Hey everyone this is Mika. I want to say I’m sorry about the ferry boat tragedy in Korea. I didn’t realize or understand everything just by seeing the Spring Day video. After we watched it I began heavily researching the tragedy. My heart breaks for the families and friends of all those who died that dreadful day. My mind is perplexed that more wasn’t done to save them. I am sincerely sorry for all of the loss. Senseless loss. I’m at a loss for more to say. Much love - Mika 💜

It's impossible for us foreigners to understand it all without heavy research. But I think it's another positive quality of this MV. Since it doesn't depict the tragedy directly, it gives the feeling of comforting, not just a heavy reminder. I mean, some videos are hard to watch again because they bring too much of heartbreaking emotions, but this one isn't like that. And thanks to that it also doesn't restrict listeners from relating to it if they miss someone else, not related to that tragedy. I mean, Suga's verse is about living people, so the song is relatable in many situations.
My mind is also perplexed about not trying harder to save the passengers. There's an interview of the mother of one of the victims, maybe you can find it on TH-cam if you would be interested, it has subtitles. Her words at the end are very important for our future. We can only remember and try to do better for our society in the future...

Yes Mika, it is such a tragic story, my heart breaks as well. If i remember correctly, i believe the captain & crew misrepresented the situation at first, making govt officials believe the situation was under control even when it clearly wasn't. The captain was clearly of questionable character, telling the students to remain where they were when he himself did the opposite. However the longer the situation went on it became obvious that help was needed and for the life of me i cannot comprehend not doing more to save those children...even refusing help when it was offered. And then to prohibit recovery of the victims made it even worse. I cannot imagine being in the shoes of a parent especially. I know it's just theory but i firmly believe the video was a tribute to the victims & their families, especially to never forget them. Even if you don't react, i really hope you watch them perform this song live, the choreography is so heartfelt and beautiful...i recommend the comeback stage💜

As a Korean, I and most Korean whoever watch this MV will definitely believe the 'Sewol theory'. Coz the time of clock in a laundry room is the same time the ferry started to sink rapidly and Yellow ribbon means Ferry Tragedy here in Korea.
And Rm said he made the song for missing friends and COMFORT many people as well.
When BTS released this song they donated to the family. One of the student's dad said in twitter that thanks to BTS for coming the tragedy place silently at late night and also thanks for making this song bcoz his daughter was BTS fan so she would lilke it in the heaven.
BTS MVs hav lots of meaning, so after reacting plz~ check~ the lyrics and explained clip by youtuber as well. Then, you will understand why ARMYs love their music so~~ much.
Thank for reacting this song~ :)

RM wrote this song alone while walking in the park thinking about this tragedy and missing loved ones. This song is from 2017. It has been on the Korean charts since its release....132 weeks and going. This is a very beloved Korean song. You should watch a live performance. The choreography is lovely. Thank you for your sensitivity and taking the time to learn about the mv. It's a very special song for all ARMY. Fir BTS to even sing about this could have been a very sensitive thing at the time but BTS created a beautiful, truthful tribute. Like Yoongi said...they wanted to create a culture where if you miss someone dont be afraid to say it.

The laundry scene to me, besides the tag “Dont forget” has another meaning - when I look at it the clothes are inside water, being tossed and turned upside down. What the clothes represents...Thats what happens when a ship/ boat capsizes right? It’s very symbolic to me. My heart always goes out to the victims of Sewol tragedy. This queen of a song has never left the chart for the last 3 years. It shows how much it is loved.

    • @rachael02126
      @rachael02126 5 ปีที่แล้ว +82

also the way the camera pans from the laudromat to looking out at Jin, almost looks like someone looking out through the porthole of a ship. Which hits especially hard knowing that Jin was supposed to represent the victims that died. His clothes are being washed (like you said, with what the clothes represent) and he's looking through the porthole at the tragedy that happened, but also his friends growing up. *not gonna lie, this gave me goosebumps. BTS continue to prove what amazing artist's they are, both through their music, and the littlest details*

One of the many reasons, the biggest one, why I'm a fan of them. Not about their looks, or just about how great they dance and sing. It's about their lyrics, and what they put on their songs, what they want to tell people. My first song of them was Dope, I watch the mvs with caption, and I was like whoa I never thought song like this could have meaningful lyrics. I thought it was just another catchy upbeat song to dance, with no meaningful lyrics. I decide to stan them after that, and start hearing all the songs, read their lyrics, and it was mindblowing. Not regretting stanning them at all.

