Hey guys, great to see other channels using the V-Strom off-road! The title is a little deceptive, but not intentionally I'm sure. 👍 To be a true "lift" you'll want to raise the front the same amount as the rear. To do this would require lengthening your front forks.
    So what is actually happening?
You are indeed performing a lift at the rear of the bike. In the front however, you are gaining the "lift" by setting proper suspension sag (ideally 1/3rd total suspension travel with rider and gear). The reason this is so effective is because of how damn cheap and soft that front suspension is from factory. Care must be taken however, as improperly setting suspension sag can result in modified and even dangerous unbalancing of the entire bike.
End result: More ground clearance and a better suspension feel overall. In addition you'll have slightly modified riding characteristics (faster turn in, slightly twitchy, higher center of gravity).
I did something similar a number of years ago (before I understood suspensions) and had the exact same belief as you guys so no harm done. :)
I'm going to link a very short video below so that your viewers can see the side by side difference :)

Yeah I understand how it works and know it's not a true lift. I only added a small amount more of preload and it really didn't affect the bikes handling. I pin a comment saying do this mod at your own risk. To some it might be worth it to others not so much. We mainly put these kinds of videos out to show our progress in how we mod our own stuff to ride them the way we do. I want to do more with the suspension but don't really want to spend that type of money on the old of a bike. The title was meant to be deceptive cause it sort of a lift and I think most people that watch our channel and the way we are we'll get it. Thanks for watching and commenting. We definitely appreciate it and the feedback.

I can't say I've done a ton of off road yet but I'd like to and I've always felt like I could have the bike a bit higher and still have my feet flat on the ground. Would you recommend this to the average rider getting into camping/ off road? If so, could you also point to the links you've used? @@Bok2022st it serves just as a spacer and given the fact that it's not something with great friction inside the tube & the fork oil temperature is not getting that high - it works. However, the main question is if this is just a lift of the suspension or increasing the suspension travel. In this case I believe that it's only the lift and the proper way to be done would be to extend the internal rod of the cartridge with cutting, welding, etc.

@@Bok2022st a friend of mine did exactly the same like you - swapped the internals from the 1000 and made metal spacers. He is really happy with the conversion and using the bike mostly with his wife, including off-road and long trips with luggage. I was thinking to go the same way but the 1000 for parts are not so often seen in my area. Another option is using after market cartridges from Italian brands like Andreani or Matris. However the main thing is that no matter which of the two ways I choose it’s not going to make the suspension longer, nor the ground clearance.
