@@manmadehuman yeah it’s definitely not cheap. However, getting a new car stereo installed in a newer vehicle is a lot more tedious than it ever has been been. Unfortunately, if you want to maintain a lot of factory integration, you need to purchase lot more than just the head unit and in a lot of cases it’s wise to get it installed by a professional. Once you add all that up, it ends up costing more than this unit. but I also understand that some vehicles just are not worth putting something like this in it
I do as well. Growing up, I would never have guessed something so simple could completely change the way I experience my car. The hour I spent installing was worth every second.
So cool! I have an auris Toyota 12 was able to use car play etc. Will have to change soon … I’ve noticed a lot of cars might say they have Bluetooth but functionally etc etc but CarPlay etc is so poor. This has to be a feature when your deciding between cars to upgrade too!
I'm about to get one of those 100 dollar Android auto screens with front and rear dash cam. This dude said plug and play and started dismantling his car 😂
Fortunately late vehicles of Citroen C1 came with a head unit that supports android auto/carplay. It's plug and play. So i just had to buy the most recent head unit. And everything worked. But this equipment is a great finding indeed!
I’ll be trying this. May you be blessed with low insurance premiums and fuel efficient vehicles for your family and all of your present and future subscribers. This is exactly what I was looking for.
How is this not a scam??? $700-$800 for apple carplay? I realize it’s super simple and convenient but I’m pretty sure a whole new system would be astronomically cheaper. Plus they’re making you pay extra for wireless at checkout? Maybe explain the price forst
Man my car does have mirror link only and radio + Bluetooth and wifi that's all which device should i get to run android auto on my car without replacing my car's display it's a beautiful 8 inch display + it contains car's systems can't replace it
I know! It’s crazy isn’t it? Believe it or not they didn’t offer it as an option in that vehicle in that year. If I’m not mistaken, 2021 was the first year they offered it.
I went to buy for my 2019 pathfinder and there’s a bunch of “upgrade” things like wireless CarPlay? Do they lock down wireless CarPlay unless you pay for that?!
They do have different versions of it. Depending on which version you want costs more or less. I just went with the upgraded wireless. But I do wish they just made one and didn’t give you any options. I don’t know anyone anymore that wants wired CarPlay or android auto.
Hi @toid, where does the black nifty city box go? In the video you showed the last step was plugging in a wire to a black box with Nifty City labeled on it...where does that get installed? Apologies for my novice question
No worries at all. It just goes anywhere you can fit it. It comes with some double sided Velcro. And I just put mine on the driver side plastic behind all the radio equipment you can never see it and it fit perfectly. But your vehicle might be different. You just wanna hide it somewhere back there where you won’t see it
Sucks they don't have one for a 2016 Trax. I haaaaaaate my radio and replacing it with a Carplay unit that I already have will still cost an arm and a leg for everything I would need to not lose factory stuff.
That’s a good question. That depends on the last time you started your vehicle. If I remember correctly, nifty city says it’ll maintain that low power mode for about five minutes. So after five minutes, you will have to press the back button again. I haven’t really found this to be a problem. But definitely something to take note of.
You will want to check the link in the description. You can select your model of car as well as the year and it will tell you if it has one that will work with it.
I’m not sure what you mean as far as it’s not as simple as I make out. It’s pretty easy to install. Much easier than a new car stereo. As far as if you don’t have touchscreen then you would navigate it just like you navigate your current screen. So that has a knob or arrows or whatever that’s how you would navigate it. Of course, most of the basic commands can be given with your voice.
It drains your car battery. I hate it. It also only works through the certain audio input. So if you’re driving and listening to the radio you have to switch over to the designated audio input to use CarPlay.
I don’t use the radio anymore, so I didn’t even think of that. But if you really want to listen to radio with car play the best way would be to use an app like Audacy, TuneIn Radio or iHeart Radio. As far as battery draining, I haven’t personally experienced that. Sorry you didn’t like it. It’s still been my favorite upgrade for any of my vehicles. Hopefully you find something that works for you.

Just get a maestro rr2 and you can keep all the factory stuff and use a much better sounding stereo. I just installed a kenwood excelon reference series and it's awesome.
That’s a great unit. I actually have one in my Lincoln. One thing to keep in mind, though with the maestro is obviously you would get rid of your factory look if that matters and it does not do all the factory integration. It can do some things like steering wheel controls. But depending on your vehicle make and model, it doesn’t always allow you to keep your USB ports and I don’t think it would allow me to keep my 360 camera in this instance either. But, depending on what you value, it might be the right system for some people. So thank you so much for bringing it up.
