I'm wondering if they plan to simply purge everything that isn't what they want. All these servers holding untold numbers of hours of videos that aren't being watched must be eating into their budget. This makes the most sense to me when you put a lens up to the whole date bit, though I don't suspect they'll preform this 'purge' when they first implement the date stuff. They'll probably rebrand TH-cam to something else as well to help further disassociate viewers from what it used to be.

@@PerryMcCall18 Same, it's literally a hostile work environment for the people who do this full time. If anything I'd hope a class action lawsuit would result in the FTC ripping TH-cam away from Google.
TH-cam was overpaying creators for a long time. They were overcharging advertisers. It was on purpose to create content and gain market share. But it wasn't reality.
TH-cam used to be the place where you, the average person, could casually post a video and be seen by the world. It hasn’t felt like that since it merged with Google. It definitely isn’t user friendly. As a content creator, I’ve posted over 1200 videos, but I still only get an average of 20 or 30 views. Shorts will occasionally get a few hundred, but rarely over a thousand. Never let anyone tell you that consistency is key. It’s like the algorithm doesn’t even know I exist. It frustrates me when I see a TH-camr who has posted only 20 videos but has already cracked 100k subscribers. Of course, that’s becoming rarer. Increasingly, the only people who are succeeding are corporations and people who have been around for 15 years.
When youtube was in its early days, there were significantly fewer content creators to compete with, let say there were 3000 people making video gaming reviews while at the same time existed 100k Daily viewers on TH-cam. This means that several content creators got views, with a steady supply of more as TH-cam grew... Nowadays, there are perhaps 10m review gaming channels, of which thousands of videos are released daily, if not more. However the daily viewer has reached its peak. similar situation we saw when Shorts were released..Aka firsts months after Shorts were released practically all videos could get 10k+ views and now you are lucky if you get 1k.
I love making content, and I find it relaxing. I'm happy people enjoy what I like and I'm grateful for the audience I've built. However, this seems like a huge regression. Why remove these features?

I watch A LOT of news, including many foreign and local news stations from around the country (U.S.) because I like knowing what is going on and what is important to people in various regions. Getting rid of date stamps would be an absolute DISASTER for keeping apprised of current events both at home and abroad. Yeah, TH-cam is definitely in a different place. That it has been in the last 10 years. People are fed up with it. I know a lot of creators who either quit entirely on social media or have left because they're so fed up with TH-cam's bogus and social media.
If you look for how-tos on software that changes all the time (like Blender) you need dates to tell you if the how-to is worth watching. Removing dates is a horrible idea!
It's because TH-cam is so big and they've been around for so long that they think they can do whatever they want. I think it's only a matter of time before they really overstep themselves.
@thephantomoftheparadise5666 it's a risk because it's an investment into your own personal project But if you really want to find a way you do it or else you will always be subjected to the blurry and ever changing rules of whatever platform you are on Only way to maintain absolute control over your content is you make the platform yourself
Years old videos getting recommended to me.. Yes. .I have noticed that a lot.. TH-cam suggestions has become a mess, with barely anything resembling anything interesting in there. New things, often really weird things, getting randomly suggested to me. Months old news videos. You can definitely feel that there's somebody with little to no understanding of human nature, is changing the algorithms.
There's a 1992 movie called Sneakers with an all-star cast, including Robert Redford and Ben Kingsley. Near the end, Kingsley's character says to Redford's character, "It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think, it's all about the information." Back then it sounded so abstract, but now it's right in our face. From news sites with an agenda to Microsoft's Recall to Google reading our documents to TH-cam continuing to corral its viewers and mold its audience, we have truly become the product.
Unless laws are put in place requiring platforms to show dates, view counts, likes, dislikes, etc. the platforms aren't likely to share those numbers with average users in the future.
Huh, this explains why for the past week or so I've been getting recommended videos from years ago, and not getting the current stuff from creators I actually follow.
Well this is gonna destroy 80% of what i use youtube for. I need to see view count to know if the education vid is worth watching. I need date for news relevance. Can youtube just stop stripping away features?
I don’t like this idea one bit. Not everyone can be a Netflix. It’s ridiculous to just trust the word of the people in charge of the platform saying “Trust Me Bro”. We’ve heard this many times before. A real shame that only polished finished products might have a shot at being successful but that’s a bit of a gamble (50/50) whether you succeed or fail. If it’s not broken stop trying to fix it. Keep up the good work, and prayers for Geeky, hopefully she gets better. ❤
Crazy on how videos will soon have no timeline and/or moment of times for the average viewer. I was wondering too why most average viewers view no more than 20% of each entire video.
This explains why I have had a load of old crap in my feed over the last couple of weeks , I clicked on something that I thought was relevant it was 2 years old , seriously TH-cam and Google are going to run the site into the ground .
What's next? Are they going to remove the duration of the video from the thumbnails too? What is it with companies these days that they seem to manage to make the wrong decision every single time?
Removing dates would push me off the platform for good. Current events will be almost impossible to tell what is new or not. Same with game news. Finding newer videos from creators you check on occasionally will be a pain. Removing the dated is an all around awful idea. Clownfosh uploads so much trying to find qhat is new of old news would be functionally ridiculous.
The next step after this is they quit paying all content creators. Their rational is we are providing a platform for you to post your junk (90% of TH-cam is junk) on here for free. Some will leave ,but most are attention where's, so they will stay, but post less.
It's a scary thought, but what if TH-cam's long-term plan is to phase out the current payment structure for content creators? Instead of compensation based on views, creators might be paid according to the number of likes they receive. This would allow TH-cam to retain a much larger portion of their ad revenue, all while claiming that these updates are aimed at benefiting smaller channels.