BTS never confirmed or denied if it was about the Tragedy, because of the government being able to "get rid of them" at the time.. but the choreography definitely confirms it cuz the opening scene is literally a boat shape they form and the song wouldn't still chart after 3 years if it didn't console all the families who lost someone

  • @iamnumber8454

Spring day is one of my favourite song of bts. It's also the longest charting song on melon. Never dropped the chart since its release. Although they never mentioned that it's really about the sewol tragedy, many believed that it is. BTS and bighit were close mouthed about this because it's A very sensitive topic and may jeopardise their company and safety. But rm says it is dedicated to someone who misses a loved one. It's better to keep it that way.
Also I cried so hard when I watched the documentary video of the tragedy. Those poor kids waited for their death. I also believe that those who knew the whole truth were silenced by the government even the diver who "committed suicide". May they rest in peace 🙏

Big Hit and BTS have not said that Spring Day MV is about the Sewol Ferry tragedy, but too much relates re the Explanation vid. The gov't still has power (and uses that power) to forbid songs (or MVs) from being played on TV or radio. We think that Big Hit made the MV obscure enough to get past that control. Big Hit and the individual members of BTS each made donations to the families of the ferry victims secretly, but months later, someone leaked the info.

It's one of the hardest songs for me to listen to because it makes me think of my mom that I lost when I was in my early 20s. Even before I read the lyrics, I could hear the feeling in the song. We have friends living in korea that i got to visit a while back. While i was there, there was a memorial place set up to reminisce those who lost their lives in this. I did visit that and different museums, so i know a little bit more about the circumstances now. The former president park, who handled the goverment back then, got deposed from her office in 2017 because of curruption trials. (as far as i know her father ruled korea in a opressing and dictatorial way for almost 20 years in the 1960s and 70s). Also i believe they now have it regulated by law that the presidency of koreas presidents may not exceed one mandate, out of fear of goverment development similar to the one during President park. The current President Moon is known for approaching things differently and aims toward a society with fairer treatment. BTS actually met him and the first lady before (i believe they also got a signed watch from him). And they even where awarded order of cultural merit by him last year. He takes great pride in them.
(I'm not a native so I'm sorry for mistakes, i hope i made sense though. This is all just what i know from my friends living in korea, museums etc. So if please correct me if i got something wrong. I just wanted to point out that the korean government underwent a lot of change. And that change is nowadays hopefully in positive way.) Thank you for your reaction and your own research. 💜

I honestly learned loads of new references from the song the lyrics etc.
My heart goes out to the Sewol Ferry victims and I hope the victims family can finally find out what happened the cause of it. It must be awful to know that your child has gone and you dont know what happened because of the government so I hope they get their justice.
One of the reasons why I love BTS, they are never afraid to Express them selves and say what is on their mind.

As a Korean, I still can't forget what happened in my country when I was around 11, and I will never forget...

Tragedy is a commonality we all share, regardless of race, culture, nationality, skin color, or gender identity. No one goes through life without having experienced its pain. This song is beautifully morose, but I appreciate the wistful, yet hopeful, uplift at the end. It makes me feel some kind of way, as it makes me think of my own sorrows, but it does make me feel better, knowing sadness can't last forever. I hope it uplifts everyone regardless of their tragedies, as it does for me.

The Omelas story - for more context - was written by the fabulous Ursula K. Le Guin, and in the story, there is a perfect city/country where there is no disease, everyone lives long happy lives, there is no war, everything is perfect. But the reason it's perfect is because there is one child locked up, alone in the dark, suffering in a small room with no windows. When citizens of Omelas hit 18, they are taken to the small room and learn the truth of why their city and lives are so wonderful. Then, they can either choose to stay in the city or walk away. Most stay, thinking the suffering of one is better than the suffering of many. A few leave, unable to be happy knowing that someone is suffering. And most interestingly enough, no one thinks to set free the child and completely do away with the horrid system. This story is used in literature and ethics classes at universities, and is always good for a fun debate, lol. Bts references the short story here in Spring Day, and again in Fake Love (where we see Jungkook dirty and locked away in dark spaces.

Here in the US, that tragedy got very anecdotal coverage. I do remember thinking, "How dare that captain set those kids up to die. A captain is supposed to go down with his vessel." Learning through this video and song, and it's explanation, gave me so much more insight. My heart hurts for the people of South Korea who lost their dear loved ones in this cruel, senseless way. They deserve better. So much better. Rest in power, to all those who lost their lives that day.

Okay so FYI , every BTS MV is not just ordinary video , its always has a message, they put hint, symbol and theory that army should found out, Blood sweat tears from the book Damian Herman Hesse, Spring Day from who walk from omelas, and the latest album persona from the book Map Of the soul by karl jung. We have a story line and it related to every other mv since 2015 I need U mv till fake love and love yourself era , and then bighit release a webtoon based on the puzzled of theory at every mv . So their mv is not just a movie video it has a deep meaning.

