  • In this episode, We get into the front cabin via the engine room and start removing the rusty sections from the hull. One thing leads to another with this project but we are handling it well. There was a bit of epoxy in the hull that could easily cause some health issues.
    There really is only one way to deal with rust and that is to cut it out and weld in new sections. You just cant rush into it though and it needs to be done one section at a time.
    We have set up a Ko-fi donation page to help with consumable items such as grinding disc's, welding electrodes and any other small items we require to complete the build. We have decided to leave the Patreon program alone at this stage. We will rethink it later in the year. We just don't want that sort of pressure on us just yet. We are attempting to release a video every Saturday morning at 6am on TH-cam and at this stage, we only have enough footage to do that and not enough to get a few weeks ahead for patreon's
    Subscribe, subscribe, subscribe. We could do with some additional help to move us on our journey. The more subscribers we get the more motivated we become.

      Glad you enjoy it! I wasn't sure how it would go. Sheryl's son is a brilliant musician and he is writing some stuff for us as I type. He has been studying our channel and a few others to see how to make it work. The first stuff he has done was very fitting. will be great when we can add it in. TH-cam copyright prevents me from using the music I like so Josh is giving it a good crack for us so we can use it. Cheers

      Thanks 😁 Too many years of practice lol. I did a pressure vessel certificate years ago and for part of the certificate you had to be able to remove the weld completely with the gouger, grind it then re-weld and perform a bend test on it. hence to say I passed lol

    Going great , mate, once the bottom is done, you can concentrate, on the real work with the interior and engine install , etc
    Great content

      Thanks Jeff. I will be excited to get the bottom done. I am sick of hanging around in the bilges. I was only thinking this week about where to next and how exciting it will be. Thanks for your reply. lovely words. Cheers

    Looks like a nice big space. Good work as usual Paul. Get a much rust and scale out through the hole while you have the bottom open.

      Thank you. Not stopping till it's all gone Bob. The forepeak cabin is massive. I may even reduce it yet to give more living space. not sure yet though. The rust dropping straight out as the sheet falls away is brilliant. I can clean it up with a shovel and a rake at the end of each day.

    Well, nice work! Between Dangar Stu and the folks over at Brupeg it feels like I have overhauled 3 steel boats to include yours. Keep up the good work!

    • @TheadventuresofSherylandPaul
      @TheadventuresofSherylandPaul  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Eric. I was watching some Brupeg and Dangar Stu on the weekend because everyone tells me to watch them. I must say that each of the boats has presented itself with a different range of problems and it's interesting to see how we have all tackled those problems. I have a small advantage over them both and that is only because I am a boilermaker so I haven't had to learn to weld , cut or handle steel, it just second nature to me and when I was doing it full time I made it my life. The Sin, Cos and Tan we learnt at school, I used it every day in my job when I was in my prime. These guys had to learn it without a teacher so if anything they are roads ahead of me in learning new skills which is what I am really hoping to achieve by doing this. I am still learning but it is probably different to what they have learnt.
      This is really a journey not just for me but for everyone. I have a hull with nothing else, not even a propeller. I spent the last week researching propeller shaft size for a 44 foot boat. That is the stuff I can't demonstrate but is still needs to be done to make the boat move forward.
      I was only saying this today in the intro for the video for an episode in a couple of weeks that the one thing I want by doing what I am doing is for people to learn something and give it a go for themselves.
      Doing each episode takes about 12 hours of video and then 4 to 8 hours of editing for a 12 to 17 minute video. The other additional stuff to this is the setting up of cameras, unpacking the ute, planning the shot, the ten or twenty introduction shots you need to take because you keep forgetting something and then the 5 to 10 closing shots. That side of it is unseen and when people make comments on the video like you just have it makes the work seem worthwhile.
      Sorry for the lengthy reply but I was thinking tonight on the way home from work, how much I appreciate everyone's comments and their support.
      I am so glad you are building this boat with us.

      Thanks Kevin, no rust is a happy chappy here. I have been weighing the steel up as I go an it has been just over a ton now. I weighed a bag of rust the other night and it was 240kg. Crazy!

    Unfortunately Paul in these situations when its our own projects its always seems to be more than what we originally thought when we try to calculate the amount of time needed for a project. That's what has been my experience with projects of this nature. LOL A lot of times for instance when you have to cut out massive amounts of rust and prepping it for fitment it can take quite a bit of time, sometimes takes longer than actually fitting things up and welding it together in the first place. That is if you just needed to start from scratch. You know what I mean. LOL Well Paul one good thing to note is that most of the fabrication is almost done with, you've made some great progress so far. cheers bud.

    • @TheadventuresofSherylandPaul
      @TheadventuresofSherylandPaul  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Fon, If only the fabrication was nearly done. I haven't even scratched the surface with it yet lol. In the next video (or the one after) I explain how I am going to tackle the welding. I am only a few weeks away from having the hull repaired and then the major work begins. The good thing is though that, that is much easier. It will be fabricated on a table then lifted into position and welded out. There are some pretty exciting video's coming up in the next 12 - 18 months. Rear deck off, wheel house off and then rebuild it the way we want. There is all sorts of things to do in between such as anchor, chain, windlass. In the cabin there will be a roof repair and some plumbing to do. In the engine room there is engine, generator and wing engine. then up the rear it is rudder fuel and water tanks. pretty crazy when you think about the work that is yet to come. I will be retiring from fulltime work part the way through the project so it will increase the time spent on the boat. I want to spend some more time with my dad and my kids and the boat is a great way to do that.
      Loved your reply put some spark in my step as always.

    now its a boilermakers camera, just jam a bit bit of welding wire in where that missing screw goes, should be ok.

      Um! nope it snapped off completely now and is dangling like a stallion on a happy day. I edited some video this morning and I could see the spatter on the lens also. I know what you mean but lol. I have used mig wire for a belt when I forgot it a few times.