When you not see view counts you not now if the video ist good and removing the date you not now if it new or old.
Making those videos about the truth are ones they don't like..they don't like people spreading the truth and anything they can do to ruin those videos they certainly will
me either (or removing the ability to dislike shorts on yt, i don't even know the reason for removing the dislike button completely on shorts.)
It's not for your benefit, it's for the benefit of traditional Hollywood and mainstream media, who don't get any views compared to alternative channels.
It's all about clicking on a video and getting those first few ads. Doesn't matter if you waste your time, they still got the revenue.
I'd imagine many channels will likely start putting the date and upload time. In the title, description or beginning of the video to counter this until team TH-cam says they can't anymore.
They'd have to. Imagine tech channels that offer troubleshooting and buikd tips for things like PC's knowing the date a versions will be vital.
Wait, so even the *creators* won't be able to see their own metrics? Wtf? I get that they want to crank down on control and get their stupid revenue clicks, but come on!
Creators can't complain about their cut of ad revenue if they can't see the number of views, right? Sundar Pichai's cunning plan.
@@Quest3Games That... yeah, that tracks. 😑
@@Quest3Games I completely forgot that the Woj was out and who Pichai was. For a moment I thought you were bringing up Dahir Insaat, and thought you were saying the plan was to redirect people to 10-year-old failed Kickstarter and Indiegogo videos.
It seems shady because what is preventing TH-cam from trimming some of the pay for themselves if the creator doesn't know what they're exactly supposed to be paid?
@@mykaruest3620 You make that sound like a hypothetical instead of a given. Of course they're going to skim.
Didn't Facebook do something similar by screwing up the homepage to show you random junk instead of your feed in chronological order? That was about the time I started to stop using it.
Yes. "Trending" or "Hot" or "Best" instead of "New" by default, and then you still get those "recommended" posts(even if they're not outright ads) in the middle of your "New Posts" feed.
The date is the main one that doesn't make any sense. It will cause all kinds of chaos and ruin the platform

It totally makes sense. Mainstream news has been kicked to the curb by individual creators on TH-cam, but they still have enough money and influence for bribes.
So they're about to deviantart themselves? I completely stopped using DA after they forced Eclipse on us.
I’m not familiar with the issues in DA, what happened over there?
@@JoseHernandez-xv2bt A few years back, DeviantArt forced through a complete change in their site UI despite the ENORMOUS backlash of its user base. Literally no one wanted it. They left us with a switch that allowed us to choose the old or new UI (ie. Eclipse) for a long, long time, and I didn't know anyone using or enjoying the new version. I tried it periodically, but it was buggy, ugly, and unwieldy. So when they forced everyone to convert to the Eclipse UI permanently, folks left in droves for other websites.
@@JoseHernandez-xv2bt They implemented AI art and automatically opted every user in so every piece posted gets scraped. Each individual piece previously posted had to be manually disabled so those with several hundreds or thousands of works in their gallery gets screwed over the most.
@@Yukimeyuand now Deviantart is mostly filled with shitty fill in “memes” and fetish art (there are still some good artists, but fewer than there used to)
@@JoseHernandez-xv2bt The one OP is complaining about is when DA completely overhauled their website, now you are completely unable to search or browse art by relevancy, date, popularity etc. Basically it has no advanced search engine making finding anything particular or new impossible.
Anyone has alternatives for TH-cam? I'm sick of them changing shit...
I've heard of Rumble, I've never checked it personally but some do swear by it. I may also be checking them out myself.
@thetruemonarch9294 wasn't Bitchute and Kick recommended from time to time here?
Just get TH-cam revanced
It's free
r, umble & kick are the bigger ones
Removing the dates is ridiculous. Especially for gaming channels as videos from 6 months ago are mostly useless after certain updates and such. Content creators will have to put the dates in the titles to get people to watch it again.
It is to censor stuff which woke Sundar Pichai doesn't want the middle and right wing to even know exist. Only videos of "marines" twerking and spinning into drag queens will be served to brainwash Gen A kids.
Removing the Dislike Button.
Now this?
I'm completely against taking away date and time. I rely on date and time to not get funneled into old content. Stop taking away useful features TH-cam.
Exactly. Imagine looking at product reviews cause of a recall and it's obnoxiously difficult to what was pre and post recall. "Glares in p320" for a good example.
One step closer to destroying TH-cam. I don't know about anyone else but I come here for the independent non-Hollywood content. I've already started seeking alternatives sites because this place started to suck. Hopefully a replacement that is really good comes along soon.
Good luck TH-cam! By all means, keep doing stuff to make it easier for your competition to gain ground on you.
Content creators should file a class action lawsuit against youtube for creating a hostile work environment.
They need too at this point, since there aren’t any other options at this time and doing this is gonna hurt everyone when it comes to basic information
@megaman37456 I'm surprised that they've never done that before.
Have you read the ToS? Did you understand it? Do you know any contract law? Uber drivers have better odds of pulling that off.
Part of it needs to be relevant content too though to whomever is looking for it.
They do this and I’ll just start watching Rumble instead
Content creator's are gonna have to start Saying the day and year. Just to be intellectually honest with their audience.
I love making content, and I find it relaxing. I'm happy people enjoy what I like and I'm grateful for the audience I've built. However, this seems like a huge regression. Why remove these features?
Because we can’t have nice things
The same reason yt heroes promoted mass reporting for direct access to yt head office-
If it keeps going like this the only logical response will be to repeal section 230. If they decide everything, they should be liable for all of it.
Way overdue.
What good will repealing Section 230 do?
@@riotkitty Allow lawsuits.

