For anyone that's never been to a Universal Studios theme park, some of the wands have little electronic tips that react with parts of the park. Like you can point the wand at a window and something inside will look like it's floating. I'm guessing Sui-chan saw someone doing something like that which was when Miko realised her wand wasn't able to do 'magic'. The other wands are purely decorative which is what Mikochi must have gotten. (I think the decorative ones actually look nicer - I have a death eater wand)

to be specific, wands have an tip that can be tracked by infrared sensors. so by this logic you can make a wand at home with a cucumber and something that can be detected by infrared tracking.

Fun fact, the 4 main Gryffindors in Harry's year reflect the 4 houses. Everyone knows Harry is a Gryffindor who shows Slytherin tendencies because the books explicitly call that out. Hermione is a Gryffindor who shows Ravenclaw tendencies, if course. Ron is the most pure Gryffindor character. And Neville rounds out the cast as a Gryffindor who shows strong Hufflepuff tendencies (iirc the books even mention how he was another case like Harry of the sorting hat being on the fence between two houses).
Neville had the courage to oppose the carrow regime on the school, organize and mantain an underground resistance and eventually overthrow it, directly defy and challenge the most feared wizard of its times, roll a legendary on sorting hat gacha and destroy a horrocrux under the nose of voldemort. Harry just let himself die because dumbledore said so. The book is about the wrong wizard kid.

The wands have this little reflective piece of plastic in the tip, and there are a dozen or so places in the area where you can move your wand in a little pattern and an infrared sensor will see it and make some event happen. It's all little stuff like making water come out of a fountain, or making some little boxes float for a minute. For a child it must be mind blowingly cool.

This reminds me of the wand in Mahou Shoujo Ore. That "wand" was basically just a fancy club with no magical abilities at all (except maybe one that gets used one time).
In reality, if a muggle used a magic wand, the wand would backfire and harm the muggle instead. This was covered in the books, and it's the main reason some wizards have issues with backfiring when they are beginning to learn. Some wands are more temperamental than others, backfiring even on relatively strong pure bloods. Neville's wand was like that at first, however, was broken by death eaters, and was no longer functional at all. Also, weirdly, after Ron sat on his and broke it, the wand stayed functional, but *always* backfired, no matter who used it. The stronger the wizard, the stronger the backfire.
Miko-chi ending up being a Squib (one of wizard heritage but no ability to perform magic) looking around at everyone else able to perform magic, somehow really fits her.
I mean, Harry Potter is pretty damn plain as well. The ONLY thing that made him special was that he didn't die when Voldemort tried to kill him, and that didn't even have ANYTHING to do with Harry. If his parents were alive and he still had all that money, he'd be a little Dudley.