@@Toid yeah I was doing a ton of research on this for my new grand cherokee. I thought about getting an android head unit like the ones from the company in your video. But this is my first build in a nice car (at least nice by my standards) and I wanted to go for sound quality. The kenwood I bought has two usb ports and 4 camera in. Idk if it does the 360 or not. The only down side is the screen is a little small. I had an android head unit with a 10" screen in my corolla so maybe that's why it seems small. I have great imaging and detail now. It took me forever to install it, the speakers, subwoofer, deadening and amp "correctly". It's was well worth the extra time to get it to look good and not like the installs I did in high school, before you could get all the info on how to from the internet.
Where did you see it freeze in the video? I use this daily and haven’t had any issues with it freezing. But I am genuinely interested in where you think you saw it freeze in the video.
Maybe. However, this is designed for those who do not want to lose Factory integration. With this, everything works just like it did from the factory. With newer cars, updating the head unit to a new one will almost always lose some factory integration. And if you want to try to keep some, you will need to purchase secondary adapters, face plates, etc. With some vehicles, it actually ends up being more expensive to replace the radio (most of it is adapters). And you still lose some factory integration. Now a lot of newer cars, the radio is integrated with other systems, such as the climate control. For example, the Pathfinder, they don't even recommend you replacing the radio at all. So in the end it really comes down to what you need. I definitely wouldn't put this in an older car though. But one that I really care about factory integration or one that is hard to replace, this is a great option.
Looks interesting, but appears to be screen mirroring and very limited vehicles. I can’t even do the vehicle I showed. But there’s a huge difference between screen mirroring and what this does. I personally wouldn’t put a screen mirror in my vehicle. In fact, I’ve turned down quite a few car companies that I’ve asked me to review a screen mirror.
@@Toid I think you missed something…you have to weed down through the vehicle you choose. Yes there’s the less expensive screen mirroring option. But keep searching and look for the CarPlay option. For example. I searched a Jaguar. XJL. 2014. Smartphone Mirroring (as you thought). Then the final 2 choices…. “Mirroring” $360, or CarPlay, which also includes Mirroring, $600. (And u get the wireless CarPlay free).
@@SOBaseball It might have some for some cars, but navigating the site is a bear. It doesn't appear to have anything for the car I used. But even if it did, the site, the layout, the information, all of it is so vague and outdated, I wouldn't chance it. Not all of these types of units are the same. And I have yet to see one that is implemented as well as Nifty City.
@@Toid No worries. I get it. I’m not arguing. Lots of companies out there set up cheap websites intended for dealers only. Yeah this isn’t great. There are many other, better known, companies that do the same.
This seems super cool but kinda scammy not only is they charging me $600 for my car but also a additional $100 to get wireless car play like come on man seems kinda steep replacing the radio will be cheaper and not that much harder
People are here complaining about the price. Use your damn phone or a dashboard shit quality unit then, you peasants. Some of us want an integrated, smooth experience. A lot of people has bought good secondhand cars that has everything we want except for things like apple carplay and a reverse camera. We can get the conveniences of a more modern car for a smidgen of the cost with this stuff. Over here, I just bought a pioneer unit, a cover/cable kit for my car to fit the 2-din unit and a reverse camera from pioneer. The kit is 210 euro or so, the reverse camera is 100 euro at the cheapest place (normally 200), the pioneer system is 400 euro at the cheapest place, but it’s a new model, you could get a cheaper or more expensive one depending on requirements. So, just the kit and a good head unit cost me around 600 euro, 700 with the camera. All this is quality stuff. It’s not cheap, but if this is the only thing that kreps you from buying a slightly older car, it means that by buying an older car that has everything else you need but cost 3000-10000 less than one fitted with this from the start, you save a shitton of money and the new apple carplay system is likely a good bit better than the one installed in older model cars. I got my car for 7000 euro. It’s a 2012 that was fitted with everything working great and relatively low mileage.