No clue if that was true, or if it was even planned, but it wouldn't surprise me if they did something like that.
I watch A LOT of news, including many foreign and local news stations from around the country (U.S.) because I like knowing what is going on and what is important to people in various regions.

This is a stupid update. And it's going to affect alot of content creators.
Many channels will likely have to hide or delete older content that is no longer relevant to avoid it being seen then.

Dealing with the algorithm is bad enough as it is. No dates would wreck the site for me unless I had the time to search every little video.
It's because TH-cam is so big and they've been around for so long that they think they can do whatever they want. I think it's only a matter of time before they really overstep themselves.
And what happens when they do?

Removing dates?! That’ll kill the platform.
Alright this makes sense, I was wondering why i was getting news videos from a year or two ago, and not just news videos too
TH-cam will never learn the lesson from their past mistakes
Years old videos getting recommended to me.. Yes. .I have noticed that a lot.. TH-cam suggestions has become a mess, with barely anything resembling anything interesting in there. New things, often really weird things, getting randomly suggested to me. Months old news videos. You can definitely feel that there's somebody with little to no understanding of human nature, is changing the algorithms.
I think it's stupid. people is not going to watch TH-cam anymore
Which is why other video sharing apps like Rumble exist as alternatives to TH-cam.
Dates.... removing the dates.....🤦♀
Huh, this explains why for the past week or so I've been getting recommended videos from years ago, and not getting the current stuff from creators I actually follow.
They are more and more getting away from small and medium content contributors. You, know, the very people who made them originally
Just when you thought youtube couldn't get any more stupid.
This is just going to be a cluster across the board.
This is like when Etsy tried to be Amazon & screwed over us artists who make hand made products.
TH-cam seems intent on removing the features that make it useful and popular… eventually there will be an opening for competitors.
Somebody complain to the people in charge of TH-cam about this!
They don't care
Does anyone know their address? I won’t be aggressive, but I will try and have a healthy negotiation (you catch more flies with honey than vinegar)
The people in charge are the ones actually pushing this agenda.
I applaud the use of RPGs.
The number of AI generated videos is getting rilly bad.

I DESPISE IT when TH-cam recommends videos to me that are old.

I noticed I was getting recommended Clownfish videos that I already watched from 4-5 years ago. I was like what the eff?
Removing dates would push me off the platform for good. Current events will be almost impossible to tell what is new or not. Same with game news. Finding newer videos from creators you check on occasionally will be a pain. Removing the dated is an all around awful idea.
Clownfosh uploads so much trying to find qhat is new of old news would be functionally ridiculous.
Yes I see the typos. For some reason the comment wouldn't post without them. Maybe I triggered a keyword?
The next step after this is they quit paying all content creators. Their rational is we are providing a platform for you to post your junk (90% of TH-cam is junk) on here for free. Some will leave ,but most are attention where's, so they will stay, but post less.
and maybe youtube becomes vimeo
It's a scary thought, but what if TH-cam's long-term plan is to phase out the current payment structure for content creators? Instead of compensation based on views, creators might be paid according to the number of likes they receive. This would allow TH-cam to retain a much larger portion of their ad revenue, all while claiming that these updates are aimed at benefiting smaller channels.
The ads recently have gotten way, way overdone...its so bad now. But i guess they need to recoup all that money they donated to the Dems
One of the main reasons I never attempted to be a TH-camr is because of the unpredictable nature of this site that seems to randomly punish you for the slightest thing. Sometimes even when you follow the ToS. I'd much rather be in the comments, even though the comments I'm not worse in terms of what it allows me to say. The writing had been on the wall ever since the first adpocalypse that it was going to come to this eventually, it was just never possible to see it back then, but as I have found out that companies are not above kicking all their employees just to make a quick buck.
TH-cam, you ain’t Netflix!
This will be the most chaotic event that may happen.
Well when TH-cam dies because everybody left.....right back to square one. Rumble, X or something else will replace it.
Everyone will just go to newgrounds.