Can you guys please react to BTS “Born Singer” Not sure who’d bring along for this ride but that’s totes up to you. Basically the boys turn J. Cole’s “Born Sinner” into their own song. Each rapper tells the story of who they were pre-debut versus their lives then (2015). Please remember that they were mocked a lot. They came from a small no name company whose ceo wrote ballads not Hiphop so many people didn’t think they’d make it. They were often cut from music shows:never getting to take the stage or taken out of the broadcast completely. Keyboard warriors or Internet Gangstas would constantly troll and say things like “BTS is NOT Hiphop” or “BTS will never make it.” Do you remember listening to cypher 4? There’s a line RM says “Oh...Face not an idol....sorry bae” ..so along with the tweets he got before he also got one sayin that he was too ugly to be an idol. They were accused of plagiarism and treated so unfairly as was ARMY. They were publicly made fun of for wearing make up. Someone even equated them to be girls. There was a lot of bullying involved.... Please remember all this as you watch the video.
So the lyrics are at the bottom of the screen and I know that sometimes it is difficult to read and watch a video at the same time however the subs are very important and the video is very simple...but what makes it one of the best performances that I have ever seen is the formation of the boys (super important), the, sincerity, the overwhelming emotion that each one showed, & the gestures,. it was as if they were confessing to one another or as if they were sharing their fears and then something amazing happened, they shared them with us, with Army....and I apologize if this comes out all types of messy and incoherent, I am blubbering right now like a baby because of that moment . It was as if they knew that they could trust us they knew that we would love them no matter what. It’s one of those performances where you can tell that each boy truly believed every word they uttered AND the words of their brothers. And as fans we believed in them and helped them sing-🥺

  • @heyitsmejp
    @heyitsmejp 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Such a sad song with all the meaning behind it. Since we know what the song is based on... the way I took the lyrics... just say it’s a loved one that passed (personally I’ve had 6 family members who passed within 3yrs including my dad, which is too much mentally for me)...it’s like you’re saying to them (in prayers/gravesite) that you’ll see them again in the future on that spring day (day when I’m meant to pass) in heaven...so just “wait for me a little longer until we meet again and be together again.”
I hope I made sense. I’m literally crying writing this. Plus every time I hear this song. It gets to me. Love BTS for meaningful lyrics💜

When I was young, someone told me that shoes on poles/electricity wires was a sign of drug dealing. So for years, I had viewed it negatively. Having watched the Spring Day MV Explained video some time ago, I was shocked and sad that it is more commonly a memorial. I felt, still feel, upset and guilty knowing for all those times I looked with disdain at those hanging shoes while someone else was looking on with bittersweetness of the memory of their loved one. At least, now I know.

It's just a theory (I believe it). But even if it holds other meaning to some, the general BELIEF that it remembers the Sewol Ferry Tragedy is important. Some songs become an OST to events (individually or societally). More people learn of the facts and scopes of the tragedy as they are introduced to Spring Day. As awareness spreads, those who were lost are remembered. As they should be. Never Forget! Those who were trusted with authority, responsibility, and safety of others, most particularly the safety of innocent children, BETRAYED THAT TRUST and their DUTY to protect Innocents!! It doesn't matter that this happened half the world away from me, in a different country. Never EVER Forget!!🎗️

I chanced upon a documentary video on said tragedy. It was really horrible. The students were told to stay in their rooms even when water was already starting to seep into the ship because it was beginning to tilt. In a video recorded through a student's phone, the students were at ease and some were even joking around (saying that it would be a very memorable field trip), one even said "We're not going to die, are we?". The captain was also filmed while getting off the ship with the help of rescuers. While all these were happening, all the authorities were concerned about was what to report to the President in a way that they won't be blamed, etc. Watching that documentary was madenning!

Late to the party, but I also love this song for the interpretation that could be made of missing someone who has voluntarily left us, ie suicide. The line Suga says when he's on the clothes pile, "Of course I hate you, you left me! But it's okay, I'll erase (forget) you. Because to erase you hurts less than to blame you." As someone who has felt that festering guilt-ridden hatred towards someone who has committed suicide for leaving and had to heal from it, that line always gives me literal chills.

This song, before i even knew what it's meaning was, has always made me cry. I remember hearing it when it first came out and just the feeling of sadness it made me feel. i would hear the opening chords and my eyes would start to sting, sometimes by the first chorus i would lose it but if i was brave i would make it through to a certain part of the song and then that would get me every time. The final bridge sung by Tae "you know it all you're my best friend" He hits a note in the next line of lyrics that sends a physical, almost a pulse or shock, into my body that breaks me, every single time. I sometimes have to skip this song if i am in a deep slump as it will make me cry so hard, yet sometimes i listen to it specifically so i can just cry it out.
Once i knew the meaning behind it and i was shown many examples by K-Army that this was the actual meaning behind spring day, I had such a larger appreciation for BTS and for what they stand for, who they are as people and how they can change lives and help heal people. They received backlash for making this song from officials and government and for supporting the survivors and their families of this tragedy, but as usual, they saw injustice, they saw the youth being wasted and they stood up and said NO. They fight for us, they care for us. They make me proud.

Also, I saw in a other explanation video that Spring Day also represents how older generations disregard the concerns of the younger ones, especially global warming. Global warming is a catastrophe that it's just being left to the generations to come. And older ppl keep thinking since it won't affect them in a few years, they don't have to take action.