But it had crappy speakers, bad choice of headlight bulbs, crappy head unit without even bluetooth nor even aux, just an ancient usb cable that doesn’t even work with my phone. They chose to cheap out on the things that weren’t strictly necessary but didn’t cheap out on more ”useful” features, it was used as a company car after all. Now I get it upgraded to be a perfect car for me, by upgrading these different parts, and it only cost me around 1000 euro for all upgrades, which is less than I haggled it to. They also happened to claim it included bluetooth but it didn’t, since I bought from a company peddling used cars, I will get compensated enough to cover at least the kit and a part of the head unit. By the way, there are a lot of cheap alternatives on things like amazon. They’re not that reliable but is still better than nothing and probably 1/5 of the price. I was looking at those initially but decided to pick something reliable that won’t randomly drop connection and doesn’t lack a lot of useful features like auto dimming and that is also unlikely to break in the car’s lifetime. Let’s also look at it another way. If you sell your car, having this installed will increase the selling price by a fair amount. You could also keep the old unit and re-install it when you want to sell the car and sell the unit and kit secondhand. It’s funny to me that people nowadays wear watches worth 600-800 euro and have phones worth 2000 euro or more that they regularly upgrade every 2-4 years max but a much nicer experience in the car isn’t even worth 500-800 euro. Choose wisely on what to cheap out on. I like to enjoy my time in the car as much as possible with nice music, nice audio books, easy navigation, easy reverse parking, good audio (since stock tends to be weak at powering speakers, depending on model of course, a nice head unit can improve this by providing more watt and allowing for better speakers) and voice commands. The only thing I’m missing now is a dash cam. I realize it’s pretty important, but I’ve spent a ton of cash on the car and upgrades and various equipment for it like magnet phone holders, cables, 12v cigarette charges, jump pack, battery charger and even more and can’t justify spending more on a dashcam with how I’ve never needed it while driving for 11 years. I haven’t been driving extremely much but my parents who do also haven’t needed one for dozens of years. If I get one, I need a decent, reliable one or it’s wasted money, so maybe 300 euro. Maybe I’ll look if I can find one secondhand. Sooner or later a good deal will show up that’s more reasonably priced for what is just some peace of mind. If an accident happens, I have the best insurance for a reason.
These things are way overpriced. I just looked up the one for a Ford escape and it's $650......... I bet the cost to make it is under $5. They're absolutely trying to rape people with their profit margins on these. I could spend $500 instead on an amazing head unit that has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a built-in amp and a hundred times the features of a stock radio. Start making these things for $100 or less and then people will buy them. The company is going to sink if they continue to try and charge this much for these little units. I wouldn't pay $650 installed for one of these.
With todays cars you have to have a trim removal kit. I'm more like bigger is better. The small kit should be ok if you're just working around the head unit. They also make stereo removal keys. Some cars you need these keys to remove the stereo. Do your homework.
Honestly, it’s a really great price when you compare it to an aftermarket stereo. An aftermarket stereo averages $500 then an additional $200 for the equipment to save steering wheel controls. Plus a lot of vehicles now I need a trim package. That can range anywhere from 100 to up to $500. Then you need to add install, which is probably going to be at least an additional $500. Especially since the installation that you do nowadays is completely different than what it was 10 years ago. It’s not uncommon for an aftermarket stereo to cost on the lower end $1000 installed and up to $2500. Even after spending all that money, you won’t be able to keep all factor integration. $700 for something you can install yourself in an hour and keep all factory integration is pretty amazing.
Do you think that’s expensive? I actually think that’s pretty cheap. Add in the fact that you don’t have to pay for any labor or custom work while being able to maintain your factory integration, it’s a really good deal. Some install kits now for vehicles are near $500 in themselves. That’s mainly due to the fact that they provide new plastic trim pieces and custom harnesses. And that’s not even counting the radio yet. And you are absolutely guaranteed to lose some of the factory integration. To be $700 is a really good price especially for everything that this does.
Bought one from nifty city it was defective had to send back at my cost never received a replacement. This is the worst company to deal with. I'm out a lot of money

Man wtf can just get a factory oem with it for that price!!!
Nav tool is $600 and free wireless CarPlay upgrade
“Mirroring” $360,
or CarPlay, which also includes Mirroring, $600.
No way am I messing with the original car screen. That’s too much bro
200 more dollars i can get a pioneer touch stero with install
It's really cool but not for $700
These things are way overpriced.
$ 700 for honda.. yea they can keep that lol
660$ is to much just order new screen
Apple Car Be Like
Very expensive
It IS very cool, but you need to sell a kidney to buy one. Very pricey. I just oft for the magnetic car mound and use my actual phone.
plug and play? that's just rediculous.
"Ridiculous"
Stupid
hey uhhh, an apple car play does not cost $700.
Yeah it’s damn near 2K for my car! 😂😂😂 no thanks
*Promosm* ✌️
$699? No thanks
It’s 700 dollars.. no thanks lol
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA $750 for my suv--right
Do you think that’s expensive?
That is awful. Thank you for telling me that. I had no idea
