil cap back on properly. It might be cross-threaded. Check the oil level to make sure you didn't add way too much oil.
Or it could just be a coincidence that you had a spark plug go bad at the same time.
Seating these ignition coils in my opinion is more difficult than removing them. The reason is you do not get good feedback as to whether they have seated themselves or not.. There should be no gap between the sealing grommet and the valve cover. A slight gap would mean the ignition coil is not making contact with the nut on the spark plug. Getting these coils to seat all the way down (particulary those towards the rear of the engine) takes a decent amount of physical force.
@@rjmari yea the oil cap is on correctly.
@@GarethFoley the coils are in correctly because you hear the audible click
@@gabby811ify Is the ignition coil ground secured to the valve cover?
