On my most recent trip to Germany in June 2024, I used an Airalo eSIM card for the first time. If you’re looking to stay connected while traveling internationally without any high roaming fees, I highly recommend checking out Airalo’s eSIM cards which connect you to a local cellular network. They are easy to install, use and on top of that are very affordable. I went with the 2 GB, 15 days option for only $6.50. That was enough for me during my 2 ½ week trip. Upon my return to the US, I connected with Airalo and became an Affiliate Partner. Use link airalo.pxf.io/ttwc and new customers get 15% off with code NEWTOAIRALO15. Existing customers can enter code AIRALOESIM10 for 10% off. Let me know if you have any questions! 😊
Thanks so much for your nice words Linda!! I’m glad you enjoyed the tour and feel that Passau is well portrayed in this video. Such a lovely city. Hoping to be back at some point this year to visit my sister, who lives there as well 😊.
I was there and went to see all of this and it is stunning in person! I even stood at the fortress where the guards oversaw the fortress. I can’t wait to go back to Germany . I hope to tour inside the Neuschwanstein Castle which isn’t very far. I did see it from the outer area but it was closed. We walked up the hill. Thank you for this video. St Stephan Cathedral in Passau is breathtaking. It’s my most sweetest of memories filming my grandson looking through the Bible and straightening the books in the pews with Jesus on the Cross in the background. We lit a candle for my dad in this Cathedral. Again thank you. This is like taking the walk we took all over again.
Thanks so much for your nice comments! I really appreciate it and I love that this tour took you back in time reminiscing your memories made there - especially with your grandson and lighting a candle for your dad. Very special moments for you I'm sure. Yeah, I need to go back to Neuschwanstein as well. Last time I went I was a little boy and can't remember much of it. I tried to fit it into my last trip to Bavaria, but just couldn't make it work. It's certainly on the list for next time.
@@triptipswithchris -I am saving the videos I took of my grandson in the cathedral so he will surely remember what he did on his visit. He was only 5 years old.
You did a great job. I am from Passau. You pronounce your Tirolean hat as: tie row lee an - Your explanations were good. You spoke slowly and clearly. The Oberhaus Museum is a favorite of mine. It has many small rooms with interesting views. Each exhibit has explanations in three languages, German, English, and Czech. Whenever I visited, I saw Dutch visitors in the museum. To me they are the best tourists. They can be seen in smaller towns. - As children we were happy when the tourist season ended in Passau.. Then the city belonged to us again.
Thanks so much for your kind words Herta and Gilbert! Much appreciated. I really enjoyed filming and putting this video together of Passau. And thanks for the additional info!! I’ll have to go inside the museum next time I’m there. I’ll probably be back in Passau next year. Such a lovely city! 😊
Hi Elke. That’s nice that you lived there as a child. Hopefully this video brought back some memories. It’s such a beautiful city. I’m lucky that I can visit frequently since my sister lives there. 😊
Chris, I've looked at lots of TH-cam videos about Passau. So far, yours is the best I've seen. We will be in Passau on a river cruise in August, thanks for all the good tips!
Wow! What a lovely comment! I’m glad you enjoyed the tour. Thanks so much for your kind words, Barbara! You just made my day 😊. I know you’ll enjoy Passau a lot. It’s a lovely city. Have fun on your river cruise!! And if any questions come up before your trip, don’t hesitate to reach out.
A very well made video and clear explanation. I've been several times in Passau while visiting my family in Bodenwohr, kreis Schwandorf. Cheers mate, from Australia.
Thanks so much John! Glad you enjoyed the video. I also have family down there. Always a nice area to visit. Greetings back to Australia from California. 😊
@@triptipswithchris thank you for checking in. We enjoyed all the towns/cities we visited. However, Passau was one of my favourites along with Budapest and Vienna. All our guides were very interesting to listen to. The Viking Embla was well presented, our French balcony cabin was small but very comfortable. The only thing I can criticise is the food and service in the dining room. Breakfast, soups and deserts were good but main meals left a lot to be desired regarding food quality and taste. A lot of people loved the food but a few people including us didn’t. Very pleased we did the cruise though but definitely wouldn’t repeat it. All the best from Sydney Australia 🇦🇺
@@scottlewisparsons9551 that’s great! Glad to hear you had a nice trip and that you really enjoyed Passau. I love that city as well. Yeah Budapest is a lovely city too. I haven’t made it to Vienna yet, but I’ve heard many great things about that city and I am planning to visit next time I’m in Europe. Greetings back to Australia from California 😊
I am travelling to Munich and then on to Passau in early August to start a boat/bike tour on the Danube. I need to get to Passau from Munich. I am hoping a bus or train will take me to Passau, would you recommend I purchase tickets in advance, from here in Canada OR is it safe to purchase tickets the day I am travelling (Sat. August 10, 2024), thank you.
Hi Michele! That sounds like a fun trip! I haven’t taken the train between Munich and Passau, but my sister has and she says she always gets the ticket on the day she’s traveling. Hope this helps.
One more thing, Chris. I watched a long video “Walking in Passau, Germany”.No description. The photographer walks all over Passau for an hour. All you hear is the feet on the cobblestones. It’s all the streets I have walked on for nine years in Passau, attending high school, going there by train from a little town on the Danube. - I recommend you eat at the Oberhaus restaurant. Also take an hour boat ride; the view from the boat in the Danube back to Passau is lovely. The ANA Waterways stop in Passau. They also stop in a smaller medieval town 30 km upriver from Passau, called Vilshofen. If you don’t know Regensburg, that’s larger and also beautiful. There all the house façades are medieval, but the backs of the houses are modern and expensive to rent. Also video available”Walking in Regensburg, Germany”. - Your video is excellent, those other two are different and great for me because I can walk along here in my house in California. - All the houses have historic coats of paints in these historic cities. Nowadays out in the countryside one may encounter real bright colors, a real shock for my eyes.
Thank you for those other video recommendations. I'll check them out. I did eat at the Oberhaus Restaurant. So good and amazing views of course. Thanks for the recommendation about the boat ride. I'll have to do that next time as well. I've been to Regensburg but that was a looong time ago. I was still a young kid 🙂.
Hi Chris, Can you relay any information about the hotel in Passau at the Dreiflusseck please? It's apparently been a fortress at some point. 🤔 Dankeschön! Lynelle 📯
Hi Lynelle, I was not familiar with that hotel. Just looked it up. I'm assuming you are referring to the Hotel Schloss Ort. There's not a whole lot of information on their website in regards to the history. It just states that they have a 800 year history and it is indeed inside a former castle. They have a total of 18 rooms incl. 7 suites and breakfast buffet is served in a historic vaulted dining hall or you can eat on their patio with views of the Inn river. I will probably be in Passau later in the year and will see if I can get a tour of the hotel and find out more about it. It's certainly in a great location. Thanks for pointing this out to me. Definitely interesting and hopefully I can share some more information later this year.
Thank you Chris! Your research is spot on so far. As I did stay in that hotel in Passau for a couple of night. (On my way to listen to the Gebirgsmusikkorps, who were to play a concert in that region). It would be amazing to find out more The hotel receptionist knew the structure was originally a castle, but couldn't give any further information... Looking forward to hearing more from you 😊 Alles gute 🍀☀️

Hi Rugveda! I’m honestly not too familiar with the nightlife there, but with it being a University city with many students, I’m sure there is a good bar scene and places students go out to. In general that is the case in German student cities. Hope this helps and all the best for your studies abroad. That’s exciting 😊
