Preparing You for Air Gun Competition

  • Dr Russ participated in numerous 9mm, 45 caliber, 12 gauge shotgun and AR-15 competitions after returning from Vietnam, after serving as an Infantry Platoon Leader with the Big Red One. He often fired 1,000 rounds in the week prior to a major competition. Dr. Russ’ participation in these competitions’ oven had some carry over to shooting accurately with air guns.
    While all competitions required a secretive and detailed preparation list, Dr. Russ has asked a young man and friend, to join him in this video. A friend named Izzy, who competes regularly in air rifle completions today. Izzy is a key executive of Donnyfl in Florida. He too has a secretive and detailed preparation list when it comes to national and global competitions.
    Awards can be as high as $30,000 and prize tables can include some very expensive air guns … along with trophies, medals and even ribbons. Fortunately, Izzy agreed to share his list … along with Dr. Russ’ own list with the viewers of Dr. Russ Air Rifle Adventures. While most viewers won’t enter air gun competitions, Dr. Russ knows that they still compete with themselves, or a few select friends in any scheduled air gun get together. They can also drive home disappointed following a hunt, where that important trophy got away due to poor accuracy. Its far more exciting and rewarding when you know as much as possible about shooting accurately from those who shoot in national and global competitions. That is what this Dr. Russ Air Rifle Adventure video is all about.

    Are most Airgun competitions done at .177 caliber, or do they go up to .22 or .25? If it is .177, then you must really need to be committed to spend that kind of money and time on that caliber. Hats off to those folks.

    • @russjones6497
      @russjones6497 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      xdmc005 ,,, we are currently on a road trip that included Daisy head quarters in Arkansas.... and the air gun competitions in 177 caliber include over 1 million kids each year.... They also manufacturer air guns in larger calibers ....for them selves and for Winchester ... We cover the subject in the videos that are coming... But to answer your question ... there are air gun competitions that I am aware of up to 30 caliber ... and rumors that they will include 35 cal / 357 magnum / and 9 mm... in the future .... that last group is considered one caliber... Greetz Dr.Russ. I have only one question. I got my invader .177 bolt for a while made a few upgrades, first it was unbearably loud so I fixed a console then a silencer. But there is a sound, when air reserv is filled to 200Bar so the first two shots or even maybe 3-4, depends on the weather but they sound loud asF still and it was there on the same volume before i suppressed it. I assume its the hammer spring hits the valve for the fist few time right after filled up and the pressure is too much (never overfilled only to factorial max) on the valve head witch causes a too fast or too strong backlash on the actual hammerspring or I have no idea. Please enlighten me about is this phenomenon normal is a feature, engineered like this, or would it might cause some problems? already bought an additional 255cc tank with the huma reg inside. will that fixes this issue, In fact it really gives me a cheap impression, kinda dissapointed. wasn't cheap tough.
    Oh yeah one more qoute about the air consumption, they claim that one full fill of 255cc shoots out all three mags acceptably on targert? First 5 shots wastes around 50 bars. speak clearly for some who doesen't know thats half the amount of the optimal pressure range (so the green section) and with the rest 50ish bar green supposed to spit out the remaining 37 rounds?
